I also don't think there will be a trade before the deadline. However, that doesn't bother me. I can understand EG wanting to know what pick he has before making any trades. However, if the Wizards don't make some moves this summer after they know their pick, I'm not going to be happy.

And please explain why you wouldn't believe that last line.

I think it becomes a convenient excuse to play the Abe "won't let EG do anything card". If EG is that hamstrung, he must not have the trust and confidence of Abe to do his job. I can certainly see where Abe would say he would not want to trade Jamison or Butler but it's up to Grunfeld to tell him this is what we need to do if we want to be the team we are trying to build.

That's actually a great idea. We should get every Wizards fan -- man, woman and child -- to bring all of their spare change down to the VC. We'll load it on to trucks and send it to Phoenix. How could Sarver say no to this? We know he's cash-strapped.

I can just see the headline "Stoudamire dealt to Wizards for Jamison, Six Trucks Filled with Change"

You could get elected President with all that change. Or Mayor of DC - especially after pulling off that trade.

14 pages, and some still want EG out. I would have thought that 14 pages would have been enough to otherwise convince those folks.

The marriage between EG and EJ was a shotgun wedding, with Abe looking on as the godfather trying to keep the peace. EJ wanted to play a certain style...something that looked like the Princeton O and a defensive scheme that has no name with which to identify it (Crybaby was once at a loss for words when trying to describe the defensive scheme used by the Wiz). Its right to point out that defense was our major problem, but I dont think its EG's fault. The right defensive scheme could have made this bunch an average to above average defensive team. What more can EG do? Perhaps he should do the coaches job and dictate the defensive schemes...? You see, it normally works like this...the GM hires a coach. Its usually someone that the GM thinks he can work with, someone who is a good fit for the organization, someone who has some idea of what O and D he would like to run. Thats right, the coach dictates the type of O and D he wants to run. The GM gets the players that best suits that style of play. If the coach has no idea what type of D he want to run, how can the GM help you? He probably cant, other than hire a defensive coach. He tried to bring in the right defensive coach (Thiebs) to get things in the right direction, but we all have some idea what happened there. Just getting some really good defensive players may help...the players natural talent will come through and plays will be made. However, we will not capitalize on all of that players natural defensive talents (and the rest of the teams defensive talents) without a good defensive scheme.

I dont see many arguments stating that EG picked rotten offensive players. Some dont like the way AJ or CB, or GA put points on the board, but they did put point on the board, and they were ideal for the type of O that EJ was running.

I wonder if we'd still be considering if EG should go if this team was an average to above average defensive team, while still putting up the offensive numbers they were putting up.

EG has been good for us. He's got some good players, and made some good deals. He gets to stay.

While I don't expect a trade, I also don't think there's any way possible to get under the luxury tax during the next accounting if a trade is not made before the end of the season.

Rock, meet hard place.

+1

This just bring back flash backs. All the posts about the "big three" and how I hated the idea of ours, about how we needed to feed Haywood the ball more so he could develop and so we would have a post game so we could go inside out, about how we needed to line them up for the best combination of offense and defense instead of just offense because it the team that scores more points then the other team that wins, not the team that score a lot of points.

Posts about how complicated this offense was the learn. Hell, three years into it and I was still hearing how we weren't really running it completely yet. Posts, about how EFJ had no control over GA and his distracting antics and his shoot first with 20 seconds on the clock style. Posts about a coach who had no control over DS and his big month that he couldn't back up. And the 1000 posts about the stupid line ups, rotations and lack of minutes for Haywood and Blatche.

Plus the things we just reviewed. The dysfunctional organization that Abe put in place....again. Owner...coach... GM is not how it is done. Abe..EFJ..EG just like he did Abe..Wes Unseld...Nash. To add to that Abe has had a coach/GM in Unseld and player/VP in MJ.

The problem is at the top. Of all the GMs we have had over the last 30 years, EG is at the top of the list yet people want to get ride of him and roll the dice with Abe doing better.

Head...meet Sand

Seems people would just seem to like the .. lather.. rinse .. repeat ... insanity instead of sticking to a slower more solid course of action.

Look at all the quick fixing the Skins tried to do. And while people will complain about how we didn't draft well or we traded away our picks for vet that never gelled, people also are impatient with the rebuilding process. Well this Wiz org used to do the same thing the Skins have been doing.

But with the Wiz, we at least had a GM and we actually were rebuilding and winning at the same time. For my liking, I think we could have don't a better job of addressing the most pressing need with was developing our post players and a better overall offense and defensive concept with rotations the match it. But that is on the coach, not the GM. We all talked about how EG had to EJ proof the team. It's like people have forgotten this stuff already. It's just, need head on the table mentality.

Hey, given the kind of coaches we had been getting, EFJ was ok for a few years. We needed to stop the bleeding first and I don't think this team could have handled a top notch NBA coach right away nor would one come here. But after about 3 years, this team was ready for something more that EJ. This team did need first and foremost to have some stability and some taste of success.

But at this point, they could handle more. So the question is, can you get a very good to great coach to come coach this bunch ? I would have to think that there would be a lot of coaches interested in coaching this group of talent. And if that is true, EG has done his job. I also believe that even if we kept Tapps, we would be a lot better next year just given the talent we have so if we keep him, we will only look more attractive to other coaches in the future.

This team does not need blown up at all. We should be able to do what we have been doing, win while transitioning and reloading. But the day will come that one of AJ, CB or GA will get moved. I think it will be AJ. So we can move a star player and chance the dynamics of the team. That isn't blowing it up.

Haywood, CB and GA is a solid core to build around if they are used properly. Specially if they are
Center, SF, SG. Plus we have upside players in McGee and Blatche and now hopefully Crit. Adding a vet PG and a seasoned PF would chance a lot. Imagine adding Nash/Kidd and R Wallace. Players who can give you two good years while teaching the younger players and adding to the vet presence. I think this is what CB was getting at.

Haywood, R Wallace, CB, GA, Nash/Kidd
McGee, Blatche, DMAC, NY, Crit

For God sakes. My hatred of Ernie has never been higher than it is right now with a blown deadline. Now, it's only 2:23 PM as I am typing this, but I know he's not doing anything. Does he even have a job? What does he do?

Oh yes he can, he can easily get rid of Jamison. The way things are shaping up the Wiz will not be able to afford the draft pick or Haywood going forward. Who would you rather have? Top five pick + Haywood, or Jamison? Easy, easy answer for me. This team sucks they have sucked for year and will continue to suck, yet blame injuries. EG had an easy out to make up for his egregious mistakes and blew it.

OMG...EG didn't pull the trigger to get rid of jamison? Cleveland is screwed if they get jamison. Jamison will produce just like Gooden did..and be an even worse rebounder. Wow. I can't believe EG didn't saddle bag cleveland with Jamison. This is horrible news. Well it really is time to fire E Fvvvckin' G. And he was doing so well. Now he has saddled bagged us permanently for the next 4 years...all because of what he has refused to do on this important day. WOW.

Looks like the work of Abe and loyalty..forcing his players to live in rundown slumlord apartments of his brother for loyalty..yet abe won't pay the lux tax and make the die hard fans suffer.

Is it conceivable that we could trade the 1st pick (Griffin) for lesser talent just to keep from paying the luxury tax? :(

Not making some kind of move will go down as a missed opportunity by Grunfeld IMO. There were expirings to be had if we were willing to give up a little extra (like Blatche, Young, and our high second round pick) but now we're all but locked in to paying the tax next year. Maybe Abe was counting on paying some sort of tax bill in 2010 but if the rumors of a shrinking cap are true, he's going to have a much larger bill than he anticipated.

And as the economy continues to be uncertain there may not be very many chances to help our situation for 2011 and beyond. If Haywood signs somewhere else in 2010 I think we're going to look back at this deadline and say this was where we blew it.

Maybe the luxury tax is irrelevant because Ted will own the team by then?

I can only hope....

Exactly. I thought there was a rumor last summer that Abe was ready to sell. I think he is holding off for one last run where we make it out of the first round. That would be selling high.

Deside, EG can still make moves over the summer.

Someone has to do a list of starting caliber second round picks in the last decade. I'm fairly certain that you'll find that EG drafted close to 40% of them -- Redd, Blatche, Gadz, Bogans, Flip Murray, etc...

And I love this idea that since we didn't trade AJ now, that two years from now we'll have to let Haywood walk. That may end up being the case. But, you're discounting every possible move that could be made (and there are literally thousands of combos -- including BTW, the possiblity of trading Haywood). Perhaps we bitch about what happens when it does -- versus projecting the worst case, and assuming that will come about. We currently have three guys who can play center. Perhaps we end up trading Haywood and Caron for a superstar. You have no idea.
