Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
This is the longest of all longshots, but is there any way at all to see my own posts on this forum from years and years ago or have they all since been lost?
I'm currently looking to apply for a position where statistical analysis is somewhat relevant and I thought to add some of the weird and super basic stuff that I used to do and sometimes post here - as sort of a quirky humble beginnings part of the application.
I remember arguing with everyone in defense of Jarvis Hayes (looking at incredibly tiny sample sizes of on-court line-up success) I remember keeping track of franchise records and leaderboards during the seasons before basketball-reference started updating them during the seasons and I remember definitely researching and I believe also posting my findings on how missing or making the first in a pair of free throws affects the success of the 2nd one - and i believe my main test subject on that was Brendan Haywood.
If anyone has any clue if finding those is possible at all please let me know, and if not - well i don't think it hurt to try.
Edit: also, wow - just saw the date of when I joined - 10 years huh. Damn

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
Carson Palmer is the luckiest man in the world.
A couple of days ago he signed a 50 million dollar contract. 20 million guaranteed. Today he gets carted off the field with a knee injury.
I remember Carson Palmer made a statement when he refused to play for the Cincinnati Bengals. He said he had 80 million in the bank and that he didn't need to play football. The fact he had that much money saved staggered me. Two or three years later here he is making even more money, injured or not.

I watched some of the first season, liked it for a while, wondered where it was all going, stopped watching. If you make it farther, let me know. Maybe I gave up too soon.

I think tomorrow or Wednesday will be our last days of over 60 degree weather for the next several months.

Kinda like when you say "break a leg" for good luck. Maybe. I think his agent is luckier since he didn't actually break a leg.

Kenneth Faried will not win in Denver. That team is not too different from the Wizards a couple years ago. Few of the players have any experience winning. The team is a collection of young players.

Not until he's paired with a good defensive center. Playing Faried with McGee or Hickson is an unmitigated disaster. Mosgov isn't much better either. Maybe Nurkic will be that guy in time.

I saw Justin Hayward (of moody blues) at the Barns last week. Great show.

Faried is an interesting player but I agree with Dat, he needs to have just the right teammates
in order for him and his team to be successful. Obviously playing with TeamUSA satisfies that
requirement.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
I want to make sure I have this right:
Faried is really good, but isn't an all-time great. His teammates haven't been much good the past couple years. So, when his team "doesn't win," it's Faried's fault.
Did I summarize that correctly?

True or false - The Moody Blues and The Guess Who were the most underrated bands of the late 60's and early 70"s. And neither could have won a championship without Faried.

I agree totally on Faried.
I would add I think Javale McGee needs to play next to a defensive C. Guys like Dirk, Aldridge, and Pau Gasol primarily play PF. McGee doesn't have their high skill sets, but he is easily as athletic. If his role were limited to rebounding like a Dale Davis type, JaVale could be more effective. He clearly is not an effective defensive anchor. I think he is just a really tall guy who forever has been played at C. McGee next to Marc Gasol or Joakim Noah would work well IMO.

No. I just said he would not win in Denver.
Brian Shaw is a new coach. Denver fired George Karl. They have a new GM. They have a bunch of young guys. They are in the west. I don't see that team doing anything this season. Gallinari is coming off devastating injuries. I think the Nuggets won't be good for a long time. Much as I like McGee, right now his contract is a bad one.
They might be better in the future. My opinion right now is Faried won't win in Denver.
Edited to add: Why are Brian Shaw and the Nuggets So Bad? General Board topic thread is linked here. viewtopic.php?t=1353704
patrol345 wrote:Shaw isnt coaching to the teams strengths it looks like to me. He wants rim runs and post play but yet his best player is ty lawson who is best at driving to the rim (ie Rim runs and post play clogs the lane for lawson) . He wants the horns run with outside screens for open 3's and mid range shots yet he has faried who cant get offensive boards on long bricked mid range shots half as good as if they were attacking the paint. In fact most defenses are set up in the league to get the team to take mid range shots. You take your best players best skills away and this is what you have a team who walks the ball up dumps it in the post to mozgov and runs their offense from there or passes it around on the 3 point line for 20 seconds of the clock and jacks up a shot. The nuggets had a good draft but yet they traded Fournier for this exact same reason. He is a slasher/driver to the basket he had his worst season under shaw last year. He now looks good for Orlando this year, coincidence I think not. There was hope from January till the end of the season last year when shaw scraped this crap he wants ran, why he dont do it now I dont know but they are a joke to watch right now. The real question is how many young assets are we going to ship out to get "shaw guys" before the FO realizes Shaws system sucks.
