Wall have been playing some really impressive ball. And in case anyone missed it, he was backing down players several times in the TOR game.

As for the vine. I can think of lots of players that would have got that called a foul.. and 1

Wall game is really rounding out his game nicely. Now he has to find a reliable 3 ball. He doesn't have to shoot it a lot, but it would be great if he can get it up in the .350 range. That would help. He turned 24 in Sept. He is about to reach his prime in the next 2 years.

Should be interesting to see how high he can go before he peaks. So far, he just keeps getting better.

IOne thing people keep forgetting is that Wall heated up from 3 post all star game last year. He shot low last year too if I can remember and then for the first 2 months after the All Star break he was like the #1 3pt shooter in the whole league. People forget that. They also forget that Wall was like 20 & 9 on 45% shooting for like the last 2 mmonths of the season until the final 8 games or so. He was brilliant but people just remember the playoffs

It would be even more if Wall's ankles and achilles tendon weren't bothering him... I worry that he is going to exacerbate one of those injuries. I wish they could give him some rest - sigh.

"The difference in the Wizards’ defensive performance between Miller and starter John Wall is stark; Washington allows 108.6 points per 100 possessions with Miller on the floor and 97.7 points when Wall is on the court..."

Wall really needs some time to rest. The team should just sit him out a few until after all-star break. Wizards are losing anyway

The All-Star break is longer than normal now, apparently at the request of Lebron. I believe they have a full 9 days between games. Obviously Wall will be playing in the AS game but should get some good rest time.

I am sure his back must be sore by now having to carry this team night after night.

I have a feeling, Wall will play at his all-time best level after the all-star break. But EG really needs to make a trade to bolster the bench and maybe trade Nene for a younger piece. This team needs to get younger!

This morning, I was talking to my son about how the NBA is having trouble getting stars to do things like participate in the dunk contest because of the (sensible) focus on guys getting rest. When the ABA held the first pro dunk contest, they did it at halftime of their All-Star game. Using guys who were playing in the game. I mean, some of the participants barely had time to drink a beer and smoke a cigarette before the contest started.

Imagine Wall in a lineup that didn't feature 2 conventional bigs and good floor spacing. He'd be top 5 player IMO.

WALLSTAR IN ACTION

That dude going up for the alley up is 35 year old Rasual Butler. He has some some surprising leaps this year.

Wall warming up for the AS break. Really looking forward to him out there this year. He is ready to shine and I expect him to rub some elbows with future teammates.

If I recall correctly, Wizards has just turned the ball over again, but Wall stayed with the play and cleaned it up.

Does anyone know why he's out of the skills competition now?

My guess is fatigue/nagging ankle problem. I was glad to see that he withdrew.

I would have loved to see him compete in some of the events but I'd rather he rest up. We need him 100% the rest of the way to have a shot at 50 wins and a top 4 seed...

The skills competition is all downside and no upside brand-wise. It's a boring, the competitors don't take it seriously, and no one talks about it or pulls up YouTube clips of past competitions. The dunk contest, OTOH, can increase visibility for players who are already fairly popular, and Wall certainly qualifies.

I would've been excited for Wall to defend his "crown"; OTOH, he'd have been lined up vs. a bunch of rookies and role players of lesser star wattage. So, I'm fine with him prioritizing rest.

If it was me running All-Star weekend, and the goal was to attract audience and build the brands of stars, I'd implement what I think would be a fairly simple solution: I'd require every All-Star to participate in one of the weekend contests. There'd probably need to be an additional contest or two to accommodate all 24 guys. Maybe something needed for bigs too. Or, maybe populate a dunk contest, 3pt shooting, that shooting stars thing with a WNBA player and a yesteryear NBA player, skills, then add HORSE, and then have Knockout for everyone who's left out.

Or hell, how entertaining would it be to have a 24-man game of Knockout populated completely with NBA All-Stars?

I'm sure the Players' Association would put up a fight: most stars prefer to show off their fashion on the sidelines these days. But if we could get them on board, we could do a few things for the bigs:

- Outlet pass competition: bigs have to hit large, moving targets 50-80 ft away. Kinda like a QB competition.
- some sort of post-up 1-on-1 game for the bigs (e.g., you get the ball on the block + two dribbles)
- (my personal fave) Big Man 3PT shooting contest: for starting bigs who attempt < 1 3PT/game. No role-playing backup stretch 5s allowed.

BTW, didn't they used to have a bench press competition back in the day? I dunno if it was part of All-Star Weeknd or not, but I remember Kevin Willis would win (partly because he was diesel; partly because he had alligator arms and had to do less work). Our own Robert Pack even won the competition one year, if memory serves. Anyway, I'm sure folks wouldn't want to max out and tear a pec, but a "most reps @ 185 lbs" like they do at the combine should be fairly harmless -- although it probably wouldn't make for good TV.

I don't remember a bench press competition being part of All-Star weekend. Might be fun as one of those celeb off-season contests where athletes do made up competitions. But that's REALLY something I don't think would interest guys very much.

I like the ideas for big man competitions, though. It might also be fun to see bigs do the skills competition they currently have for PGs. I'd watch that.

Looking forward to the run to the playoffs.

Why ?

Because we now have a WallStar.

Real Plus/Minus

1 Stephen Curry, GSW 8.27
2 James Harden, HOU 7.40
3 Anthony Davis, NOP 6.92
4 LeBron James, CLE 6.47
5 Kawhi Leonard, SAS 6.22
6 Khris Middleton, MIL 5.93
7 John Wall, WSH 5.84
8 Damian Lillard, POR 5.82
9 Tyson Chandler, DAL 5.71
10 Russell Westbrook, OKC 5.7

Yes, that is Khris Middleton's name listed there. Would have been a great add while him when he was coming off MIL bench, but I doubt they would have let him go. They didn't need to. MIL is a real interesting team. Kind of interesting they are playing this well and without their top draft pick. They could be dangerous next year.

Any, Wall is clearly coming into his own. He is finally shooting a TS of .539 which was the baseline I said he had to get to. Good news, that should keep processing as it has. Dude hasn't peaked yet. He game is really coming together. Love the new post up move and floater. And, even never is probing the defensive while in the lane keeping the ball alive.

Now he has to get the 3 ball from .310 back to where it was last year .351 and that TS will bump up again.
