As a true independent I can't say how happy I am to be in neither of those categories.

Why not just say you're a conservative instead of hiding behind a label of "independent"?

no way brah, i just cant go for that. no siree bob. uh uh. No can do. my vote means too too much to me, brah. Vote is not for sale to either libs or conservs. they gotta earn my midwestern, hard working, self employed vote. right now I am diggin the GOP/Trump platform. so they got my support for now.

Getting paid to say certain things...like i dunno...it just might make one question the credibility. maaaaaaaaybe? yeah i'm pretty pretty prety pretty sure it might even raise some liberal eyebrows.

by the way. did you guys see this? some socialist far left wing wack job attacked Rand Paul while he was cutting his grass. Libs have gone fully unhinged. so angry. so mean. causing violence everywhere and anywhere. attacking private property all over the UNited states for the last 5-6 years. crazy trend going on. all in the name of the resistance, i guess?

Re Rand Paul, he was attacked by his neighbor in their well-to-do gated community. There was initially implications that it was over a property line dispute, but now neither side appears to be offering any explanation at all, which leads me to believe a different kind of property may be involved.

Do you get your news solely from Breitbart, Fox and fantasy worlds? Trying to understand your knowledge and facts gap.

You support the GOP/Trump platform and you get your information from conservative, in some cases very conservative, sources. You know what they call that? Being a conservative. Yet for some reason, you have to reason your conservative views to others as being "independent". It's nearly as eye-rolling as closet racists excusing their words or actions by telling everyone "I'm not racist, my best friend is black." I mean, it's certainly possible at one time you were someone like Tom Coyne, a liberal and then an independent, but finally made a full jump to being a conservative, particularly when Trump came along. In the end though, you both are conservatives.

Anyone that tried to reason Trump's words (immediate or his mulligan speech) after Charlottesville has lost credibility with me. Funny thing, I guess I'm not at all into the whole tiki torch wielding, anti-Semitic chanting, firearm carrying, American death supporting Nazis and people who equate those Nazis to...people who hate tiki torch wielding, anti-Semitic chanting, firearm carrying, American death supporting Nazis.

yeah, i noticed that too. Was Rand Paul literally or figuratively mowing the bushes of his neighbor? news story just died. and rand Paul fanboy Shep Smith did a full story on the story just dying.

To me, Rand Paul is just another high-tailing, show boating, obstructionist republican like Mccain so i'm gonna have to laugh a little if there is "more there" to this one.

You guys dont even have a picture of yourselves in a downtrodden part of the world holding up a baby. me, i really did and do regularly write off $350K. Go back and read his post again.

There were other things in his response.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

LOL at saying you'd tax the hell out of anyone making over $20 million on one page, then applauding Trump's tax cuts for the rich like two pages later.

This made me sad:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/11/opinion/sunday/interracial-friendship-donald-trump.html

Basically, he is saying that he has lumped all white people together. I get it - and from his perspective I understand where he is coming from - and don't blame him one bit.

On the other hand, I think this is going to be difficult going forward as there are more and more single issue voters.

What if Trump wasn't a raving lunatic and serial liar but didn't do like Reagan, Bush I & Bush II and blast White Extremists. But he/she was dead-on all the other issues. (okay, very hard to imagine :))

Just like the writer who seems to be a single issue voter - there could be another voter who is a single issue voter (example abortion). Does a white person that doesn't believe in abortion immediately not trust anyone of color (since they vote overwhelmingly D).

It just seems like the Venn diagrams aren't aligning well as far as people trusting each other and co-existing.

I;m not lumping ALL white people together but as a minority I totally get where he's coming from.

It's a feeling of betrayal....
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/11/opinion/sunday/interracial-friendship-donald-trump.html
Barack Obama’s farewell address encouraged us to reach across partisan lines. But there is a difference between disagreeing over taxes and negotiating one’s place in America, the bodies of your children, your humanity. Our racial wound has undone love and families, and ignoring the depths of the gash will not cause it to heal.

We can still all pretend we are friends. If meaningful civic friendship is impossible, we can make do with mere civility — sharing drinks and watching the game. Indeed, even in Donald Trump’s America, I have not given up on being friends with all white people. My bi-ethnic wife, my most trusted friend, understands she is seen as a white woman, even though her brother and father are not. Among my dearest friends, the wedding party and children’s godparents variety, many are white. But these are the friends who have marched in protest, rushed to airports to protest the president’s travel ban, people who have shared the risks required by strength and decency.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.
