Re: Kyshawn George
So far I’m liking the Dawkins strategy of drafting outside of the blue chip prospect range which is draft youth, size, and skill and ignore poor or even abysmal athletic/mobility testing scores. It’s a weird feeling to have hope for our late firsts in the next two drafts

Re: Kyshawn George
Today’s NBA.com has an article redrafting the 2024 draft. Our guy Kyshawn is up from #24 to #18.
18. Orlando Magic: Kyshawn George
The aesthetics of Kyshawn George's game give him the runway to have a Mikal Bridges-esque arc. To be sure, they are different players. But George has more ball skills than credited and awesome positional range on defense.
Once he bangs in more of his threes—and he will—he'll actualize the portrait of the consummate glue guy.

I think he has more upside than Bilal

I see what you are trying to say, but I'd phrase it the opposite way.
I can buy the argument that Kyshawn might pan out to be more effective than Bilal because he has a good feel for the game, a stouter frame, and he may have a more reliable, quicker-release 3-point shot. Those are bread-and-butter skills that typically bode well for a good, long career. But I don't see Kyshawn ever being better than a 3rd or 4th best starter on a good team because he lacks any real "juice" to his game. He can't go get a bucket against a set defense with a good defender guarding him, and I don't really think he has that potential. He looks like he could be a Cameron Johnson type of player - a guy that everyone wants, but not really an All-Star or anything.
I'd say Bilal still unquestionably has the higher "upside". He is extremely athletic, still very young, incredibly long, and he hasn't yet grown into his frame. It's still possible that he will develop into a #2 or #3 option on offense, while also being among the best defensive wings in the game - a Jaylen Brown tier player. That's an All-Star.

It'll be interesting to watch this play out. & above all it's great to have the level of expectation you lay out for two guys -- especially given that it's possible to have pretty high expectations for our other two super-young players.
It'd be a shock -- a pleasant one! -- if all 4 of these guys reach their upsides. Ditto Vukcevic of course. It's what to hope for.

Hey PIF, will Flagg be the best player in this draft?
You have famously pointed out how often the #1#1
does not turn out to be the best player, unless I'm
misremembering. I'd have to agree with you and am
surprised how often it does turn not to be the guy
everyone thought it would be. Is Ace another Durant?
Is VJ or Tre the next superstar G (or Harper)?

A lot of what we call 'thought' is just mental activity

Yes... uncertainty is part of the play. Both a positive & a negative of course. In every single draft.
Flagg looks like an exceptional talent, that's for sure. How's he going to wind up...? Wish I knew for sure!

Have y’all been watching this kid…the defense, the shot blocking, the passing, the 3pt shooting, the improving ability to get to the rim.

He's my favorite player among our 2024 rookie class guys. I really like the way he plays. When the 3-ball is falling, the guy is legitimately a real rotation player out there. He's additive - doing good things with hardly any bad things.

Re: Kyshawn George
His 3 point form is really good. Opponents are adapting and trying to run him off the line.
I like the way he went to the basket after a close out, against the Nets. Unfortunately he couldn’t finish. He needs some additional weapons, like a floater or pull up jumper.

Re: Kyshawn George
Funny thing is that it was Kyshawn’s long range shooting and playmaking that was hyped when the Zards drafted him. His D was considered suspect because of his lack of athleticism. Turns out that Kyshawn’s defense is his secret sauce.

Love it.
And the fight in him. You wouldn’t have expected it — but he stands tall, he gets feisty.
And the court sense. The smarts.

A lesson to all of us. Kyshawn was an old Freshman (20), with poor production & advanced stats, low usage, and poor combine measurements. He was a red flag in many ways, but Dawkins & Co really did their scouting on this kid and saw the natural ability, IQ, and projection.

The best part is that Kyshawn now has one of the biggest DAWGS in the NBA with Smart to help mentor him. Him, Draymond, and maybe a few others are the best you could hope for to learn from with Kyshawn.

Every trade with the Mavericks lately has appeared to work out for the Wizards. Dinwiddie/Bertans and for KP and Gafford for George. I wonder if the Mavericks have made any other noteworthy trades lately.

It's why I now believe the 2 FRPs for Kuzma rumors. Only Nico would be such a moron.
