Ted Leonsis’ 2nd season as the majority owner.
There’s been some nice alternatives since. I think the chief among them was the “Stars and Stripes” during the 2016-17 season which was a 49-win campaign and a game short of the Eastern Conference Finals.
“The District of Columbia” ones were also decent. The whites used in 2017-18 and in the playoffs were tough. The blue ones have been in rotation since.
I’ve seen the younger fans, those born after 2002, longing for a return of the 1997-2011 branding. I guess they liked the “Wizards 25” season that brought the white versions of those back.
Those of us who were born before 1997 know that the fanbase disliked those uniforms in 2010 and longed to a design which had echoes of the last time the franchise was relevant.
Ted obliged and basically brought back a rendition of the Washington Bullets uniforms but with navy blue.
I’ve seen some decent mockups. But I’d rather see a simplistic design. Something like this.
I talked to Will Dawkins last year at an event a friend of mine invited me to. Will was super cool. One thing he said was that a rebrand was coming.
Reading the tea leaves, it’ll probably come when the Capitol One Arena renovations are done for the 2027-28 season.
So with that, what kind of rebranding do you want to see?
I like the white and red ones pictured. The blue ones look too much like Detroit. But I do like that Webber era look.

Re: Wizards Rebrand Ideas
I wouldn’t say that either of those 3 ^^ constitute a “rebrand.”
And personally, I don’t want to see anything that harkens to those years. Not a thing. (Also, those 3? They’re flat and ugly.)
You evoke, if there’s glory to be evoked.
Otherwise, you innovate. You come up with something new.
I want new colors, new fonts, a new logo.
And I want a uniform that we can look at and say — this team is elite, aesthetically elite. These unis don’t look like anything else out there.

My understanding is that someone else holds the trademark for "The District" -- which is why every Wizards' "The District" jersey has "of Columbia" in teeny, tiny letters below.
Of course, if Monumental really wanted it, I'm sure they could acquire or license the trademark for the right price.
Get it done. The Wizards name holds only slightly less embarrassment than Bobcats.
Okay but the New York team is named the poofy pants.

Also. If you had all the team nicknames fight, in any sport. I think the Wizards are in the final four, if not the last man standing.
I think they’d only surely be beaten by the Suns. Who I guess are beaten by the Cosmos of that long defunct soccer league that Pelé played for.

Now I need to see a ranking of most powerful teams by name. The Hurricanes would be tough but a Wizard can control the weather.

Re: Wizards Rebrand Ideas
Maybe create something that plays into the Wizards theme, but with darker imagery, with lightning and fireballs… Like evil wizardry instead of the white beard Gandolf figure everyone thinks of…. Something more sinister looking, and the arena could be lit with fireballs and lightning exploding everywhere during games!
I don’t know. That’s probably terrible actually.

The Washington Necromancers? I mean our home crowd is often pretty dead.

If someone is a thread necromancer, they can find what the board wanted the name to be back then. I think our favorite was the Washington Power. Then they came out with that competition where the other name choices were clearly picked to lose (the Washington Sea Dogs?) so it was clear the team wanted Wizards.

To capture the hopeful anticipation that accompanied the team's rebuild after so many past failures, followed by yet another series of blunders, maybe The Washington Reflecting Pools would be a good rebrand.

They need to differentiate themselves. I've always felt that the rebrand leaned a bit to heavily into homogenozing the teams.

Like it!
But: wouldn’t call this a rebrand. Nothing really fresh and new. It’s a tweak. A good one: the depth of the blue, the cleanness of the design, the subtlety of the stars and bars.

I might be a bit strong on my language but I remember most fans tired of the previous design in 2011.
