So you are saying they don't focus on defense? They have some of the slowest defenders in the league in Jamison, Songaila, an aging Daniels, a broken down Stevenson and Butler, (poor def player in Arenas when he plays) so what do they do? Pack the middle and force teams to shoot from the perimeter. I don't totally agree with that philosophy, but they at least they have a plan which is headed by Ayres (who does only get credit when things go well).
Would you have those guys defend a quicker Philly team straight up? They would get around them like they are standing still so force them to shoot jumpers and don't get into a running game with them. This is the worst three-point shooting team in the league. I have more problems with that philosophy against good shooting teams, but tonight, I understand what they did..and it worked.
Hard to argue with that given the players we play and their health.
I think if we were healthy is would be a different.
We are moving in the right direction though. Once AB is a little better across the board and NY and DMAC expand their games, then we will have more young fresh legs to play D.
We have a lot of talent on this team but like you said, AD, AJ, and Songaila just aren't quick players in the mold of Phi players. But we are a pretty strong team. We should power people more.
Now if GA could learn to be a shut down defender, that would change a lot. Then you could have 2 strong guards who can defend and disrupt the other teams offense. It always comes back to GA. He is the one player on this team who can change it the most. We know he can score. Now if he has passing PG skills and strong D, everything about this team changes.
