I hate the timing though. Be nice if the decision came out in October so Fox News doesn't have a chance to rebrainwash all their brainwashees

Glass half full: The terrorists have beheaded the hostage. No excuse not to stuff the SCOTUS now.

Well the midterms will be interesting now, to say the least. Most people don't pay attention to politics because it doesn't affect them. This issue affects everybody, and the lefties will hate this a LOT. Hate Biden all you want, at lease if you give him an overwhelming advantage in Congress (which thanks to McConnell basically means having a bare majority in the House and Senate) he can stuff the SCOTUS and fix this. He won't because he's an idiot, but if the outcry is loud enough we might be able to do it. And honestly this a great way to punish the Republicans for abandoning the cooperative equilibrium of bipartisanship. You want to see what partisan politics looks like? Chaos. A SCOTUS with 250 judges on it.

I’d settle for a 15 member court with an 18 year term.

The timing is interesting, perhaps Roberts was going to sit on it until after the mid-terms? Now, there is an opportunity to motivate disaffected moderates disgusted by the state of American politics.

You're assuming a *sane* process. I think a tit for tat strategy that ends up with 250 judges and absolute chaos because hyperpartisanship makes meaningful reform impossible is much more likely. And honestly a 250 judge SCOTUS might at least be democratically representative. Watch the GOP jump ahead and say "ok we're adding 50 judges"

Still waiting for our resident Democratic Party haters to chime in on how both parties and the same and Democrats are always the problem.

The decision was set to be announced in June so it would have been a midterm issue regardless. I’m wondering if whoever leaked it is hoping to mount a public pressure campaign.

The typical right wing ghouls on Twitter have been pretty muted. I thought they’d be taking a victory lap and gloating since this is a culmination of their theocratic agenda for decades. Instead they’re concerned with ….checks notes…. leaks

I was going to say. If anything the early leak helps the GOP.

This is an interesting thread behind why the leak would be from the GOP.

This early leak actually benefits Republican's as it is best to get "bad news" out as-early as possible, they also get to pivot to outrage over the leak itself, this has become their talking point.
EDIT: Didn't see the comment before me, yep it makes 100% sense that it was the Republicans that leaked this, now the Republican pols can blame the dems and deflect from the decision.

I think the real damage to the GOP will occur when the actual decision comes out in June and all the "only active if Roe ever gets overturned" laws take effect and all sorts of horrible examples start to get picked up by the media. Some beautiful white woman is definitely going to die because of this between June and November. The chances of it not happening are statistically miniscule. Just up to the Dems to do their jobs. For once in your life.

It seems all the right misinformation peddlers had their talking points ready before the leak even came out. I wouldn’t put it past them to coordinate something like this which just shows how corrupt and broken the Supreme Court is.

Mencken once observed, "Morality is doing what is right, no matter what you are told.
Religion is doing what you are told, no matter what is right."
