'lo All. I've come in from the cold to provide an opinion I'm sure everyone was just on the edge of their seats in anticipation of. I think it tends to be popular to extol a go big or go home philosophy to roster construction because of how heavily the truly great players of the league can skew things, but the consistently excellent organizations of the league are also unfailingly brilliant at not having garbage players doing significant things and at consistently adding effective, holistically positive contributors.

I think Porter is such a player, and that for many organizations accepting flaws which torpedo a player's true value in the pursuit of the ultimate upside leads to rosters that are far more talented than they are good. It's not that Porter is the local kid or his Clark Kent demeanor, he just does things that are quantifiably key to successful basketball.

The Jan Vesely's of the world were too once someone's homerun.

What's up with him laying claim to Booker's # 35? Doesn't Booker have 35 tatted on his arm? He ain't giving that up.

Yeah, BTW, Booker is a MAN. He's not intimidated by anyone. Porter aint getting 35 if Booker is on the team.

Booker might not be on this team next season, so he can basically kick rocks.

Booker is easily the best big after Nene & Emeka on the team. He's needed if the Wiz cannot find a competent frontcourt player (and if they resign Martell, they have the LLE to do it).

It's a good night when you add Otto Porter - even if you preferred another player. The Phone Book welcomes back Otto Porter.

Yeah, I've been the most vocal Porter critic. As a diehard Wiz fan, I hope he proves me wrong. He'll certainly won't bust like Vesely has.

Yup, that's how I'm feeling. Porter was my number 2. My number 1, noel, was available, but we still did really well from the 3 slot. And remember that we moved up from number 8/9, and EVERYONE was gone by that pick. Great to come out of this year with a prospect like Porter.

noel has torn ACL and growth plate. What makes us think he will be as athletic as before the injury?

That's kinda scary...I had to read the bolded statement twice, but i think you are correct

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

So thrilled. Never a question this was the right pick. However was shocked to see Noel drop so I wouldn't have been mad about that either. But Otto was our guy all along and the smart pick !!!

I wasn't that impressed with Noel. He doesn't have the wide shoulders that Davis/Chandler have so i question how much weight he can put on.

Porter was rated higher than Bennett, Zeller and Len. All 3 of those guys were picked before Noel. Things that make you go hmmmmm....

I'm quite happy to add Porter. He was #2 on my personal board (which admittedly doesn't mean much, considering I don't watch college ball), behind only Noel, and even though we passed up Noel for him, well, #2 is still #2.

I feel the same, and even though I hate to ever give EG credit for possibly knowing anything better than I do, I have to figure that there might have been some intelligence circulating regarding Noel's health that contributed to his drop from #1 (on most boards) to #6.

And the #6 team electing to trade him.

I was never enamored with Noel as a prospect.

Yea, I'm assuming that same thing, which is why I'm not upset that we passed over Noel. In fact, I was skimming a few random draft sites just now, and on nbadraft.net, they mentioned that Phoenix's medical staff actually red flagged Noel, which is why they passed him up. If that's true, then I wouldn't have wanted him within 100 miles of the Wizards medical staff.

Obviously a moot point for us, but I couldn't help noticing how Bennett was looking up to Shane Battier during the interview, and it looked like a somewhat significant difference. Not sure how happy I'd be if my team drafted a PF who has to look up to a 6'8 SF. And I know I'd be upset if my team did that with the #1 pick. Have fun, Cavs fans!
