So at an NBA player pole at the Athletic, players found the Capital One Arena bottom 3 in terms of having “the worst fans”, only behind Charlotte and Detroit…utterly depressing.. :nonono:

Turd must be very proud of this achievement. This is 100% on him.

The Wizards under Leonsis have arguably been worse than the Washington Football Team under Dan Snyder.

Utterly shambolic what has happened to this franchise under his stewardship.

I'm not sure- Snyder inherited a team that was 10-6 and a field goal away from making the conference finals in his first year of ownership.

Under Snyder, the Redcommanders made it to the 2nd round twice times since 1999 when he bought the team and haven't made it the past the 2nd rounder. Since Leonsis has taken over the Wizards have made it 3 times to the 2nd round in 2010, with a franchise that had only made it one other time the 2nd round since 1980.

Time to refloat this and say f*** you Turd. You are fully responsible for this embarrassing Beal trade and making the Wizards (again) the laughingstock of the league…what a clown…

I hope Winger and Dawkins right the ship, but at the same time I don't want Ted to get any credit.

BTW, DA was on Kevin Sheehan's radio show today and said the new practice facility sucks (DA was being kind and used the term "OK"). The new Suns owner is building a state-of-the-art facility just for the Suns. The Wiz are in small-cramped in spaces and are forced to share with the Mystics & GoGo. Just another example of why Turd is the worst.

Terd has been played like a drum for years. Beal isn't the first or worst or maybe not even top five. Old man Abe Polin got in it - I remember it being Terd that brought Jordan into the ownership group with Polin, then convinced him to suit up for a couple of years. After MJ wanted to come back into ownership, Abe said 'thank you for your service, now gtfo' and laughed all the way to the bank.

After that, the next worst was probably Grundle who spent a decade spinning his wheels here, pocketing one of the highest GM salaries in the league. Grundle sold this man on Andray Baltche and Jordan Crawford being part of the 'new big 3.' He also took all those damn scouting trips to Europe and came back with Jan Vesely and Juan Carlos Navarro, lol.

Also I can't forget the headhunting company he hired after finally firing Grundle. They charged this many who knows how much only to recommend hiring empty suit Sashi Brown who did nothing here and Grundle's deputy, all while Terd made all these grand public announcements about his great process.

How Terd became a billionaire is kind of beyond me. Maybe he's got some other hidden talent somewhere. As head of the Wiz, he hasn't shown much.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

As a certain poster on here has said many times, Terd was born on second, tumbled into a tree, and thought he could fly to home base. Or something.

Tom Boswell with a rare column. It's more about the Commanders and O's finally
getting new owners. But he had some choice words for Leonsis.

Washington fans aren’t out of the woods yet. For years I considered Ted Leonsis a harmless “C” of an owner. Unfortunately, Leonsis has devolved into a sports-arena-as-casino, District-dumping “D,” who’s working on his “F” résumé. Money-loving double-talking blowhards are so common in sports ownership that D.C.-area fans should probably expect one Leonsis on the scene. At least he’s just distasteful, not despicable.

On his pod today Bill Simmons put Leonsis in his “Worst NBA owners of the last 30 years” Pyramid:

Tier 1: Donald Sterling

Tier 2: Robert Sarver, George Shinn

Tier 3: Glen Taylor, MJ, Howard Schultz

Tier 4: Prokhorov, LEONSIS, Tom Gores, James Dolan

Deserved?

Terd’s screwing up this franchise goes further back, too. He helped Jordan take over the Wiz as GM/coach/player in the early 00s and then run it into the ground. (Terd/MJ are still friends and investment partners.)

My friend pointed out to me the other day that the 2015 team would have made it to the conference finals if not for John Wall's wrist injury. A play or two from making it into the conference finals in 2017 against the Celtics (Beal didn't play well in the beginning of the series, Wall got worse as the series went on). Overall, the Wizards did need to hit with more of their draft picks to go further (ie Kelly Oubre wasn't in the playoff rotation for the 2017 team) although I'm skeptical they would have won a finals anyways unless the drafted someone better than Wall or Beal.

little interview with terd, nothing really important here, but figured youd all like to read

https://www.washingtonian.com/2024/06/10/ted-leonsis-on-what-the-arena-deal-collapse-felt-like-and-whats-next/

Okay, how about the Wizards?
With the Wizards, we ended up always close but no cigar. I brought in a new president, new general manager, and gave them the mandate to rebuild the team. They have permission to trade everybody and get young, build an organization and culture that is strategic and isn’t living in the moment. How do we in two years, three years, five years become a great team that’s generational?

Being optimistic here, the race to the worst owner in DC is now (almost) the race to be the best.

Ted has done everything right in the last year. Hired a great staff and got out of the way. Tried to get the best arena deal possible for the team.

The Commanders' ownership is so much better it's not even worth listing the improvements.

But... the Lerners are in my mind right now one of the worst ownership groups in any sport in America. The Nationals payroll, excluding Corbin and Strasburg, who were signed long ago, is right down there with Oakland! Sportrac says their total payroll "allocations" is $108 million. Strasburg and Corbin are $48. That leaves $60 million for everyone else. That figure is below every other team in the major leagues. Even Oakland is $62 million. Pittsburg is next lowest, and they are $85 million. Only one other team is below $100 million.

And the Nats have also scrimped with things like coaching in the farm system. They have drafted so poorly in recent years that they must hire scouts part time from youth leagues.

I can understand the Lerners not being able to spend because of their real estate problems. So- they should sell. Instead, they're holding out for a better price.

The Nats are living on the reputation they earned years ago. The last few years, they've been awful.

But hey, three out of four teams being well managed is great!

The Nats deciding to tank almost immediately after chipping was the right move I think. The problem has been that it's been years now and we really don't appear to have acquired franchise level talent.

I'm hesitant to move on from the guy who drafted Harper, Soto, Turner, brought in Scherzer, etc.

I don't know enough about baseball to know if the past few drafts have just been poor or whatever. Sometimes you tank during an era of meh drafts.

James Wood & Dylan Crews to name a few..

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.
