Well the midterms will be interesting now, to say the least. Most people don't pay attention to politics because it doesn't affect them. This issue affects everybody, and the lefties will hate this a LOT. Hate Biden all you want, at lease if you give him an overwhelming advantage in Congress (which thanks to McConnell basically means having a bare majority in the House and Senate) he can stuff the SCOTUS and fix this. He won't because he's an idiot, but if the outcry is loud enough we might be able to do it. And honestly this a great way to punish the Republicans for abandoning the cooperative equilibrium of bipartisanship. You want to see what partisan politics looks like? Chaos. A SCOTUS with 250 judges on it.

I’d settle for a 15 member court with an 18 year term.

The timing is interesting, perhaps Roberts was going to sit on it until after the mid-terms? Now, there is an opportunity to motivate disaffected moderates disgusted by the state of American politics.

The decision was set to be announced in June so it would have been a midterm issue regardless. I’m wondering if whoever leaked it is hoping to mount a public pressure campaign.

I was going to say. If anything the early leak helps the GOP.

This early leak actually benefits Republican's as it is best to get "bad news" out as-early as possible, they also get to pivot to outrage over the leak itself, this has become their talking point.
