Yup. If I'm LA, I'd be on the phone with Sacramento. Odom for Artest + Kenny Thomas would help both teams. Sacramento positions themselves for big cap room in Summer 2009 when there are a lot of free agents available. LA ends up with the best starting 5 in the league hands down.

Ah, that explains it. Wallace was that miserable GM in Bahston for a spell. He's the same cat that traded Joe Johnson during his rookie season for the buffet-loving Rodney Rogers so they could barely make the playoffs.

I don't understand how these dudes can keep getting jobs when its proven their complete idiots.

Gasol may have been a bad fit with that roster in Memphis but they essentially gave him away for nothing in terms of actual production. Critt isn't going to get any minutes with all those bodies in the backcourt they got now.

At least Kwame will be partying his ass off on Beale Street nights after home games.

Where's that list of most lopsided trades ever?

How can Memphis even faintly justify this? What an atrocious trade.

crap I am going to that game too.

more importantly how does th elusive Juan Carlos feel now about getting out from the wiz who have a winning record and now being stuck in Memphis without his guy pal Gasol.

This is exactly what I was thinking...wow...hahaha :D damn...

But as others have said...this trade made Lakers ridiculously good...oh well...I guess we'll have to play them a couple of more times than expected this season.

Holy Fuggin $h!t!!!!! That reeks of a conspiracy. That's all they gave up for Gasol. Who the hell is the GM for Memphis?? He should be put before a firing squad. Well, there's your 2008 NBA champions. That lineup is stacked.

Haha Suck on that Navarro!!!!!! Welcome to the NBA biatch!!!!!!

But still, there's something fishy going on. There seems to be a concerted effort by the NBA to get big market teams back into the limelight. There has to be some under the table crap going on. First, New York landed Randolph...although that was a wash. Boston suddenly has Garnett, and Allen, now L.A just landed Gasol....for rubbish no less. WTF?!?! I call foul.

This trade doesn't work in the TC.

Lakers have to add Vujajic (expiring) to make it work.

I wonder if that Swift for Jason Collins deal is part of this. If you include those salaries as part of a big, three-way trade, that'll probably generate enough room under the Traded Player Exemption to make the deal work.

This HAS TO BE ownership's call. They want immediate relief. Lakers give up a bunch of expirings to make it happen.

If I'm LA, I try and trade Odom for Redd/whatever wing scorer. LAL are the team to beat now.

This is **** travesty.

The Lakers get an All Star PF for cap room and picks?

Are you **** kidding me?!?! There's NOTHING DC had that Memphis would have bit on?

Damn. I was really hoping there was some way Gasol would end up in DC. I really like his game, and its not often an all star PF comes available like this. [Note that I didn't say I would have traded AJ for Gasol and reopen that whole can of worms. Oh, ****... I just did, didn't I?]

Juan and Pau...

As soon as that marriage happened, it all comes to an end. Is Juan Carlos gonna cry his way back to Spain now that he's not with his bestest buddy?

Kobe's gotta be the happiest man on the planet right now.

Is Memphis under the salary cap? Can they use that expiring $9 mil to offer to Jamison?

How much do the draft picks count for?

I think Memphis came out OK to think about it. They wanted needed a young 2g (Crittendon) to play alongside Conley and Gay. They can tank for the #1 pick (Beasley) and start with a really nice team:

PG: Conley/Lowry
SG: Miller/Critt
SF: Gay/Jones
PF: Beasley/Warrick
C: Darko/Collins

That is a very nice looking team assuming they get Beasley. Plus, they have no cap restraints.

Mentioned it in the resigning Jamison thread, but Memphis has both Stoudamire and Kwame off the books this summer.

I just bought tickets. Lower level. First time I've been down in the high class seats. I know they're closer, but I'm behind the basket so I'm wondering if it will actually be better. As long as I have better food options than "dress my dog" and get a good look at Gasol and Kobe.

That Darko / Collins combo at C will easily be one of the worst in the league. Darko has officially become a bust for the 2nd time in his career. He's the foreign version of Kwame. Collins shouldn't even be in the league anymore.

Critt would be an undersized 2. He needs the ball in his hands to be effective. That's not going to happen with Conley & Lowry.

Memphis needs Beasley in the worst way. There's only a 25% that they'll get him.

I like Gay, Conley & Lowry but it must suck to be a Grizz fan right now.

Regarding Sunday's game (I'll be there with wife and,for the first time, baby.)

Unless Gasol is familiar with the triangle, I'm not sure how much burn he'll get in his first game with the Lakers. I wouldn't worry about his minutes against us on Sunday.

That being said, Jerry West picked the wrong day to start smoking crack.

Why would they want Jamison? Why would Jamison go there? Memphis is tanking for Beasley. They should try and trade Miller/Cardinal/Darko for picks, expirings, and do a rebuild around Gay and Conley.
