Right now, Porter can play 2,3 and a little 4. In the future he can play a little 2, 3, 4, and maybe a tad bit of center in super small line ups.
But he can defend multiple positions. In the future he could possibly be that guy you can sick on all 5 positions, and just put him on the best player on the other team. He is going to be a solid player once, he fills out and works on getting his scoring down.

I'd rather he bulk up some to become 3 with some stretch 4. I don't want him guarding combo guards. Then again, I don't know if porter can put on 25-30 lbs in 3-4 seasons...maybe 15-20.

He's got passable upper body bulk right now. It's those skinny legs that put him at a disadvantage. He needs to add strength to his lower half to be able to play as a stretch 4 and guard power forwards.

Geez, I don't think it is in his genes to get that big.

He just needs to juice a bit. Hit Lebron or Dwight up for their connects

I love that Porter has played well and getting some over due respect. I think his Defense is something we need badly, Plus, he's a local from G-Town. Win-Win..............................................................................................................................

I missed this statement, which has to be one of the most senseless things I've ever read. If a guy misses most of his shots and otherwise doesn't put numbers on the stat sheet -- he had a bad game, and nothing you can learn when you "see his moves, see his confidence" changes that. On the other hand, if the same guy shoots a high %, gets boards, doesn't turn it over, steals a lot, etc. etc. etc. -- then "see(ing) his moves, his confidence" adds nothing to your understanding of the good game he had. What if he doesn't look confident? You're saying he had a less good game than if he looked confident? Ridiculous.

Illmatic12 wrote:@stevemcqueen yeah that weakside block by Otto was nasty, the foul was away from that play but had it not been called that was a highlight block (it was on Valanciunas too, I think).

I agree he just needs to get stronger, and maybe train with resistance bands or whatever they use so he can improve his explosiveness and footspeed. But at this point I'm 90% sure if Porter stays healthy, he has a *floor* as a legit starter for this team who could potentially swing between positions 2-4.

He kind of has a Go Go Gadget thing working for him doesn't he.

Wonder what took him so long to ditch the glasses. I think it was messing with his perimeter vision and what had something to do with that Shaqn a Fool play where he lost his defender out of the corner of his eye. I guess he wanted to minimize the chance of that happening in the playoffs.

Glad these young guys got to beat TOR game 1 even if he was in an ugly game. Playoff wins are huge for young players to experience.

I watched some of the Boston vs CLE game. Those young guys did pretty well. The score doesn't tell the whole story. Hell, they were eve up at one point.

Lots for player getting first time experience this year. Even players that have been around like Love. tts Kyries first playoffs. You have most lots from the BOS team, Lots of the CLE team. The MIL team. NO and AD. Real good for the league. Good for the East.

I loved how active Porter was on D. He definitely made life tougher on Derozan, and he grabbed some big tough rebounds late.

He should play more. He may not score a ton but he's kind of a poor man's Ariza in how he fulfills a lot of other roles.

And this is why, whenever anybody says they wanted to take Noel (like myself), we ALWAYS included the caveat of "But I still think Porter will be a good player and am not unhappy with the pick."

His defense, rebounding and court awareness was off-the-charts good tonight.

Kills me that it took until the playoffs for him to get a chance to play, but I'm also happy to see that Wittman trusts him now that it really matters.

If he can maintain that energy, don't even care about his scoring, it should be a real confidence boost heading into next season.

I like looking at the front page and seeing this thread, titles "Otto Porter Part 2". Seems fitting, like he has started the second chapter of his NBA career in this series - not unlike the way Beal came alive in last year's playoffs. Way to go Otto, looking forward to good things from you now and in the future.

If I'm not mistaken he's had good games against Toronto this year. I'm glad he played really well this second game. He's still skinny yet he led the game in rebounds in only his second ever playoff game. Personally as a prospect ( other than athleticism and strength) I've liked him more pre draft than paul george or kawhi. He can already shoot the ball. I have my own personal concerns about his defense in the ways cj watsons strength was exposing him, he gets screened off the ball easy and sometimes loses track of his man but again these are strength related issues.

Overall playing against Toronto suits him. The type of numbers he puts up will help his progression forward at the same pace paul george rose to prominence. But im happy for him. Out of our young ones my mind is on him mostly cause the other ones are establishing themselves. Also I always want them to be Klay, Steph and Westbrook level aggressive and it seems for the playoffs they are. It's what counts

DeRozan was playing his best basketball and came into the series with a ton of confidence. And tonight he got off to a great start before Porter checked in. I can't praise Otto enough for his ability to stifle DeRozan with his D. And tonight he made a lot of big rebounds and tough baskets. He has been a key contributor in his first playoff action. This is very encouraging.

Small sample size theatre, ha!

Seriously, though. Otto was third on the Wizards last night and first in ORtg.

15 points on 8 shots. 9 boards, an assist, a steal and nary a turnover.

His defense has been spectacular; his length really bothers people.
