The evil genius of MAGA politicians, is that they serve a constituency that can be relied upon to vote for them, even when they are being kicked in the teeth by “their” own Representatives, they embrace harmful policies, to be in a club that hates the same people they do.

Also, it's only Medicaid for now.

Russel Vought has made it very clear that while he wouldn't touch those programs now. Cuts to social security and medicare are merely on the back burner.

doclinkin wrote:Meh. I consistently welcome opposing opinions and learn a great deal from this thread -- yourself, da1andonly, a few others --and even when I disagree it forces me to do the research and come back with receipts. I agree there are pointless insults flung about, but don't beat up monte about it since the tone was established in this thread by pine early on that we allow for a bit more rough and tumble conversation here than in other threads. We are going to disagree, sometimes heatedly, about things that actually matter. Basketball pretty much doesn't, unless you're in the sports industry. I personally find it somewhat absurd that people who support a party and particularly a president, who regularly breaks the norms of polite discourse, get their actual feelings hurt when they bump into an off color word. Still, I think it doesn't help the debate, just shuts it off. I'd rather fight it out. But then I'm the guy who started the insults and trolling thread.

As for the value of the thread. Personally I appreciate the insiders look at the local industry. There are plenty of ways to distract ourselves with the 'bread and circus' of sports etc, but few places where you can hear from people who are a couple degrees of separation away from decision makers. I have dozens of other interests, writing, art, etc, that draw my time, especially since I seem to need less sleep than most people, but come back here because of the brainy discourse, whether on sports or policy. Seems dumb to read the thread and then say you don't think you should have read it. Shrug.

So. Seems similarly silly to pop in and ask for people to cordially invite you back, then drop an insult on your way out the door. Doesn't really add anything to the conversation. If you have information or an opinion, bring it here. Just don't expect people to always be measured or reasonable in the back and forth. People are pissed. An unelected un vetted trillionaire with red flag conflicts of interests has appointed himself a super cabinet member, without oversight check or balance and is dismantling the concept of governance. If anybody wants to step in here to defend that with facts and links and citations, I'd love to hear it. But don't flinch and be a pantswetter if someone loudly disagrees with you. Just come back with better facts. Or even, maybe, listen and be convinced. Or hell, admit when your party got it wrong. And be willing to do something to fix it.

I appreciate the post but I have no desire to reenter the thread. In fact I'm certain I won't. But highly partisan and personal attacks like "you're a piece of sh$t, and a liar and evil" might dissuade others with differing viewpoints from participating.

It's a shame conservative lurkers are too afraid to come into this thread and confront the evil they've wrought. It's the moral equivalent of leaving a flaming bag of poo on someone's porch and running away giggling, only to have the house catch on fire and kill the family of five living inside it, and then cry that people are being mean and calling for you to be hung by the neck until dead.

Face the responsibility for your evil actions. I dare you. Cowards.

You all need to watch the Trump-Zelensky press conference.

Can't do this for four years...

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Has anyone here been fortunate enough to have a Washington Post subscription? I have been a lifelong subscriber and it's been tough to let it go like so-many have, but it may be time to do it. F Bezos, and F the Oligarchs.

My gf and I have been working on a move since election night.

My advice: Get out as soon as you're able. At least for a few years. :(

I canceled mine when Bezos nixed the Harris endorsement.

My mother did the same.

This was a little funnier than his usual, but you're routinely funnier than anything I've ever seen from Shapiro. I feel for Jewish people in MAGA, desperately trying to ignore the fact that MAGA openly courts and compliemnts white nationalists, neo-Nazis, AfD, etc. (crying a little tear as I write this). Wonder if Goldberg is MAGA.

Shapiro is the media arm of Mossad. Not even kidding. When Shapiro worked for Breitbart he was openly communicating with his handlers at Mossad. Multiple colleagues of his attest to this.

I would say Trump can't handle the truth, but it's more like he can't handle the truth being openly stated in contradiction to his BS. I wonder if behind the scenes they're setting Vance up as an additional fall guy for his comments triggering that into being a fiasco. No one on the inside is going to call Trump out, but blaming it all on Zelensky may not be enough.

Trump has been openly contradicted by more intelligent world leaders in three successive photo ops, and folks were talking about it on Twixter and Fox, so you know he heard it and he was seething. Something had to give. What part of "We now consecrate the bond of obedience" do they not understand?

I couldn't make it all the way through that press conference. Felt bad for Zelensky having to put up with that nonsense.

'A proper slap down': Russian, world leaders respond to Trump, Zelensky’s tense exchange

Quotes from former Russian president Medvedev:
"The insolent pig finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office."
"How Trump and Vance restrained themselves and didn't punch this scumbag is a miracle of endurance."

Excellent, where are you guys looking to move? I have been following the ExPat movement for years, even before Trump.

We've looked at a number of places but right now we're focusing on Panama.

Specifically a community by the name of Coronado.

It's popular with expats.

I’ve read the WaPo virtually cover to cover for about 55 years. Yesterday after reading Bezos’ edict about the editorial page, with a heavy heart, I cancelled my subscription.
