I don't know what's funnier. The fact that Cole's asking price is higher than a ham sandwich or the fact that we're pursuing him.

Look, I'm not saying the dream is dead, but KD is the type of guy you really need to scratch and claw to get. You have to do everything you can to get better, even if it means trading a "core piece". You can't just sit in a bad conference, take a first round L and hope the fact that your his home town is enough for him to make a life changing decision in your favor.

This offseason, they REPLACED Ariza with Pierce and Booker with Humphries. They're a little better this year than last, primarily because Wall has been more productive.
When 2016 comes, they'll be looking to replace at minimum two key players: Nenê and Pierce. Perhaps the Pierce replacement is already on the roster (Porter). Perhaps Durant is the replacement for Nenê -- sorta. Sign Durant, and they're basically capped out, which is probably fine because Wall-Beal-Porter-Durant-Gortat is a formidable group (at least on paper, assuming Gortat doesn't have a significant age-related drop-off).
So, Durant (or any free agent) would really be putting considerable faith in Grunfeld to assemble a championship-level roster. Maybe that happens, but I think a savvy agent whose client wanted to win a title might steer him elsewhere.

Why are we assuming KD will play the 4? Does that make sense? Would KD be happy about it?

KD isn't going to be swayed by playing with the 20th pick of the '15 draft.

We don't know that. That 20th pick will have had a full year of rookie seasoning, enough time to get a good handle on whether or not he is likely to be a key contributor in the future. It only took a year to realize that Steven Adams (#12), Kelly Olynyk (#13), Giannas Antetokounmpo (#15), Gorgui Dieng (#21) and Mason Plumlee (#22) all looked like promising future players. And that's just from the 2013 class. From the 2012 class, we knew within a year that John Henson (#14), Tyler Zeller (#17), Terrence Jones (#18), Jared Sullinger (#21), Draymond Green (#35), and Khris Middleton (#39) looked like promising future NBA contributors.
Who's to say we don't draft the next Giannas Antetokounmpo or Draymond Green with our pick? If we do, I'll bet Kevin Durant would consider it an incentive to join the team.
I'm not opposed to any trades that make us better, but they have to make us better in the long term. We can't trade any post 2016 assets (including cap room) for players that will only help us pre-2016. That's why I keep rejecting ideas like trading for Kanter or Jeff Green.

Kings fan here,
You guys can have Ramon Sessions for any expiring contract you've got. Give us your worst player. We don't care! Sessions just has 1 year left at $2 million on his deal.
How do you guys feel about Garrett Temple?

Not exactly a ringing endorsement. His PER this year is just 8.2, though it was 16.0 and 17.7 in the last 2 years respectively. And he's only 28. Maybe it's a coaching/system issue over there.
He might be a good idea if he can be obtained at no expense. I'd rather not give up Temple though. Drew Gooden or Dejuan Blair probably makes more sense. Better yet, we send you Andre Miller, but it's hard to make the salary work out.
