Hey dckingsfan. While we might disagree on topics i like the insights you bring but any candidate running on sustainability is going to be a snoozer. The reality is the American public doesn’t give a **** about sustainability because the intricacies of deficits and spending isn’t simple enough for your average voter to understand. And this is case where both sides don’t care about the deficit, although like you mentioned under Obama spending started to shrink. Republicans used it as a political cudgel under Obama yet we’re happy to spend in record levels under Trump. Democrats aren’t fully acknowledging how they’re going to pay for a these programs they’re proposing. However we know that Republicans will happily run up the deficit for wars and to give tax breaks to the wealthy while Democrats will run it up for things like education, worker retraining, infrastructure and healthcare. At least with Democrats their spending will positively benefit the economy and society. But truth be told running on sustainability won’t excite your voting base.

Thanks for the considered response. And there were two times in recent history where we made progress on the issue. When Clinton was POTUS and you had a R house. And again when Obama was POTUS and you had an R house. The rest of the time as been a cluster.

And it doesn't matter if the Ds have better intensions. A financial meltdown is a financial meltdown. Runaway inflation makes SS moot. You can't pay for healthcare. Scarcity of food and shelter ensue.

Or it is a slow fall off the cliff and you have to start cutting programs. At a federal level, think of all programs except SS, Medicade and Medicare being shuttered. At a local level, think of runaway costs for higher ed and 50 to 1 classrooms for K12. Think of reducing the police force by 2/3rds.

That Ryan hasn't spoken out about the stupidity of Trumps Fiscal (lack of) plan is mind boggling. Same way with the Ds that don't speak out against the Sanders moonshots - truly mind boggling.

And the reason that voters don't care? Because politicians aren't bringing it up. Both sides are playing a negative sum game. And both sides blame the other with - "yeah, but look at the other guy."

So what you're saying is that people should be voting for Dem Presidents

On one hand you have Democrats who's have ideas that will increase receipts to the government (federal jobs guarantee, raising minimum wage, tuition relief) or reduce costs(Medicare for all).
Then you have republicans who offer absolutely **** all or new ideas.

Well, Democratic President and Republican congress. Minimum wage proposal, free higher ed, free Medicare for all as they propose it (today) would accelerate us over the cliff even faster than Trump.

Don't mix up ideas with actually governing.

Yeah, the liberal purity test Bernie Bros are an embarrassment. They're usually middle class white dudes who were self-described libertarians until the 2016 election. The thing about theses guys is they're very comfortable burning down the entire government in the name of liberal purity, but have no care or consideration for how low-income folks actually need government services. Lots of them preferred Trump to Hillary in the name of shocking the system or whatever bullsh*t they were spinning, but it comes at the expense of everyone living on the margins.

And you have the Candace Owens of the world telling black people that the Democratic party is the real racist party. What a joke.

I'm of the belief that anyone is better than Pelosi, but Clyburn is just an old, black, male version of Pelosi. What the hell is the point other than his skin color being different?

What is so bad about Pelosi.....other than her age?

She was one of the more effective Speakers in recent memory.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

If by effective, you mean corrupt, then yea she's definitely effective. She takes PAC and corporate money and doles it out to her buddies so that they'll vote for her. She's worth over $100 million dollars, and she's been in her position for over 20 years. She's the definition of a corrupt, self-serving politician.

Advice to the Trump administration: Dont EVER let Giuliani speak to the media again. Seriously........

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

If I were a dem strategist, I'd push to give Giulianni as much airtime as possible. He is the worst spokesperson of an administration, ever. It's between him and Katrina Pierson.

Establishment fake news on both sides are getting more and more desperate to destroy AOC. No wonder no one trusts news in America...it's all controlled by corporations.

Sarah Palin? Not hardly.

But I do think she's shown some inexperience.

From Wiki: Allegations of insider trading

In November 2011, 60 Minutes alleged that Pelosi and several other members of Congress had used information they gleaned from closed sessions to make money on the stock market. The program cited Pelosi's purchases of Visa stock while a bill that would limit credit card fees was in the House. Pelosi denied the allegations and called the report "a right-wing smear."When the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act (or STOCK Act) was introduced the next year, Pelosi voted for the bill and lauded its passing. Of Representatives Louise Slaughter and Tim Walz, who drafted the bill, Pelosi said they "shined a light on a gaping hole in our ethics laws and helped close it once and for all.

Legislatively - meh. The actual bills that went out under her tenure were extremely sloppy including by not limited to the ACA, Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act, Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, etc.

Rudy should at least bring 2 shovels with him to each interview; one to dig himself out of the holes he digs and one to scoop up the stuff he spews.

After that many quotes, it's not a coincidence - it's a strategy.

And it shows contempt for both the truth and for the intelligence of the American people.

You would hope an administration could be trusted not to embarrass the country the way we are when Giuliani speaks on behalf of the administration.

If I were running a news outlet, I would make him submit his statements in writing and then have them read with fact-checking. I would probably put Kelly Anne Conway on a similar treatment. I would also probably cover the effects of Trump policies - e.g. impact of the Trump middle-America tax hike - e.g. tariffs vs. the cover-ups. Russia is important, but it isn't the only thing.

538 has an article on their 2018 House election projections.
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-big-picture-in-the-race-for-the-house/?ex_cid=2018-forecast

Theme number 4 mentions that all 4 regions of the country are pretty much evenly in play - West, South, Midwest and Northeast. One of the areas in contention in the NE are moderate NY/NJ Republican incumbent districts. It would be a bit ironic if the former Democrat from NY causes his party to lose the House due to him dragging down Representatives from NY/NJ.

Another interesting thing is the VA-10 district almost exactly matches the national chances of a flip by the Democrats.
