Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
I am not surprised Ohio State won big.
I feel bad for Marcus Mariota. He cried as he left the field, but the loss wasn't his fault. His receivers dropped two balls early. The Ducks defense couldn't stop OSU on the ground and they gave up big plays. Cardale Jones looks like an NFL QB to me.

Mariota will bust in the NFL. When his receivers aren't faster then everyone else he looks fairly average.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

I see him flopping as well - mainly because he has no experience as a pocket passer. But if he gets in an offense that plays hurry-up all the time (Philadelphia), he could make it.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
Mariota looks like a project. He might be good but it will take a few years.
Cardale Jones blew my mind. His ability to read defenses and have pin point accuracy where quite impressive for such limited experience. He has 1st round tools but obviously needs more experience. However with no guarantee of getting another college start (J.T. Barrett), he may need to capitalize on his success right now. I think he might be a worthwhile gamble in the 4th or 5th round to team that's willing to take 2-3 years to develop him.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
Mariota didn't have two of his top receiving threats. That's huge. Not just from a talent perspective but due to the chemistry he had developed and their ability to step up. There were multiple drops that cost Oregon, not Mariota. Yeah, he didn't play a picture perfect game but he was at the bottom of the blame list. I still expect him to work out.
Cardale Jones was amazing. The only thing that concerns me is apparently he hates school. I'm admittedly making an assumption, but if you hate school you usually hate studying regardless of what it is. If he isn't willing to study and learn how to be a QB, I don't see how he succeeds at the next level. Like I said I'm making an assumption here. He might hate chemistry class but love the film room. Who knows other than the people around him.

Is there some RealGM filter that automatically replaces the second word in mentally (Please Use More Appropriate Word), even though that term is still used within the legal, medical, and educational fields in a non-derogatory way (though clearly it is on the way out), but yet allows morons to write tard repeatedly? I think I encountered a filter once that would not allow a four-letter word for sexual assault, even when writing about such an assault. I guess it's just an odds thing. Hope they don't start filtering ball.

I watched him play on local cable as a HS QB. Marcus is physically gifted. I think he we have a long career, possibly much of it as a backup QB.
I don't agree with Colin Cowherd much, and cannot usually stand him TBH, but today I listened a while and agreed with him on this: Mariota will be much more effective as a post-snap improvising QB. His strength is his ability to make quick decisions. Mariota isn't the most accurate thrower or the most elusive runner, but he's a darned good decision maker. He's intelligent and very decisive.
Yes, Ruzious, he needs a hurry-up offense or a situation similar to what Russell Wilson has, where there's a dynamic runner and a sound defense. Mariota can be a good game manager as long as he doesn't have to make a lot of throws from the pocket. He's not like Payton Manning or Tom Brady.
He's a lot like RG3 and somewhat like Russell Wilson.
Bye bye Beal.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
The advantage that Russell Wilson has over the other running QBs that have had troubles is he's comfortable in the pocket and moves well in it and out of it. Mariota doesn't have experience in it. Winston does and excells in it - which is the major reason I think he's a far superior prospect.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
If you are not a fan of Steph Curry and Klay Matthews, you're not a fan of NBA basketball.
They bring it every night -- even if their shots aren't falling, the effort is always there. They play on both sides of the floor. They play an attractive brand of ball.
I'm a real Wizards fan -- I purposefully had season tix when our players were guys like Chris Whitney and Laron Profit. But I'm not so much of a homer to believe that Wall/Beal are anywhere near Curry/Thompson. We've just seen Jarrett "freaking" Jack do anything he wants on the court past John Wall. Steph Curry would have at least stayed in front of Jack while defending him.

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
I've been reading up on the whole Trent Richardson mess, in one article it says "the colts are hesitant to part with him considering what they gave up for him." I hate this line of thinking. Same reason we still have RG3, The Wiz were stuck with this line of thinking for a long time as well. If something does not work out, admit it and move on. there is no use crying over spilled milk, clean it up before it sours on the ground and poor yourself some fresh milk. Any thoughts on this?

Technically, that's an official random question and doesn't belong in this thread. Mods!

Re: Official Random Thoughts Thread - Part 3
That story about Dion Waiters feeling happy in OKC because the Thunder let him touch the ball is hilariously delusional. Waiters has a LOWER usage rate so far in OKC than he did in CLE. He shoots less often, he assists less often, he's committed fewer turnovers. He's touching the ball LESS often.

Those yups on the metro the other day would never make it in the front row of a KISS concert.
They wouldn't last 5 minutes much less the entire show.
