Either Joe Manchin is an idiot or he’s trying to set up public relations before Democrats nuke the filibuster.

Biden and Dems need to brag about this for the next 20 months. Also, pass HR1 and John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

There'll be another reconciliation bill with that process starting probably in July. Probably on infrastructure. Joe Manchin was talking about a $3-$4 trillion package a month ago.

The problem with a child tax credit is you have to file taxes to get it. That means the most marginalized poor, those who operate in the cash-only informal economy to avoid paying taxes, get HOSED by this policy. It's garbage. It's racist. It's HORSECRAP.

Not that the stimulus checks would've been any different - you probably had to file an income tax return to get it - but it's still a bs approach that leaves out the poorest of the poor. I don't understand how dems can be so concerned about voters who don't have driver's licenses and then turn around and spit on those same kinds of marginalized people when drafting their stimulus policy.

I laughed. She's a badass. I want her on every committee. Wish the Dems had the balls to make exceptions to put the people willing and determined to do the work in all the places where they can do the most good.

So I got some news today that I'm a bothered about. I've had a sign up in front of my house
for a while. It calls out the GOP for not holding murderous seditionists accountable.
On the other side it has several BLM slogans ie No justice no peace, Say their names,
silence is complicity.

So the Pres of our HOA emailed me to ask him to call him which I did. He then
informed me we would be receiving a letter about being in violation of HOA covenants.
He didn't sound happy about having to do this. There are a few other houses in the
neighborhood that have signs and apparently someone complained. He didn't say
whether the complaint was for my sign or someone else's just that they decided
they had to send out letters to everyone who had a sign up.

I'm wondering how hard I should fight this.

The thing I love is that she doesn't strike me as an ideologue. I think she genuinely wants to
protect the interests of th broadest swarth of her constituents possible. She takes being a public servant
seriously and to heart.

I'll rep you pro bono. It's unlikely that it's a violation of the HOA covenants; more likely (still unlikely) that it's a violation of the bylaws. Even if they claim under the bylaws, the relevant portion is probably something along the lines of keeping your yard in an orderly and attractive manner. You can probably push this to the point of having the Association's attorney writing an uncomfortable and tortured letter defending a bullsh*t enforcement of the bylaws. If that attorney has any sort of spine, he'll advise the Association to drop it.

Actually, if the Pres of the HOA has any sort of spine, he'd ask the Association's attorney to write an opinion letter defending your sign, send it to the Trumper neighbors, and force the Trumper neighbors to go get represented themselves and incur legal costs to make an argument for removing your signs.

Edit: apparently certain neighborhoods do have covenants re: flying flags/banners but there's still a workaround if there's inconsistent enforcement

I mean how dare he have a dog. What blatant pandering.

Seriously, it's ridiculously comical what cons have brought themselves to.
Dr Seuss, Potato Head and now this? Maybe we should be relieved to no
longer have to clown them. THey're doing a great job of that on their own.

So 'cakes, are you an attorney?

They didn't enforce it until someone complained. But apparently there are things in the covenants or bylaws
which speak to the issue.

My personal opinion - the whole and only legitimate reason for restrictions is to protect property
values. The signs can't hurt anyone by reading them. If a reasonable argument could be
made that they hurt property values, I can see it, within reason. Like you could
prohibit vulgar or profane signs.

One neighbor, the one that inspired me, spread a sheet out on a pair of poles
with a spray painted message. I initially copied that but it suffered in the wind
and so I created something from a sign we agreed to keep in the yard for a month
after our driveway got repaved. The other thing is we have one of those signs
that says Hate has no home here. Is that political? I hope not but maybe these
days it is. We are definitely not the only ones with that sign in the neighborhood.

FWIW, I've lived in this same house since 1986, so around 35 years.

A friend who is an attorney (and a strong lib) sent me this
which seems to suggest they can censure me.

Curious what zonk and eventually the data will show about the effectiveness
of giving people money or cutting taxes. Based on comments above I’d guess
he thinks the Andrew Yang approach (UBI), well as a one time payment, it’s not
really UBI, but it’s money directly to the broadest possible swath of Americans.

The pubs, first argued for a smaller and more tax cut centered response to
the Great Recession, then didn’t vote for it, then demagogued when the
results fell short of what was hoped for, except the pubs weren’t really hoping
for that, but it was hyper bad faith the way the GOP acted in 2009. Now the
bad faith is gonna be claiming they were for it when the opposite is true.

And the data will show whether money to everyone or tax cuts which help
high earners more than average people works better as a stimulus.

Thank the Democratic Party. Thank Georgia for turning the Senate. This is why you vote blue up and down the ballot and turn up for elections.
