Seems like it. Ted probably couldn't believe his luck. To have his guy Shepp pull of what appeared to be the steal of the century. A current ALL-NBA player and future HOF'er for a PG that threw more gang signs in one video than assists in the last two years. How could that not be a major win!? I bet they celebrated the deal big time. Shepp just dumped the guy he inadvertently pissed off, got a superstar name in return, basically cleaning up his own mess and it only took a heavily protected pick to do so.
The thing is that fast PGs, who make their money in the open court and getting to the rim, who blow their Achilles are usually washed. And its not like he wasn't on the wrong side of 30 to begin with, with a lot of mileage, just less than Westbrook. It was reasonable to assume that even if Russ was washed, he was less likely to be washed than John was. Sure John looked great in warm-ups, and it looked like he had his burst back. But you never know until you see them in actual games. Trading Wall + a pick that is pretty unlikely to convey for Westbrook, who did make All-NBA even if he was kind of declining, is a move that is 60-40 of working out, and of that 40, it's 80-20 that it's a wash (both of them suck). Westbrook being washed and Wall looking like an All-Star was the *least* likely outcome by far.
