Ernie is the master of buying high on players having years where you normally would buy low. Bogdanovich = an expiring playing 27 inefficient minutes a night for the worst team in the league. Markieff Morris = a player in the middle of a disastrous season where he played like ****, feuded with teammates and his coach and Phoenix was desperate to get rid of him.

Honestly Nicholson could put up similar stats as Boban on the Nets. We got the worst player in the trade.

As the saying goes, a trash team's treasure is probably trash.

Barf. I was right about them trying to dump Nicholson at least. Bogdanovic sucks, McCullough is interesting but not good enough to lose a 2017 first.

I'm not crazy right?? I feel like the only one who thought this deal was awful. Bogdanovic is a dreadful defense player, even for Nets standards. Chris is interesting, but it's concerning that he couldn't get minutes on the Nets. Will take a look at what the Nets board thinks.

He's a project. He's got upside to be a shot blocking stretch four but he doesn't rebound consistently even under our D-league team. He's averaging 19/9 as a Long Island Net.

The issue with him is strength. He's still lacking the ability to set quality screens but the offensive talent is there. I think our GM dealt him based off need and the fact our FO believes Hollis-Jefferson's long term position is Power Forward. We didn't have room to develop McCullough. He may need a couple seasons or so to show he can contribute.

I don't love it but I don't hate it either.

In part because I'm intrigued by McCullough's upside.

Get me a guard and I'll feel better.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

So a few things are obvious here, Nicholson was always going to be attached to the pick.

The Lakers weren't going to add an additional 2-3 years worth of salary in exchange for Lou Williams.

The price on Barton and Chandler must be sky high, probably would have had to include Oubre in there.

I would hope Washington isn't done. They could still package Burke and a second for more firepower.

Oh, we definitely aren't keeping him. This was a salary dump, pure and simple. EG just figured he'd do it now instead of in the offseason so at least he could benefit from having a halfway competent Bogdanovic for the remainder of the season.

EG sacrificed a 1st round pick in a good draft to avoid the luxtax and picked up a half decent rental in the process. Why oh why won't Ted fire EG?

My biggest problem with the trade itself is that I don't think we are in much need of another 2/3. We certainly don't need one as badly as we need a backup PG.

How many times now has EG sacrificed a 1st round pick to avoid paying the luxtax and/or pick up rentals? The Crittenton trade, the Etan / Songaila trade. The Redskins in Vinny's heyday valued picks more than EG does.

Bogdanovic had to play vs starters, will be much more efficient off the bench. Like I said he's no Ginobili but he's more than qualified to play the Mike Miller/Kyle Korver role.

And he'll have Oubre next to him to guard the harder defensive matchup on the wing.

I wouldn't consider it a horrible trade just by itself with the Nets taking on about $20 million for a late first round pick*, but the merit of the trade is to clean up a mess made recently by the very man who's executing the trade.

I'm seeing the whole "bench help" pretext as being a clever ruse.

I do think people are somewhat underrating Bojangles, though. I accidentally forgot to erase the recent Nets game, which I watched a bit of after hearing the rumors. He's not too bad and could easily go up in efficiency if receiving less defensive attention - he can certainly shoot and has some fairly deceptive ability to put the ball on the floor. He is a bad defender, but I think a bigger issue is that he really doesn't look anything like a 2-guard with his body type.

Anyway, the merits of Bojangles seem well secondary to just dumping Nicholson in a manner that's murky enough in basketball terms to confuse at least some of the critics. Classic Grunfeld.

*ok, while also gaining the services of Huckleberry Hound for 3 years.

Would be a great trade if EG's tenure began yesterday.

Problem is the need to offload Nicholson was caused by EG signing him in the first place.

I think EG is hoping the initial rumors of Evans getting waived come to fruition. If not that, he's banking on someone with a pulse getting waived. I'm sure this is how RC Buford operates.

If it turns out that Tyreke Evans gets cut, I'm gonna be real annoyed. I'd rather have him for free than Bodganovic for a 1st. Either way, I think we could have dumped Nicholson this offseason by using either the 2017 or 2018 pick.

I would say it's pretty much a guarantee that we don't keep Bojangles.

Edit: actually, if we ditched someone like Smith we might be able to keep him.

We've seen this before. We knew it was coming. And yet, it's still infuriating.
