Well, there's still the exciting "Cartier Martin vs. Mo Evans" debate....

Now that the Wizards are over the cap, can they use the MLE---and then amnesty Blatche?

Yes. And not necessarily in that order.

After picking up Okafor and Ariza, I think we all know what's coming next: entire MLE deal for Jeff Green.

From various reports, Boston's willing to offer above the MLE for Green's services.
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

That's genuinely the best Wizards news I've heard in awhile.

That's a formality. Portland must extend the QO in order to retain RFA rights to match other offers. Batum hasn't actually signed for the QO (a la Nick Young).

Brandon Rush just got the QO got the Warriors, meaning he's now a RFA. Word is that they have expressed their intent on keeping him. It will be interesting to see how many of the youngish, cheapish "3 and D" wings actually end up being "available."

Re: Summer 2012 Free Agents Thread - Part II
Okay, our current roster is as follows:
PG Wall
SG Beal, Crawford
SF Ariza, Singleton
PF Nene, Booker, Vesely
C Okafor, Seraphin
That's 10 players under contract, with only one obvious hole at backup PG. What free agents are we going to target to fill out the roster? I figure we're going to go with a 14-man roster, leaving the 15th slot open for a midseason acquisition if necessary. So that means we could sign 4 free agents.
We definitely need another PG. Do we go with Mack or a veteran? Or both? We could probably use another shooter, preferably one who can spend some time at SF. Cartier Martin seems like the best option there if we're only considering a vet minimum contract. Do we also look for a "stretch 4"? James Singleton would be nice but I'm thinking he'd rather play somewhere where he isn't the 6th big.

I hope they target Meeks/ Singleton/ and Cartier. How much do we have to spend assuming they amnesty Dray?

I don't see a lot to Mack, but no reason not to keep him. But I'd like to see them sign an older vet who can settle everybody down when Wall gets too jumpy--and ideally be able to shoot, too. Would Terry come to DC for a 1-year MLE deal? Seems unlikely.

Can't imagine anywhere near enough to sign Meeks.

Amnestying Dray is irrelevant. Whether we do or don't, we won't have any more room than the MLE. Also, next year, we will flirt with the luxtax threshold unless we amnesty Dray.
Basically, we won't spend more than a couple of million on any long term contracts. Our long term cap situation looks like this:
Code: Select all

Re: Summer 2012 Free Agents Thread - Part II
Beal notwithstanding, we still have about the most unbalanced roster in the league.
Where are the friggin shooters? How are we going to space the floor to take advantage of Wall's unique traits?
I give up. Why, I might even go so far as to... to... to go to bed for the night and stop posting.
Good night my friends. Thanks for making this ridiculous, lifelong obsession of mine fun and worthwhile.
