Probably Rui and KCP (who Indy would flip) plus our FRP (trade completed after the draft to comply with Stepien rule). Would I do it? NOOO. Brogdon at 29 is probably a soon to be declining asset after several injuries, and his 3 point shooting has gone down much like Beal's. I definitely would not trade for Brogdon. I'd go the Tyus Jones for the MLE route and probably swingman Kendall Brown (assuming we pick 9th yet again) in the draft.

I don't see Sheppard doing that. Not at that price anyhow. Sheppard has valued our youth and picks. He wouldn't trade a recent lotto pick and a future first-round pick for a 29 year old who is merely an above-average starter.

I wonder what Shepp and Beal (and his agent) discussed pre-deadline, and how much that convo influenced yesterday's moves.

Would Kuzma bring back a decent guard? Indiana does have a lot of guards and Kuzma is still young enough to be part of a rebuild. If not Brogdan, maybe someone else. Would be hilarious to see Hollywood Kuzma walk thru downtown Indianapolis in his giant pink sweater. If not Indiana, maybe back to California - Sacramento to link up with Fox and Sabonis?

Also, if Brad wants to leave, maybe he opts into the last year of his deal so we can send both him and his buddy KCP somewhere. I'm sure a contender could use those two to put them over the top.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

I think the plan is simple. Play out the remaining year and give Kispert, Deni, and Rui all the burn they can handle.
I think using Kuz/KCP along with Rui/2022 1st for another distressed asset is going to be the move.

Look for John Collins, Jerami Grant, Jonathan Isaac, or Marcus Smart...maybe even a SnT for Miles Bridges

One thing to keep in mind. I think they want to move Beal into the Harden/Jamal Murray role. I think an MLE FA will be a hardnosed, high IQ, low usage PG like Tyus Jones.

This is probably closer to WILL do, and not should do.

Drafting AJ Griffin and signing Tyus/Rubio/etc. would be my choice. No need to commit to anything until the deadline.

Posted in the Tommy thread but relevant here:

For: a Big name player + 2nd round pick. A veteran, a young prospect, + 2nd round pick. A decent sized TPE + cash.
All without attaching any picks or disadvantageous pick swaps.

We dumped our problems and recouped assets. Traded our bad deals and landed only upside. (Granted: Except KP's injury history and large contract). Even if he was simply cleaning up his own mess, well hell, that is responsible grown man effort. You don't hold on to your mistakes and hope they improve, you make a move to fix it. Props Tommy. I like it.

He basically was gifted a do-over from the Dinwiddie/Bertans signings and regained a visible path towards mediocrity instead of just being plain bad.

Up until Dallas did him that solid, the ugly writing was on the wall where a rebuild would have been the only option. Beal would have likely extended and asked for a trade this offseason if the Wizards weren't capable of making significant move. Now there's a legit 3rd option (who will masquerade as a 2nd here) to sell to Beal along with whatever happens at the draft & FA to acquire additional pieces.

I mean its an incredible trade from a Wizards perspective. Just removing two malcontents & non performers alone is benefical. To get a potentially useful if injury prone & slightly overpaid starter in return on top it is just delicious icing on the cake.

But i can't help feeling if they were better off long term by being forced to face the harsh reality of a rebuild this summer. Now, there's avenue to go all in on a team that's still ultimately playoff fodder for the legit contenders.

I just hope they are smart enough to use Beal's injury & Kristaps health as a clear runway to position the team for a high pick this summer. That's likely the only chance for this group to have a chance at being relevant.

Yep. Still, given that Tommy is handicapped by Ted's mandate to win-now every year, to upgrade from chickenshxt to chicken salad is pretty remarkable. Even if we all would prefer to go hungry for a bit and eat steak instead later on. (Or whatever the gourmet version of Vegan food is if you swing that way).

I'd love to showcase Kristaps in limited minutes, to give flashes of hope to Ted so he doesn't meddle. And still tether KP with load restrictions from the medical management wing of things. Then once he has sold Ted on a future, and given him hope to re-sign Beal, we shelve him and tank into a top talent.

If Beal is unconvinced and chooses to sign and trade elsewhere, so much the better. Tommy did his job, Ted can say no hard feelings, Brad can get paid, the Wiz can recoup assets with a solid core. Especially if Beal can help the team time it so that we can swap Beal for players in this draft as well as future ones (and likely pick up a sizeable TPE in the process).

Anyway, in the past under different management that level of creativity was inconceivable. Under Tommy, hell, anything is possible, and you likely won't know about it until the trade has already happened. It makes it fun to speculate. This cat could do anything, you never know.

If Beal gets enticing offers from other teams and decides he wants to try something new, we could pretty instantly re-load to a team that is fun to watch play AND has a future developing.

It would not surprise me if this team advanced very far in the playoffs this season

Shift the paradigm.... I am in a hurry but I will explain later

The question is are there any non traditional roles fo roles for point guard different offensives like the Princeton offense is every point guard the same

The point guard generally brings the ball up court and there are a lot of guys that can do that flawlessly and there are a lot of guys that can do that and make a decent pass

There are good point guards all over the damn place out of work and the wizards have finally figured it out that is the easier position to replace than most

If John gets bought out, honestly I would LOVE a reunion. He's still an elite passer. Has great size. He'd be 1000X the PG Dinwiddie was.

He hasn't forced Sheppard to trade youth to win now yet. I don't see why he would start now.

A move like that might make sense for a younger guy like the way Chicago went after Lonzo Ball last year. But I've seen no indication that Sheppard would trade so many young assets for a 29-year-old who has already peaked.

He's the same age as KCP and Beal, so I don't think the age thing is the stretch you do. Yes, they definitely should have gone after Ball. He would have been near perfect for us.

I keep looking at the projected lineups people are posting and imagining "Lillard" next to PG lol. Is there ANY chance of that?

Lillard makes $42.5M next year. We would have to send out at least $34M in matching salary. That would be pretty tough to do while still maintaining a roster of competent players.

It would leave us with the same problems that Portland had. It's unwise to spend 75% of your cap on two guards who are both lousy defenders.

I still think the 2nd most important move(after keeping Beal) is trading Kuzma. Such a polarizing player. As the box score numbers rise, his on/off numbers continue to sink. He's dead last on the wizards by a mile. Raptor player ratings have him rated as the 4th worst player in the entire league out of players that have played atleast 1500 minutes, just above Westbrook, Julius Randle, and Saddiq Bey.

Seems like 70% of the fanbase actually thinks he's having some breakout season and becoming an all star player. Unseld Jr obviously believes this as well, maybe the NBA GMs think so?

He really is a great tank commander. Let him fill up the box score on a terrible team as we tank our way to a top 10 pick. Let him average a triple double and 20 PPG. Maybe Tommy can work some magic and flip him for a 1st round pick on draft night.

The following players and salaries come off the books at the end of the season:
$8.6M - Thomas Bryant
$1.6M - Raul Neto
$1.5M - Anthony Gill

That's a total of $11.7M. We are currently $11.0 under the salary cap, and we have $13.1M in cap space.
Who do we want to re-sign? What free agent do we want to go after who would fit under our cap?

Kuzma and deni are untradeable, that’s a hell of a forward combination,
2 guys on the floor who can guard 2-4, heck they both was keeping up with kyrie last game and a few games back…
Not to mention how smart deni plays and how clutch kuzma been this year
