DC is the City of Lost Legacies. Phil Jackson fits that mold like no other.

Was in a sports bar earlier with some friends..got into the topic and a guy mentioned to me (with a straight face) Sam Mitchell. Remember him? THe guy coached the Raptors and was a COY not too long ago.

Any reason we can't throw his hat into the ring?

I want a young up and comer. I don't know anyone in particular, but I don't want a retread. I want a coach who can come in here and grow with the players, kind of like Thibs in Chicago.

Even the greats like Popovich and Jackson were at one point unknown and unproven.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

With each loss, this deserves to be bumped up...

I think the overwhelming choice of the board is Joerger. The only thing I'd add is that it'd be best to change the GM first - because EG is not the GM of the future here if things are going to go well - and it's always best to have the GM on board with the choice of coach. Maybe the best thing at this point is to make it a package deal - change both positions now - making sure that the choice of GM is a Joerger fan.

I've thought that Calipari would be the next coach since the middle of last season and nothing has dissuaded me from that opinion.

In fact, I'm even more confident that this will ultimately happen.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

I want the next coach to be a teacher that will actually play the young players. And he should be hired before the end of the season. Flip's tendencies are hurting the development of the young guys and thus the development of the team. I don't have any specific names, and I don't think it particularly matters, because I doubt he's still around when the Wizards start to get good. Just along as he's a developmental guy.

Then we could trade for Cousins and have the UK triumvirate complete...

I don't understand why Bill Laimbeer hasn't had an opportunity yet. I feel he would be a solid NBA coach.

I think our players need to step up. Wall needs to play smarter and Andray needs to stop partying. I don't think rearranging the chairs on the Titanic is going to accomplish much.

Having said that, I've always wanted Laimbeer, but anyone who brings a reputation for toughness and defense has my vote.

I agree. Flip has proven to be a good NBA coach. I don't think he should be fired, but if they do make a change it should be in the opposite direction towards a tough defensive oriented coach.

True. Would you say the same about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?

I used to hear a lot about Jabbar not being much of a people person, and I've occasionally seen the discussion about GOAT-type players struggling to coach, unable to relate to less gifted and/or driven players, and besides, he's got some health issues. Regardless, if he was willing and able, I'll bet he could show McGee a thing or two about economy of movement and help him with some of his moves, and McGee might hear it better coming from Jabbar.

Kareem probably suffers from Magic-itis. Magic sucked as a coach, had no idea how to explain things to less talented players.

Assuming we somehow, some way get a PF in the next draft... how about Jerry Sloan? If he can't teach the pick and roll to Wall and (PF), who can?

(...and yes, I realize he's 69. However, he teaches a VERY disciplined brand of basketball, which this team seemingly could use. I'm throwing my hands up in the air.)

Kareem may be an exception, especially if he's used as a big-man tutor. I say this because he has supreme technical skills in the post, which come from tons and tons of practice. And because he's a very smart guy, who is capable of communicating effectively when he wants to. And because he's been humbled by the lack of interest from the NBA in hiring him.
