Uh Doc, my high school French is really rusty (now if Seraphin were speaking Russian I'd be money), would you care to give us a summary of what he said?

Voice actually. It's audio only. He has a calm assertive voice, sounds eager to be here, excited. If he were reading a bedtime story you might find it difficult to fall asleep since his robust timbre and evident good humor would entice you to listen eagerly waiting for the pages to turn. He sounds like he can rebound well, won't mind a bit of banging and thumping, has a robust sonorousness that leads you to believe that his ankle injury is a fluke, not a pattern of vulnerability.
Hope that helps.
Okay: With the tiny French I have: he's eager to come to DC, thinks he can earn playtime here, is eager to play for the French team, looks forward to playing with the guys on that team. That's all I got.

We need to get Diderotn to come back here and translate. Or better yet - N'Diaye. He is not suck.
(with apologies to people who were not around 4 or so years ago - when Diderotn (a unique Frenchman) was a regular poster here)

The really important thing to know is if was asked whether he was coming to the Wizards this season or not, and what his answer was. That's the biggest question right now I think. Also, what's his physical condition/injury situation and how does he feel about playing for the Wizards.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
My French has improved by leaps and bounds in my 5 months over here.....I will give it a shot later today. Written I understand everything, it's similar enough to my Spanish where I get everything. But spoken can be crazy beyond my daily tasks. Boetie for instance is pronounced "bow-e-see". Maddening for a spanish speaker!
Will be a good test of my progress.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
Also for what it's worth read an article in basketusa.com (French hoops site) that had a quote from Seraphin stating he would not risk injury playing for the French national squad in Turkey this August at the world championships (speaking of which I will be there....had to throw that in.....forgive me)
His reason for not playing? He wanted to be ready for his coming NBA season........of course the buyout situation with his Cholet squad is still up in the air. A few articles concerning that well.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
According to sham sports twitter account yesterday, Kevin Seraphin signed his three year deal. If true, then the buyout must have been accomplished as well.

James Anderson and Kevin Seraphin have both signed their rookie deals. Now only three unsigned 2010 1sts; Aldrich, Henry, Greivis Vasquez.

Hopefully it's a true and accurate report. I haven't seen it reported anywhere else so far.
They were correct about James Anderson, so that gives me some encouragement they could be right about Seraphin.

Re: Kevin Seraphin

Wizards first-round pick Kevin Seraphin was cut from the French team earlier this week. His release was hardly a surprise since he has yet to fully recover from a knee injury suffered in May. Seraphin, whom the Wizards obtained in a pre-draft deal with Chicago, was in town for summer league minicamp but was limited to light workouts and spectator duty while he still works out a buyout agreement from his team, Cholet, and recovers from his knee injury.
Seraphin had no intention of playing for France this summer and was recently quoted in the French publication, LeFigaro.fr, saying that his "priority is the NBA." He also said, through a loose Google translation, that is his plan was "to integrate myself into the team next year, I can not take risks knowing that I am not 100 percent right now.
The United States will play France in an exhibition on Aug. 15 at Madison Square Garden. It will interesting to see if any Wizards are around for that game.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
So if he didn't want to risk hurting the knee more and his priority is to come to the Wizards, why was he cut ? It would seem like the report would be, Seraphin leaves the team, not that he was cut.
"Jun 3, 2010 ... Draft prospect Kevin Seraphin is out 2-3 weeks with a minor knee injury. "
So what exactly was this knee injury he suffered in May that was reported as minor but is a big enough deal that he can't play two months later?
6-9 without shoes so what are we calling him 6-10 or 6-11 260/265 with 7-3 wing span.
Rebounds and Blocks shots. NBA body ready. Age 21
I can't wait to see this kid in a uni.
We are assembling some young bigs with Dray, McGee and Seraphin.
Plus we have Wall. If Seraphin is the real deal and ends up being our starting center long term, this team is a lot closer than many may think. God, if Booker ends up working out also we would have a lot of assets. That's not even mentioning Gil and what if Yi gets better or Nick matures.
Wow, we went from not being that athletic and having problems with an athletic team like Atlanta to being very athletic.

From a French buddy:
Dude saying how he needs to get back in shape after his two-month break. Also that he won't be in the World Cup and how disappointed he is not to play with the French team, but he can't take the risks because of his NBA team.
Also how good it felt to win the title with his French team this past season. How he felt when his name was called by D-Stern on draft day.
Also how excited he is to go to Washington, with a young promising team. He also agrees John Wall is very talented and has what it takes to be a leader in the league.
Someone on the Wizards Blog -- Dave Johnson or SportsWiz said they have no official confirmation, but all indications are that management intends on Seraphin being on the Wiz roster this season.

Re: Kevin Seraphin
I'm thrilled that it looks like Seraphin will be on the Wizards roster this coming season. I honestly didn't expect to see him for at least a year, maybe even two. However, I remain cautiously optimistic about his talents. I think he has great physical tools and size, and I don't think anyone's doubting that. I also think he's incredibly raw, but he's passionate about basketball, and has the fundamental skill set needed to contribute in small spurts immediately in the NBA, while he works on becoming a more complete and dominating player in the mean time. I don't expect him to see many minutes if he makes the squad this season, mainly because he's just not an NBA player yet. I think he'll do fine when he's on the court, but we'll also see a lot of "rookie mistakes". But realistically, I see Seraphin as a guy who's going to take a good 3 years to warrant regular playing time, and I think the Wizards know this. While we want him on the court, and we want to give him playing time, opportunities, and experience, I think we'll hold him back a little bit to avoid a possible blow to his confidence when he doesn't stand a chance against the elite NBA competition that he's not used to.

Whether it's how long it will take for the Wiz to become contenders or how quickly Seraphin can contribute, most people are thinking way too long.rockymac52 wrote:I'm thrilled that it looks like Seraphin will be on the Wizards roster this coming season. Serge Ibaka was considered just as raw and you see what he was able to accomplish in his rookie season and that's 1 year after being a non-starter on his overseas team. If Seraphin can be 2/3 of the rookie Serge Ibaka was last year then the Wiz are in serious business. All Seraphin has to shoot for in year one is Serge Ibaka.
