I'm sticking to my guns Gilbert lent me. Bring back Randy on a one year deal.
Not only do I think he is the right coach for this team at this time, but I like listening to him in post games. After this game, he was giving the players all the credit but it didnt lower the bar, he is still setting goals for them to reach. Reminds me of how JG round one gave a post game interview.

They say Scott Skiles on the hot seat if he is gone there should we go after him?

As much as like Skiles' preaching and teaching of defense, he seems to wear thin on his players. No thanks to Scotty.

Randy coming back means Ernie is back. Neither will come back on a 1 year deal.

Coming across like you have some authority and certainty about something like that does not make it so.
I would tend to agree that Randy would not likely be offered the HC job if there was a new GM.
They could extend EG for another year or two. I'm pretty sure a deal like that could get done. And if EG is extended, they can sign Randy for a year. I see no reason to think that wouldn't be doable. Unless he has teams lining up to give him a HC job, I think he would jump at the opportunity to come back one more year so they can get a better look at him with this group.
Something about Randy and this group just feel right. I think if they replace him they will have missed an opportunity.

A key element will be perception from the FO of where the group is at regarding Wittman, and what is the dynamic. It is clear that Seraphin and Nene for example love this coach. What is the situation with Wall ? The team seems to be setting in a new dynamic. If the players credit the coach for that, than there is a strong case for bringing him back for one year.

there is a certain "25% win percentage" feel about our team.
seriously guys... yes we've been playing well as of late but that's because of crawford's unsustainably spectacular shooting. the only times we win are aginst trash teams, when teams are missing their superstars, or when crawford shoots 60% from the field. and that one lakers game where kobe went 9-31.
we're 2nd worst in the league in offensive rating and 6th worst in defensive rating. we've got the 2nd worst record in the league, and is 14-31 under wittman which translates to a 25-win team in an 82 game season. i don't think there's any lightning in a bottle for us to catch here. i was more hopeful for blatche's 10 game run in april 2010 than whatever modicum of success we're experiencing right now.

Some authority? I'm just using common sense. Can you give me any examples of a new gm coming in to an organization and hiring the previous interim coach on a 1 year deal? A new gm might make the decision to keep Randy (unlikely but possible) but it would be on more than a 1-year deal...

Here is our offensive efficiency, defensive efficiency and point differential per 100 possessions:
Code: Select all
Condition Pace OffEff DefEff Diff
Nene Playing 92.3 103.0 97.3 +5.7
After Trade 93.0 99.7 101.9 -2.2
Before Trade 95.8 97.9 106.9 -9.0 Ignore the NY debocle, and it looks like this:
Code: Select all
Condition Pace OffEff DefEff Diff
Nene Playing 92.3 103.0 97.3 +5.7
After Trade 92.9 101.2 101.5 -0.3
Before Trade 95.8 97.9 106.9 -9.0 I think there is reason to believe we will be a pretty decent ball club next year. Even without Nene, our point differential suggests we can play close to .500 basketball. Add Nene, a high draft pick, a healthy Booker, and some more development for Wall, Vesely and Seraphin; and we might surprise a lot of people next year.

spoke a bit with Wittman last night too.
I would be surprised if he's here next year not because of anything he said.
He was really personable as well(the other players and coaches).
It's funny. I had just come from the table where
Nene and Seraphin were together and I asked those 2 about how they felt about
playing together. Nene just said NO. I thought he might be joking so when I saw
Wittman a little while later I asked him and he said: 1. he's already put them on the
floor together. 2. Nene was joking.

I wonder what influence Wall and Nene will have. Will they interview the players and see what they have to say about it ? Who would do that since EG is no sure thing to return ?
Unlike with Flip, I don't get the sense that there is an disconnect between what Randy is doing and the players. Actually it feel kind of the opposite. That is in part because Randy has a different style about him and that is in part because McGee and Nick are gone replaced by Nene, Cook, and James Singleton.
Just wondering what the process is like.

Re: Who should be the next coach of the Washington Wizards?
Thanks for posing the numbers Nate.
Seems pretty clear from the that.
The past is important as a data point to highlight the change that has happened. More important is looking at the now and the future. The past is over.
Give some credit where credit is do. For a rebuilding team, things are looking pretty good for just the second year of a total rebuild and a short season with no summer camp for a team that started the year as mostly rookies and second year players. Basically the blind leading the blind.
Honestly, how much farther along could someone really expect them to be then were they are. Forget about the total record. That is the past. Remember, they designed this tank year on purpose to get another high pick which is on the way. That was the plan before the season started.
This is what we started with.
21, 21, 21, 22, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and all that team had to balance it out on the floor was 1 player. Mason at 31 who didnt even start to really play until recently. Of that list now gone was the ever mature Nick
at 26 and McGee
24. Those were two of your older players. And Dray at 25. Those are three players that come on board through the infectious Gil era. They were contaminated and later amputated. Except Dray who is in the decontamination chamber.
Now look at the assets and top 5 pick on the way. This team does not suck when Nene (29) is healthy and when they have players like James Singleton (30) to fill out the roster. Mo (33) finally playing adds another vet and he and Singleton (30) add much needed shooting range. Martin is another one and he is (27). Almond is another mature player with shooting range. He is (27). Even Cook plays a roll (31) and he can bump and even hit a 3. The team just added a lot more shooters and maturity. The two things they didn't have to start the year.
They have added or activated 6 players who are 27, 27, 29, 30, 31, and 33
Removing Nick and McGee ( who both started ) and adding all those mature players has greatly changed the composition of this team from the kiddy group it was the start the season. And even now they are still starting three rookies and two second year players until the tank is in or Nene can start again. And that team just beat MIL in who is in the playoff hunt.
Just trying to add some reality to the picture here.
I so want them to play well again and take down Miami. That will help drive home how much this team has changed.

Don't worry guys, once we get blown out again by the Heat this week, hands will come to his senses.

6 flags - 1 of the bene's of being a plan holder is you get this big party at 6 Flags.
The players are spread around the park giving autographs and many rides are open
with pretty short lines. Throw in a little free food and you got a happy wizards family.
I saw all the coaches, exc Wittman, together when we first got there. I started to
walk past them then I decided to just say hello and tell them thanks for the work
they had put in with the players (even though I know that's their job). Gene Banks,
Don Z, Flip's son and one other guy (scout, name?). They were really nice too.

What did I post that didn't make any sense to you ? The ages of the team. The trade ? The fact that they have more shooting and maturity now ?

the part where singleton and brian cook's leadership is going to carry us to a win over a miami squad that's trying to overtake the #1 seed as well as generate momentum into a championship push to show how far we've come this season.
