Jeepers.
Also, I'd rather have SVG than JVG.

Re: Countdown To Randy Wittman Getting Fired
Unlikely we'd see any Van Gundy coaching the Wizards as long as Grunfeld is running the team. Ernie and Jeff had a power struggle in New York, which Jeff won.

This is another reason I like Jeff Van Gundy.

Re: Countdown To Randy Wittman Getting Fired
I don't blame Wittman because he never should have been hired in the first place. That beign said, its painfully obvious he's in over his head. Playing 11 players in the first quarter? Ridiculous.
Also why did Ariza get re-inserted into the starting lineup a game after Martel had his best game of the season? Ariza had 2 pts on 0-3 shooting in 22 minutes v the Bobcats and got re-inserted into the starting lineup....Can someone explain?

"it's another loss...I don't know what you want me to say."
LOL
I love Wittman. He's not a good coach, but nobody can win with this roster.
Poor guy is just coaching himself into getting fired so he can get paid to get away from this abomination.

Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

I would miss Wittman's post game press conferences however!
How much $$$ would Jerry Slone require to come here?
Keep Sam Cassell, fire everybody else down to the trainers.
Wizards org need a real GM in the worst way. Watching San Antonio was like watching a more advanced species feast on prey.

So sad Randy has been such a disaster of a coach. I though his strength was supposed to be that he was the coach with the balls to play the right players regardless.
So how much did they pay him again ?
Dame this sucks. But they are stuck with him. Has another team ever paid two coaches at the same time not to coach their team ?

It was really more of a moral victory for Grunfeld if you ask me.

Sorry, not Randy's fault in the least. We'd be 1-13 with Phil Jackson at the helm. Oh, ok... maybe we'd be 2-12. Is that the kind of coaching change you're thinking is possible? Someone who might be so good that he'd squeeze a handful more wins on the season out of this terrible, terrible bottom-feeding squad of players?

I'll bet the Yankees probably did that a few times.

Re: Countdown To Randy Wittman Getting Fired
I don't buy that we'd be in the same position with a marquee coach running things here.
14 games into the season I still don't really have a clue what this team is all about. Whether it's offense or defense, I really don't see a structured approach to anything.

I like Randy, I really do. I like his attitude and I think he knows basketball.
That said, it looked to me like when the 4th quarter rolled around today he just said, "**** it", and gave up. There didn't appear to be any offense being run. I know a large part of it is on the players, but it looked like he threw in the towel today after half time.

I liked EJ, too, but he only got to 1-11 after making the playoffs before EG fired Eddie. Witt is 1-13 and out of ideas.
Tonight there wasn't much defense and the team might have quit.

Obviously, there's no way to prove a counter-factual conditional of this kind. So you can only go w/ what the data suggest. By and large, coaches make very little difference in what a player produces.
I.e. going from one coach/team to another usually has negligible influence on what a player gets done. This would indicate that giving our players a different coach won't make them play better. Obviously, unless they play better our record doesn't change.
Of course there are exceptions: over the years players have produced a little more for e.g. Phil Jackson and a few others (among them, and you won't like this, being Flip Saunders).
If I recollect correctly, I gleaned this info from Dave Berri's Stumbling on Wins, and of course he supplies a reference to the research. I'm on the road and can't supply the reference right now.

Just how many coaches will EFG be allowed to fire before he gets his golden parachute?

Re: Countdown To Randy Wittman Getting Fired
Ted will continue to preach patience and cohesion, and scapegoat the injuries to Wall/Nene.
EG will continue to talk about misfortune and how unlucky we've been, and how we'll continue to gauge interest around the league for our players (all the while doing nothing, and surely spending Ted's money on Ernie's Euro-Trips to scout the next Jan Bustely)
Team is headed nowhere fast, unfortunately.
