The Lakers offseason is a shambles.

That isnt the right way to look at it. I dont see any big overpays there.

Utah has been tanking since Kessler came into the league. They probably sat him games that he could have played. He played in 5 games last season. So it's weird, for a Utah team that has stunk for a minute would be so willing to give him up for 2 unprotected picks.

BTW, I think the trend moving forward would be for teams asking for picks past 2029 since no one knows if the new lottery rules will hold.

True, what’s the plan though?

I don't love getting both Sexton and Grimes to go along with Reaves. They should have signed one of those guys and then retained Marcus Smart or gone after some other defensive-minded guard like Jordan Goodwin.

There's enough ball handling and shot creation with Reaves, Luka and one of those guys.

Luka and Reaves are a pretty strong 1/2 options. After that it is just a matter of getting good role plaers around them. they dont need another star.

Utah got two unprotected first-round picks and two FRP pick swaps. That is quite the haul, IMO for a player that they thought they were going to have to overpay. (opinion).

They now have 10 FRPs in the next 7 years with multiple swaps. They are doing fine.

I think ainge certainly feels good about this deal. It looks like Pelinka was locked in on Kessler and Ainge took advantage of that.

Regarding the other guys the Lakers signed the question to me is whether those we the right guys to pursue. In a vacuum the contracts dont look bad but for a team that needs 3 and D guys i have to question the fit.

Agreed. It was really good for Utah. It is a TBD for LA - it could work out fine for them.

I would be shocked if the Lakers make the playoffs. They are a turnstile on defense at every position except the 5, so Kessler will have to overcompensate.

I dunno. I think they are about as good defensively this year as last year. Yeah, they lost Smart, but Kessler is a pretty big upgrade over Ayton. And there is enough shooting between the guards and Luka that they can get away with playing a lot of Vanderbilt as a defensive stopper.

I think they're about as good as they were last year except for the loss of Lebron who really stepped up when Luka and Reaves were hurt. Without Lebron, they will be much more vulnerable to injuries.

It's funny, but I don't think Mamu would start. They'll probably start either Vanderbilt or Grimes in his place.

He already signed with Phoenix.

Or perhaps this is a joke and I missed the intent.

Perhaps this was the plan all along as someone mentioned. I still would have snagged him and done the same. 2.3M a year.
