The evil genius of MAGA politicians, is that they serve a constituency that can be relied upon to vote for them, even when they are being kicked in the teeth by “their” own Representatives, they embrace harmful policies, to be in a club that hates the same people they do.

you have people on medicaid and food stamps complaining about welfare queens and federal employees who were just laid off who still preface their statements still with "yes, there is obviously government waste and we need to get rid of that but..."

it's brainwashing. no other way to really put it.

I'm just forced to wonder, if Putin's wildest dreams to completely annihilate the U.S. government were to come true, how would it look different from what is happening now?

I know we've all been brainwashed by "Russia Russia Russia" to dismiss that, which is why I think that is 100% the most likely explanation for what is going on. Maybe the nuance is that Putin is just one of many billionaires who hate the United States and wish for its utter collapse so that they can descend like vultures and pick apart the remains. Clearly Musk has no relation to Putin whatsoever, just a fellow traveler in hatred of democracy and the limits the rule of law puts on his ability to exercise power.

The reliable MAGA voters are reliable. Then, there's the millions of voters that switched in the last election. They're are the voters that have to suffer. Hopefully they suffer enough to turn the House D in 2026.
I think it has to be personal, like increasing inflation. They don't care about federal workers losing their jobs, or mass deportations. They are probably are happy about it.

There's a subreddit dedicated to MAGA voters who have lost their job due to DOGE etc. At least some of them are regretful already. A little schadenfreude feels pretty good.

I hope a lot of stories come out about the suffering this causes to people that Trump voters currently think are despicable sub human deep state gremlins. Maybe some knowledge of the actual truth will deprogram a few brainwashees on the margin.

It's one of those things where it doesn't affect someone personally until it does. So for the millions that voted for him, why take that chance?

This truly boggles the mind, can you imagine if a Dem President lobbied another country to free the likes of Andrew Tate.

Who is that Brian Tyler Cohen guy? I cant find anything to support that they've "been freed" from their charges. Not even the article he linked says that. Their request to have their charges dropped was rejected.

I think Cohen just misspoke (Or was incorrect)

They were freed from custody.

But with that being said, scuttlebutt is that they were "freed under pressure"....so he might very well end up correct.

Raising Caine isn't qualified and needed an exemption from the POTUS. Other generals who are qualified have been passed over.

It's interesting. I stopped participating in this thread about a year ago. I was a frequent participant for 10+ years before that. I realized the thread didn't want to hear an opposing opinion, especially from me. They had already driven out every other independent thinker that used to post here. Zonk and Pancakes threw words at me like you're a piece of sh#t and a liar. That's when I vacated the thread. If one can't have a civil conversation with one who holds an opposing viewpoint then what's the purpose of the thread? It's literally an echo chamber for "progressives." I was surprised that Monte was okay with that level of discourse (disappointing for me Monte because I had a great deal of respect for you before that.). Anyway, please don't pretend that this thread is anything other than another ridiculous episode of MSNBC. I sincerely hope that one day soon the collective here will cordially invite, consider, and honestly exchange opinions and ideas with those of whom they disagree.

I am pretty much in the middle on most things. I don't not, nor do I plan to start to participate in this thread. I don't come here for political shananagans. I come here for fun, talk sports, music, jokes and an escape. I have Twitter to bitch about politics. This isn't the place for the level of not fun and aggressive over seriousness that these thread turns into. I have long been a proponent of doing away the political threads and leaving that discourse for a larger platform, not here, where we come to for an escape and to have fun talking about sports with our friends. Civil convention is important, but that's not usually what happens in these and I'd rather just stop to talking about Alex Sar, recommending music video and talking about 7th round nefl draft picks.

Meh. I consistently welcome opposing opinions and learn a great deal from this thread -- yourself, da1andonly, a few others --and even when I disagree it forces me to do the research and come back with receipts. I agree there are pointless insults flung about, but don't beat up monte about it since the tone was established in this thread by pine early on that we allow for a bit more rough and tumble conversation here than in other threads. We are going to disagree, sometimes heatedly, about things that actually matter. Basketball pretty much doesn't, unless you're in the sports industry. I personally find it somewhat absurd that people who support a party and particularly a president, who regularly breaks the norms of polite discourse, get their actual feelings hurt when they bump into an off color word. Still, I think it doesn't help the debate, just shuts it off. I'd rather fight it out. But then I'm the guy who started the insults and trolling thread.

As for the value of the thread. Personally I appreciate the insiders look at the local industry. There are plenty of ways to distract ourselves with the 'bread and circus' of sports etc, but few places where you can hear from people who are a couple degrees of separation away from decision makers. I have dozens of other interests, writing, art, etc, that draw my time, especially since I seem to need less sleep than most people, but come back here because of the brainy discourse, whether on sports or policy. Seems dumb to read the thread and then say you don't think you should have read it. Shrug.

So. Seems similarly silly to pop in and ask for people to cordially invite you back, then drop an insult on your way out the door. Doesn't really add anything to the conversation. If you have information or an opinion, bring it here. Just don't expect people to always be measured or reasonable in the back and forth. People are pissed. An unelected un vetted trillionaire with red flag conflicts of interests has appointed himself a super cabinet member, without oversight check or balance and is dismantling the concept of governance. If anybody wants to step in here to defend that with facts and links and citations, I'd love to hear it. But don't flinch and be a pantswetter if someone loudly disagrees with you. Just come back with better facts. Or even, maybe, listen and be convinced. Or hell, admit when your party got it wrong. And be willing to do something to fix it.
