On top of that they passed up a much better player who will have a terrific career in the NBA.

This is a very sad day for me. I knew he screwed up about Millsap, Blair, Curry, and Faried.

This one's worse IMO.

Passed up Withey and Muscala there. Wolters too.

And Jamaal Franklin, who is way better than Rice.

What a MORON.

Franklin can't shoot tho...that's kinda important.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

I don't know CCJ, Dat is a big fan of Rice from what I can remember. I hope that the Wiz buy a pick to take Murphy.

nah, this organization doesn't believe in drafting in the 2nd round

it sucks, we could use a front court prospect.

They aren't going to suddenly turn Seraphin into a rebounder.

Per NBAdraft.net

Glen Rice Jr.

NBA Comparison: Morris Almond /Anthony Peeler

I can live with that, if I'm not mistaken, the Wizards are undefeated with Mo Almond.

Rice looks more like a backup 2 than a backup 3, so I don't see him causing a true glut at the SF position. The Wizards needed a backup 2 (well, other than Webster sliding over), and if he can keep his head on straight, he can contribute in that role.

Doesn't feel like a fresh pick. He can shoot though.

In a bubble, seems like a solid early second round pick, and I'm genuinely happy we didn't just use the pick for cash or stash. Not in a bubble, there were several choices left I would've gone with ahead of him, and we definitely did not need yet another filler SF on the roster. Hopefully he can handle playing SG in the NBA.

As a whole, feels like we could've done better, could've done worse. In other words, our best second round in years!

What's the "straight up thug" story on GRJ? I let my subscription to Gangster Weekly lapse.

I also wonder if this pick was made cause they think they got good value if beal's health ends up being a concern. I thought Rice had late 1st round talent so I'm not terribly upset. Just seems odd.

Also the guy is on an unguaranteed contract (thats the case for 2nd rounders, right?), he'll have a reason to behave. If you're mad at the pick cause it wasn't the guy you wanted that is fine...but he has just as much upside as a lot fo the other guys available. Still woulda gone a different direction but this won't ruin my night.

I'd like to know the details as well. I see that he was kicked off the team at Georgia Tech, but is he a Boogie Cousins, or an Aaron Hernandez?

Oof.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... m-shooting

ATLANTA -- Glen Rice Jr. was kicked off the Georgia Tech basketball team Tuesday, less than a week after a shooting incident outside an Atlanta nightclub led to criminal charges.

Coach Brian Gregory cut ties with the junior guard, who was serving his second suspension of the season at the time of the latest trouble. A graduate student manager already had been dismissed from the program for the same incident.

If he can keep his head on straight, he's going to be a tremendously valuable player off the bench in a season or two. I wouldn't be surprised if he contributed next season in some capacity tbh. The dude has legitimate nba skills.

Little bit of Blatche, little bit of Crittenton. Another tweener.

...so are you saying we should bring in Javaris Crittendon in as his shooting coach, not GIl?

On the other hand...

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-06-2 ... round.html

Rice was benched at the end of his sophomore season at Georgia Tech and suspended twice for a total of nine games as a junior. He was kicked off the team in March 2012 after driving a car from which one of his passengers fired a gun.

Ryan Blake, the NBA’s director of scouting operations, said that Rice’s D-League performance has shown his maturity.
“He took the bull by its horns, he made it professionally,” Blake said. “He’ll tell you that he made mistakes, was immature, did things that were wrong.”

So, it sounds like he was hanging out with some knuckleheads and got punished for it. And, if this Ryan Blake is to be believed, he's learned from his mistake and grown from it.

As "thugs" go, this doesn't seem *that* bad.

And what is it with guns and Ga. Tech? I always thought that was a nerdy school.
