When I say Washington, I don't mean the city. I mean the political capital.

I don't buy this at all. Trump specifically said he's not cutting Medicare and Social Security. Whether one believes in "reforming" these programs, or not, it's a sure political loser.

"Trump team" doesn't necessarily mean Trump himself.

And let's be honest. It's not like Trump is beyond lying.....

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

He could do the politically easy thing and increase spending on SS and Medicare. It would bankrupt us later - but he could be really popular now. I could see that too.

Really no such thing as lies these days. Just alternate truths, and the media to support them.
I think Trump will ignore the deficit for at least 2 years and focus on US job creation/retention:
Big tax cuts
Reduce regulation (whatever that means)
Try to promote coal and other fossil fuels
Try to bully US corps from moving jobs out of the country, and stopping off-shoring companies
Infrastructure spending
Trying to undo NAFTA
More defense spending

If successful in getting all this, deficits will be huge, but I don't think he cares. Will just come up with alternate truths to justify.

A sad day for the American political landscape, but it's okay. Trump only has four years to do his damage before progressives come in in 2020 and clean up the cesspool in Washington.

Umm. Progressives have been running DC for years. in 2008 Obama had the presidency and both houses. The bureaucracy is clearly progressive (96% of DC residents voted for the Democrat candidate). If it takes a progressive to "clean up the cesspool", why hasn't it happened yet?

Obama had two freaking years with both Houses...so let's not act like he had a lot of time to turn things around. But fortunately, he did manage to bailout the auto industry, pass healthcare reform legislation (which US Presidents had talked about doing for more than half a century) and begin to clean up the economic mess that the Bush Administration left behind.

That's quite a record of accomplishment given that he had only two years before the Republican obstructionist took over both House of Congress.

Not sure that DC residents who voted for the Dems represent the "bureacracy." I'm guessing that the majority of so-called bureaucrats don't even live in the District.

GTN...he's definitely going to put us into an even bigger deficit with the the HUGE tax breaks he's giving to the rich.

It's what the stupid tax-cutting presidents like Reagan and Bush do...run up huge deficits, and then the democratic president has to come in and clean up the mess.

Trump boasted that his inauguration turnout would be "record-setting." Well, he's not going to like these photos. He'll probably claim they're "rigged."

The top photo is Obama's inauguration at approximately 11am on Jan. 20, 2009. The bottom photo is Trump's inauguration about the same time on Jan. 20, 2017.

Trump's turnout maybe indeed be record-setting. It may set the record of having the lowest inauguration turnout in the modern era.

What's even more amazing, while we had nice temps in DC today, the true Obama "record-setting" turnout took place on a day with temps well below freezing.

I didn't like his stimulus, I think it was wasted. He could have "saved" the auto industry by simply fast-tracking bankruptcy, the ACA is soooo convoluted that no one understands it... and the "economic mess" was created by both Ds and Rs. Although he shouldn't take all of the blame, some of the blame for losing the senate, house and many governorships goes to him as well.

I guess I live in an alternate universe too :)

dckings, you're perfectly entitled to feel the way you do about the stimulus, Obamacare and the auto bailout. I just happen to think you're dead wrong on all accounts. :)

In either case, there's no disputing that the country--and the American auto industry--is in a much better place economically today than it was when Obama took office in 2009.

I would at least like to see the plan before I comment. There are stupid tax increases that have to be rolled back by R presidents as well (and JFK too).

Yup...and the petulant Donald is going to have a hissy/twitter-fit tomorrow when the Women's March draws more people than his inauguration.

The ex-president can take those memories with him into retirement. I'm looking forward to the massive shakeup which started today.

No more PC, no more ladies bathroom talk, discussions about actual problems which impact my bottom line.
