Re: Yi to the Wizards for Ross (not finalized)
Nobody's expecting Yi to be a longterm solution for this team, but as a one year rental to fill out the roster, why not? You never know what can happen.

A 48.1% TS is one of the worst in the entire league at PF. Coming from a Bucks fan, this guy is horrendous, but for Quinton Ross, no harm in taking a one year flier on him.
Wow, that is pretty darn ugly. I would hope that they're sending $3 million. If they send that much, it's playing on house money.

The Wizards should at least get a 2nd round pick or 2 2nd round picks in this deal. Is there a chance Yi puts it together, absolutely. But so far his defense has been poor and offensively he's been very inefficient. Other than that, he's great.

Because he sucks and is a waste of cap space. So unless we're being compensated for those two facts (especially the latter), this trade is epic fail Opportunity cost, people.LyricalRico wrote:Nobody's expecting Yi to be a longterm solution for this team, but as a one year rental to fill out the roster, why not? And he's like 37. But other than that, he's awesome.

I don't get why the Wizards wouldn't take Beasley, but would take Yi. There seems to be a lot more potential for Beasley to be a productive NBA player than Yi. I hope there is some sort of additional compensation.

This, this is not so much like that. Big men who don't score efficiently, defend well or rebound are not something I would do a favor to another team to have.
Awww c'mon Wood. We are giving up Quinton "Stinkin" Ross for Yi. You can't tell me this isn't a great trade for the Wiz considering we're giving up a guy who should be mowing my lawn right about now.
Were we operating in some parallel universe in which Nikola Tesla were properly compensated for his contributions to science and LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade were not free agents it would not be a bad trade because, as you say, Quinton Ross has no game. But here an now the Nets have a very real and immediate need to shed salary and Yi Jianlian is a bad player who has not improved at all in three years of NBA play and who is likely older than the 22 that the league office has on record.
He is no good and I would have hoped for something more if Washington is allowing the Nets to be rid of him.

We've come darn close to capping ourselves out.
Once the rookie deals are signed (at 120% of the rookie scale), we'll probably be just about at $50 million with 11 players on the roster.
Yeah, it really does come to where we should be looking for a pick for taking 'Yikes', but I don't know if any are forthcoming.

We're getting $3mil in cash in the deal according to Mike Lee.

Yeah, I suspect Randle, maybe Cartier Martin and Michael Sweetney make the team off the Summer squad.
So..
PG-Wall/Hinrich/Randle
SG-Arenas/Young/Martin
SF-Thornton/Booker/Martin
PF-Blatche/Yi/Sweetney?
C-McGee/Seraphin/N'Diaye
Looks like a 6-8 seed if healthy, but if they trade Arenas for nothing, or experience injuries to Blatche (already have), Wall, or Arenas, this team is back in the lottery next year.

Meh indeed. We are going to be some serious hot garbage next year, Wall or not.

Was never that impressed with this kid. Why would we be doing this ?
4M ? then a qualifying offer next year.
Not like Ross is worth anything to us but still.

If no pick or picks come back our way in this deal, I don't have anything positive to say about this deal or EG. Unless the light bulb suddenly turns on for him, he's not worth his contract and we're just doing the Nets a favor by giving them more cap space. They should have to pay for the privilege.

"Oh boy, let me tell you, Carlos Boozer is just playing inspired ball tonight and he is getting really physical with Washington's Andray Blatche out there. Blatche is getting worn out and he is getting beat up, it really looks like he could use a blow."
"Well you seem to be on the same wavelength as Washington coach Flip Saunders Mike, he's making his move and Yi Jianlian is heading out to center court."
"Well they're really fortunate to have him, Marv, he'll come in and really bring that toughness and physicality that Washington doesn't always get from Blatche and JaVale McGee."
edit: Clearly what's happening here is that, after having traded for noted Bama Al Thornton with surprisingly mediocre results Ernie has become drunk with power and Must Be Stopped.

Were you really expecting something else? I think people got their hopes artificially up with all the pretend scenarios being talked about in the moths since the blowup in February. But guess what? Real life isn't like internet message boards. Blame Ernie if you want, but the problem is the delusions of granduer that have been floating around this place for too long.
Bottom line - this team stinks and will continue to stink next season. And since the owner is okay with that, I don't see any reason why we should be shocked and hyper-reactive when stop-gap moves like this are made.
P.S. - This probably doesn't happen IMO if Blatche doesn't break his foot.

Re: Yi to the Wizards for Ross
Like the deal. I don't think Yi will ever be anything special but he is a better player than Ross. We get $3 mil back from NJ so money wise it is essentially a wash. Either Chairman Yi lives up to his potential (unlikely) or we trade him and his expiring contract at the trade deadline (likely). good move

FALSE.
This trade eats up another $3M of cap room, and inhibits our ability to make other deals down the road. If we are not getting some sort of pick from NJ this is a terrible, awful, indefensible deal.
