Loving Kidd-Gilchrist. I'm thinking Ruz was on the money about him. Love the way he plays on both sides of the ball. Skill level isn't as raw as I thought it was.

And Davis comes up with the block to seal the game. And UNC is so demoralized that they don't even foul at the end to try to extend the game. Amazing.

Man, we need Anthony Davis.

+1. Marshall looked like a floor general out there. Great defender also.

Yeah, if 1 player was the diff, it was Marshall. Teague's a nice player but not a true PG, and the game showed the importance of a pure PG in college bball. Is it a great year for college basketball or what?

Watched the Nevada - Washington game as I wanted to check out Tony Wroten. Here's a quick wrap up.

Ugly game, a lot of turnovers and UW is really young.

Nevada

Deonte Burton - Unstoppable from the pg position. He has a future as a professional but probably not in the NBA. 6'1 scorer.

Olek Czyk - Enjoyed watching him play. He's the Polish hammer as he bangs it on your forehead. Duke transfer who's a James Singleton type of player. He could make an NBA roster as a hustle player who can knock down an open jumper.

Washington

Tony Wroten - When he's dribbling and moving around the court Gary Payton is the first thing that's going to pop into your mind. Lefty who is very strong penetrating to his left. Doesn't command the offense and lacked the confidence I expected from someone with his talent. Was getting abused on defense mostly because he doesn't have awareness yet. His problems on defense come from him being young. He has the quickness, energy, length and instincts to be a great defender. He doesn't start and I agree with that because he's a turnover machine. Wroten isn't ready. Below average jump shooter, needs to develop a floor generals mentality as I would rival his vision to Kendall Marshall's. He's nowhere near Marshalls overall I'Q on the basketball court. I expect Wroten to get better this season as his confidence grows.

Terrence Ross - He's the best athlete I've seen at 2g in the country. He had a play where he got hung on the rim but the play itself was something I'd only expect Dwayne Wade to convert. Good catch and shoot player. Jump shot has elevation and balance. Other than his spot up he relies his entire offensive game on athleticism. He couldn't get past Nevada's defenders off the dribble and when he tried it was a turnover or very awkward. Good rebounder for a guard as he simply out jumps defenders for off. rebounds. Lacks intensity though he has an arrogance about him that gives him confidence but probably hurts him. Because of that I expect him to come out even though he isn't ready. I wouldn't say he shouldn't because he doesn't look like he's going to improve that much where he's at.

C.J. Wilcox - Could be a 1st rounder or he could go undrafted. Prototypical SF, good athlete with a good looking spot up jump shot. Maybe took 1 dribble during possessions. Doesn't fill the lane like he should on the break as he floats to the perimeter. He lives on the perimeter too much. He and Ross lack commitment on the defensive end. Big problem for both.

As the season goes along I can do some more of these. Depends on my schedule but I'll try.

Let's start posting this now enough times that it comes true in the future:

Washington is going to get lucky and win the draft rights to Anthony Davis.

Don't care how it happens, but the Wizards are DUE to be good again, hopefully soon. Orlando guy Shaq followed by Webber/Penny Hardaway. The Wizards missed out on Derrick Williams or Kanter and Valanciunas, but they will be even better with Anthony Davis.

Washington is going to draft Anthony Davis. San Antonio had Robinson when they drafted Duncan. The Wizards are due.

The really good news is even if they don't get Davis, they probably can get Michael Kidd-Gillespie or Brad Beal.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

CCJ - I'm of the opinion that as long as we get a top 7 pick, we will be fine.

Good matchup tonight between Washington and Marquette. Interested to see Terrance Ross and Tony Wroten. Terrance Ross a SG w/range and hops, wroten is a combo guard...one of the few that gave wall problems this summer in pickup ball in washington

It would be great to get him. But if we do, my sincere hope is that we make an improbable jump in the lottery -- up from 11th or something.

Here's why I think it's most important for the Wiz to improve this year. It's not to lure free agents. After Howard, the top three free agents next summer are all PG's (Paul, Williams, Nash) and after that the un-restricted FA crop is really quite thin.

So beyond the draft, I think the Wizard's best opportunity to improve next summer is going to come via trade. We'll have cap room, but we'll need to have assets other teams want. And if we go 18-48, the market for our host of young players is going to be very different than if we jump to 32-34, IMO.

Fish I think the draft is clearly the best opportunity to land a star. Maybe McGee has some decent value around the league but when you start talking about everyone else, your talking mid level prospects with major flaws. Maybe there's some lopsided deal we could do but I don't think the league is going to be in love with our young talent, whether we win 20 or 30 games.

If there was any year to organizationally tank, this abbreviated season with a game changing draft to follow is the year to do it.

Screw the 2011-12 season, I'm thinking 12-13 and beyond.

This will work itself out organically. If the roster sucks we'll lose a lot and get a high lotto position. If our record improves a lot, some of our "mid level prospects with major flaws" will have taken big steps forward and either be building blocks for us or great trade pieces. Just remember that even the worst record in the league has a 75% chance of not landing the #1 overall pick. You simply can't plan for it.

Tanking is done at the GM/ownership level -- Flip is going to try to win every game, as well he should. Given that Ernie has announced that they're not going after anyone major as a FA, you can assume that that Ernie/Ted aren't in any rush to try to make the playoffs this year.

That's a one-way ticket to Indiana Pacer land. Let's be honest. We know what this team has & doesn't have. It has John Wall & 14 questionmarks. Javale is really the only other guy on the roster capable of being a real building block and his b-ball IQ and overall immaturity probably limit the chances of him blowing up. Even if Blatche takes a big step forward, no one in the NBA is going to buy it. Outside of that your talking Booker, Singleton, Crawford, Vesely, Seraphin, etc.. (I.E. the makings of a good bench in 3 years). That's not going to land us a star no matter how much they improve.

And it's not just about landing the #1 pick, it's about positioning yourself to have a very high pick in a very strong draft. A high pick in next year's draft would immediately become the Wizards 2nd best asset and IMO it's the only realistic way to add game changing talent. Anything else is a pipe dream or a one way trip to mediocrity.

+1. You could also call it Cleveland Cavalier land. After they got LeDouche, you can even say they got too good too fast, and they were never able to properly rebuild and become a truly great team. I hear a lot of people say that we need to be good this year so we don't frustrate John Wall and make him leave when his contract expires, but do you think that he would resign with a team that will be in contention for the playoffs every year but will get booted out in the 1st round every year? That's mediocrity, and he would probably want to leave for greener pastures.

So what exactly are you proposing? What does "tanking" look like to you? Should we sit Wall a few weeks at a time?

Thoughts on Brad Beal 9 games into his career:

He's average 16 a game on 47% shooting, but only 31% from 3. This from a kid compared heavily to Ray Allen. I'd expect that go increase sharply as he gets comfortable.

On the plus side, he's rebounding surprisingly well -- a whopping 7.0 per game. He's got some long arms and good court sense.

I've seen him ball-watching on D a little bit and lose his man, but his man D seems pretty solid.

Off to watch him in OT vs. Arizona.

Of course tanking is an organizational decision. Flip is not going to tank, the players are not going to tank.

Personally I think the organization might be doing a fine job without purposely tanking because Ernie is a **** of a GM anyways.

Adding a few free agents like Roger Mason certainly helps in the tanking process, lol.

I don't think we need to tank. Just play the kids, let them develop. If they win more games than projected, fine, if they don't fine, but at least the kids got to play. It'd be great to get Anthony Davis, but if we get a high pick anyway, we will be fine guys, lol. This draft is 10-11 deep.

Honestly, I see Bobcats, Toronto, Cavs, Hornets (when they trade CP3), and Minny (Clips own the pick) as being asuredly worse than the Wiz this year (IMO, the first three are locks IMO). Its going to be very hard to tank once you look at the Bobcats roster. Its hard to tank once you look at Cleveland's roster. I doubt we'll finish in the top 5 worst.

Also remember Boston will have a lottery pick as well.

Still, we finish 6th or worse, per NBADraft.net's mock draft, Terrence Jones, Brad Beal, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Thomas Robinson, John Henson all would be available.
