Do you really think the purpose of the rally is to boost his fragile ego? Is that the level of analysis you're gonna bring to the table? If that's what you believe, then I invite you and your side to continue to wallow in your ignorance. Your level of understanding of Trump's supporters virtually guarantees that Trump will win again in 2020.

Trump is holding a rally because he knows his supporters are stuck listening to non-stop hatred from a hostile media and it's important to keep their morale up. That was also the point of the press conference. Like Reagan, Trump is going over the heads of the media and communicating directly to the people.

Can't they just get their information from Trump's tweets or the state-run news organization, Breitbart?

Just wake me up when it's 2020.....

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

http://www.people-press.org/2017/02/16/in-first-month-views-of-trump-are-already-strongly-felt-deeply-polarized/

The latest national survey by Pew Research Center conducted Feb. 7-12 among 1,503 adults, finds that Trump’s overall job approval is much lower than those of prior presidents in their first weeks in office: 39% approve of his job performance, while 56% disapprove.

Or alternatively, Trump just had a 2-hour press conference and the media made no headway in demonizing him about the Flynn situation. Look! Squirrel!

I continue to be amazed at how you guys perceive Trump so differently than a Trump supporter like myself does. I loved the press conference. I thought it was magnificent. And so did virtually all of Trump's supporters. The only people that didn't like it are those that already hate Trump, and Trump isn't worried about impressing them.

Truly a president for ALL Americans.
Give me a break.

Trump talks about Obama being the most divisive president ever and as Nate says he has no care about the 50%+ that disapprove.

I havent listened to his latest speaking but the fact that he answers questions about anitsemitism with how many electorates he beat Hillary by does tell me that he has a shallow ego.

Trump isn't going to play that game. He's not going to get up there and explain why he's NOT an anti-Semite. This is EXACTLY why the people hate the press and this is EXACTLY why Trump's attacks on the press earn him support from most people. But I'm not going to convince you. Fortunately, I don't have to.

This is just one instance of him answering a question with the election results. He has a history of bringing up how big his election results are or the size of the crowds. Today he answered a question by saying he had the largest electoral win since Reagan (which isn't true).

I'm convinced that his supporters love what he says and that they dont believe the press. I see it on Facebook constantly. But yeah! i don't think you will convince me that he doesn't have a shallow ego.

Nate - serious questions. I won't be snarky if you respond :^)

Are you ok with Trump's attempts to delegitimize the press? It's not that he's saying they're just biased and unfair - he's saying they're fake and lying.

Wouldn't you like to have access to a multitude of open, free news organizations to cross-examine various news stories, so that you can be confident about basic facts?

Like a terrorist attack or a natural disaster or basic government policy happenings - wouldn't you want to learn of those things through channels that are independent from the government?

It seems like Trump wants people to only read Breitbart and his Twitter account. Is that something you agree with?

I am happy with Trump's attacks on the press because the press is ideologically biased. If we had a world with a handful of ideologically centrist press outlets, a handful of self-admitted left-wing outlets, and a handful of self-admitted right-wing outlets, then there would be no need to attack the press. But that's not the world we live in.

We live in a world where 95% of "journalists" vote Democrat and every mainstream media outlet except Fox is left wing but doesn't admit it. In that world, I think attacking the press is a good idea until either much of the left wing press goes bankrupt due to lack of viewers, or they shift to a more centrist position.

The 1st Amendment affords freedom of the press. It does not afford the press freedom from criticism.

Ok, but I don't think we are talking about the same thing here. Attacking the press for being biased or 'unfair' is a lot different than attacking the press for making up basic facts, which it appears Trump is doing.

I truly find it terrifying that Trump wants to delegitimize the press. Having state-run media as our only source of information is literally an Orwellian dystopia. You probably think that sounds hysterical, and I'm not saying that will happen, but isn't that what Trump wants to happen if he could make it so? Why does this not alarm you?

It doesn't bother me because Trump doesn't have the power to delegitimize the press any more than they deserve. The problem isn't Trump. The problem is that the press already is illegitimate.

If the press was honest and centrist, Trumps attack on them would seem like whining and it wouldn't be effective. But since the press is clearly dishonest and biased, his attacks have merit and are supported by half of Americans and perhaps more. (Trump's poll numbers are much better than the media's.)
