I'm tired of the glen rice jr hate who cares about his past we all made mistakes even people in this thread. He a very good player and will help us on the court that's all that matters and he seems to have mature a lot.

Wolters had 53 in an NCAA game this season. He followed that up with 36.
Not bad for a PG who also averaged over 5 assists and 5 rebounds.

You know I like Wolters. I'm just looking for some bright side.

What's up with the judgement? He's 22 and had some issues in college. Which in this day in age is a red flag, but its not like he wasn't punished for it. He was kicked off the team, lost his schalorship, scrutinzed in the media, and almost lost his future in basketball. However, from all accounts, he's learned from his past and worked his butt off over the past year to get himself right. I commend him for that because there are so many others, who the story doesn't end as well.
Now I will never have the ability to predict the future, but I can say that Glen Rice Jr. is a very talented young man, who has earned the right to be drafted into the NBA. Everyone in the 2nd round has question marks, character, hieght, skill, strength, experience, etc. Some of those things can be addressed, some can't. I say all of that to say that as a man who has turned his life over to God over the past few years, people can change. Who I was at from 18-25, is not the person I am at 30. Thank God that he didnt judge me during those times, as you seem to be judging Rice.
It's Sunday. MDStar, I have done a lot of soul searching. I am not the same guy at 52 that I was at 45. 40, 35, 30, 25, or 20. I have become acquainted with pain and suffering. I have seen the worst of times. I have also learned to press through. Wisdom can be gained through the best and worst of times.
1 Kings 3:8,9. NKJV
"And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people too numerous to be numbered or counted.
Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours."
Discernment, the ability to judge righteously, is what young Solomon asked for. His request for wisdom pleased God. When you raise kids or are in any position of responsibility or authority, you have to know right from wrong and make good judgments to lead others. You can't always say yes. You have to say no at times. It helps to have wisdom.
Only God knows (and if you don't believe I respect you) the future. That kid Rice may be a better guy than I could hope to be. He's young and has an opportunity to fulfill his dream. MDStar, who am I (CCJ on RealGM) to judge? I am a man full of faults. Isaiah knew his lips were unclean. Paul called himself chief of the sinners. I'm no better than anyone else because I will never be perfect, either.
That said, I have told you what I think about Rice Jr. I would have rewarded others with the opportunity he's been given. He's demonstrated very poor judgment in the past.

Re: Glen Rice Jr.
I ranked the pick of Rice "very high." But, I just watched the developmental-league, dunk contest and was highly disappointed by Rice's outing. Yes, it's only a dunk contest. It's not practice. Not even practice. Or a game. I'm talking about a dunk contest. But, Rice did absolutely nothing to prepare. He came in trying to look "too cool for school," and made a complete ass of himself (not by not making the dunks, but by not preparing a single dunk). And this, after his supposed growth in maturity spurt. I'm dropping my grade to high. But, that to me is a redder flag than his previous ones. I hope CCJ isn't right. And I hope Rice battles to develop and excel. I still believe in our pick. But, the entitled stuff and the "too cool for school" stuff aren't conducive to team play and individual development.

Again, wasn't the blowing of the contest. Listen to the commentators. He didn't even try to practice his dunk. It's the attitude that upsets me. Not the missing. And yeah, I've seen a couple dunk contests in my life. Just a couple.
I just hope CCJ isn't right about his attitude. But, I can see why he has that idea.

Good stuff. We heard similar stuff about Blatche though. Very much hope it's the case. Kid has the toolbox, if he has the mindset.

First post ever... been lurking for years... I dont agree with CCJ on anything really but sadly I feel he may be right about GRJR.. I love the pedigree and the shot and the athleticism.. but I just feel like he's a fraud. And only say the right things in interviews and on camera to get where he wants to be.
I followed him on twitter and if u read all his tweets he just says alot of things that make you wonder (@Muhleakk) is his twitter name.. Here's his profile line "A jumpshot can get you a shoe deal, Super Model, big house, fancy cars, bunch of Yes Men & a swiss bank account, but none of these things can get you a jumpshot"
He calls people gay on twitter swears alot talking about smoking and getting head from girls betting money on the finals.. going back and forth with someone about fighting them etc etc.. I tweeted him (like he cares) to fall back and watch what he says on there.. but idk about him being a young black man myself I root for any young black athlete on a dc team... but this just doesn't seem like it'll end well
Maybe a bad relationship with GRSR? "My dad is just there. Never does anything for me, he's just there, it's kinda irrelevant bc he pisses me off half the time"
"One day my mom will never have to struggle again"
If he wasnt a Wizard I wouldnt care I just dont want anymore youngs/mcgees/blatches/arenas ever again

Re: Glen Rice Jr.
The great thing about Rice is that he's a 2nd round pick. And he knows that. He's expendable for the next 3 years if he chooses to act up or revisit his immaturity.
That said, I think it's a worthy gamble. He's got legit NBA talent and unlike many 2nd rounders, he's got a legit shot of being a quality rotation player for a long time.

Wolters is very likely better than Price. Rice was not worth passing over a better player, better fit, and a person with MUCH better character.

Wittman's going to love this kid. This is a guy you trade two superior 4-yr NCAA players for.
Ernie Grunfeld should be remembered for the rest of Wolters' non-Wizards career.

This is a test for EG and TL. Someone needs to quickly sit down with this kid and publicly demonstrate to him that he is an ignorant fool and should keep his mouth shut for the next couple of years. My son's seventeen year old high school cage fighting friend would be happy to administer the non-thug message that respect is earned in the ring, not on twitter.

Eh. Players commonly treat twitter as if were the same as the locker room. Not a permanent resume for all future employers. Seems stupid to me having a twitter account in the first place. Never understood the appeal, but then I'm on here instead I guess. But yeah he's a young dude, not a saint. Still room to mature.
Thought this was funny though, as he was losing money having bet against MIami:

Exactly this.
This...
Coach Randy Wittman has been adamant about having a locker room free of drama and malcontents, and he felt that was accomplished when Jordan Crawford was traded to the Boston Celtics in February.
That shouldn't be a problem based on Nurse’s experience. Rice was responsible and a consummate professional who showed leadership qualities.
“Obviously with some of the things that happened at Georgia Tech that was a concern, but he's a really likable kid. Our players really liked him. He's an intelligent kid, a hard-working kid. All of those things are a good start,” he said. “We didn't have any issues with him off the floor, never even heard whispers or rumors of anything off the floor. Never saw him on the road coming in late or any of that kind of stuff.
“We just tried to spell it out for him that he needed to keep his head down and let his play do his talking. That was it. He really did a good job with that. I've been in this league six years and I haven't seen too many rookies who have been that patient and just kept on working and put up those kind of numbers when they got that opportunity. It was a pretty impressive run by him. He's not a shy kid or a quiet kid, that's for sure. He's smart and kind of funny. Our players really liked him. He was kind of a focal point of our team, the kind of guy people gravitated to.”

Thanks for the info freckle...and welcome. If that's the kind of stuff GRJr is tweeting about he needs to shut up and shut it down. I'm betting that someone is in his ear right now letting him know it's time to grow up...letting him know that his comments/tweets are going to be under more scrutiny than he ever thought possible.
The kid may indeed be a major challenge for EG, Witt and the old heads on the squad who will need to teach him how to be a pro both on and off the court. But, hey, I'm rooting for the youngin' and it all might be worth it if Rice turns out to be the kind of b'ball player he seems capable of becoming.

Note -- All future assistant coaches, don't speak around this kid, particularly after he signs his first real contract. He's going to play nice until then is my prediction. See below.

Might have something to do with those undisclosed team suspensions by two coaches at Ga. Tech, his temper.

I've come across kids like that. Stuck on stupid sounds cruel, but it applies to his attitude toward learning or fulfilling the part of his scholarship that required him to be a student athlete.

He can turn his nice on and off by playing nice. He did a great job in D-League. Fans are just happy he's got a jump shot but I like to read the tea leaves. Sounds every bit the diva to me.

Didn't he pick the school? Hate's a strong word. How did it come to that if he's such a good player and student athlete?
This is pretty much why I started posting about the pick. Confirms much of what I thought from the beginning. Character issues like these are NOT merely matters of maturity IMO. This guy is 22 and was over 20 when posting all of the above.
This guy has an attitude problem and a court case.
Should not have traded for him in the first place.
