The starting Center and PF for the Wizards last year ..... Kristaps Porzingis and Daniel Gafford meeting and starting for their teams in the NBA FINALS.
Some fans will appreciate this but I saw alot of bashing here on both these guy when they played for the Wiz. I still stand by what I said many times they got rid of WUJ way too late ,he was a terrible coach and they "cheaped " out pushing Montae Morris as the PG.
Gaff is really protecting the rim and KP has protected the rim all year long ,this will be an exciting matchup in these finals.

Always nice to see you check back in, tleikheen, to let the world know how right you are about everything.

I suppose your 100% correctness doesn't stop with basketball, does it? You're right about pretty much anything that comes out of your mouth I'm sure. Must be why you sit alone at the little back table of the local convenience store....

I don't recall anyone bashing either of these guys. They were both well-liked.

Porzingis was the best player on our team. That's why we sucked.

He is the 3rd or maybe 4th best player on Boston. That's why they're good.

KP also had a better season for the Celtics than his one full year with us. Not a huge difference -- but not insignificant either.

One of the keys to the Celtics success is their outstanding corps of home-developed role players. Queta, Kornet, Brissett, Pritchard, Hauser, Tillman, & Mykhailiuk combined for 5645 minutes -- almost 30% of all the minutes the team played -- & overall they were just terrific. I doubt you would be able to find that kind of bench productivity on many other teams.

Pritchard has been very good.

Hauser benefits from a system where he doesn't have to do anything on offense except shoot assisted catch-and-shoot 3's. A whopping 83.3% of his shot attempts are 3's, and 97.5% of those are assisted! I mean, sure, the numbers are great and he should be commended for it; but don't know how portable those numbers are. Most teams don't have the spacing to give a 42% 3-point shooter over 9 assisted 3PA's per 36 minutes.

The rest of those guys have played almost exclusively in garbage time against garbage time opponents (the Celtics have played a lot of garbage time). I wouldn't read to much into those numbers.

All good points, of course.
You'd think that if a guy was making 3's in volume at a 42.5% clip... someone would guard him! :)

In any case, I didn't mean to suggest anything more than that their subs ("garbage time" players) are better than other teams' subs.

Gil opening up about the end of his career (I forgot he went to Memphis) and how a call from John Wall re-ignited his love for the game.

I guess Tommy Sheppard counts as an 'ex-Wizard," right?
Here's an interesting interview with Tommy from this year -- https://apuedge.com/voices-in-the-field-tommy-sheppard/

It's always sad to watch stars decline. It's even worse with the John Wall prototype - the guys who lack the shooting and defense to be useful low usage role players as they age. When your only comfortable role is as a high-usage on-ball creator, you go from "star" to "useless" pretty quick as soon as your efficiency drops below NBA average.

You may get one or two seasons as a bench unit spark plug, but that's it. And usually, teams would rather put a young prospect in that role rather than an aging vet.

Congratulations to Moe, he busted his ass and carved out a roll for himself.
The Orlando Magic have declined their $8 million team option on Moe Wagner for the 24-25 season. Wagner and the Magic each have interest in discussing a new contract in free agency. The Magic plan to utilize their cap space in the offseason on the open market.

In 80 games last season, Wagner averaged 10.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 17.7 minute

Mo's advanced numbers are actually incredible. If he played just 85 more minutes to meet the minutes cutoff, he would rank 49th in the league in BPM, 26th in the league in PER, and 16th in WS/48. Per 36, he posted 22.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists on a .676 TS%. :o

Garrett Temple to return to Raptors: Source

A team source confirms the Raptors have agreed to terms with Garrett Temple, who will enter his 15th season at age 38. ESPN first reported the deal.

Temple will be one of the oldest players in the league, behind only LeBron James, P.J. Tucker and a handful of other players (including Kyle Lowry) who have yet to sign deals for next season.
