Under a $94 million and rising cap - $10 million/year is back-up big money

Depends what you mean by serviceable. He's regressed each of the last three seasons. It's an ok deal - not great.

$10M a year for Jefferson is pretty solid IMO, and will look even better next year (assuming he doesn't fall off a cliff). Also probably means Mahinmi is going to get Mozgov/Noah money. Does Indy still keep him?

Indiana is quietly having itself a really really solid offseason.

They got worse at head coach, worse at point guard, worse overall defensively, passed on resigning a good young wing in Solomon Hill, but have had a 'really really solid' offseason because they signed Al Jefferson, a player who has regressed for three consecutive seasons, for less than Mozgov money.

I think the AJ contract is completely fine, but you guys are blowing it way out of proportion. The Noah and Mozgov deals are garbage, but that doesn't mean Big Al signing for less money is immediately GREAT. H'es a non rim protecting big at the twilight of his career. He signed for backup C money and should be an adequate backup for the next year or two.

Indiana needs to keep Mahinmi. They have no rim protection right now if they're starting Big Al.

Indiana got worse defensively this summer.

6ers sign Jerryd Bayless 27 mil over 3 years. Bayless belongs in the NBA, but he's a journeyman. His value in 2014 dollars would be about one third of that.

9 to 10 million seems to be the "new MLE" this season. If there is a team that needs to spend money on competent NBA players it is the Sixers.

It really seems like the best move here is to sit out the entire free agency bonanza and just wait until the dust settles. If necessary, sign guys from the D-League scrap heap and/or waivers for vet minimum contracts. The bottom line is that Jerryd Bayless is not worth $8M a year more than the best player in the D-League.

Myles Turner is their starting C now and Thaddeus Young is their starting PF.

I would agree with the notion that Jefferson is a downgrade to Mahinmi and they lost some rim protection, but the Pacers success will depend on the development of Turner who may be a stud in time.

Bucks got Mirza Teletovic for 3/$30. Was really hoping the Wizards would miss on Anderson and settle for Teletovic instead.

He is a lot like Anderson. And when Milwaukee plays him, Parker, and Monroe together... that's gotta be among the worst defensive front courts since George Mikan (reference for PIF) played. Bucks really need to trade Parker moreso than Monroe, imo.

Gotta wonder what the Bucks are doing this offseason - picking a 7 foot 23 year old project with the 10th pick, cutting both of last year's high 2nd round picks, and putting together a truly awful defensive front court. Of course, their GM just got an extension.

A decent contract considering what it could have been, but still a downgrade for them since this means Horford is gone. I guess they're willing to do that to keep Bazemore?
