So yep, let's bring in Mike Scott. Maybe I'll go watch an old episode of The Office, for old time's sake.

Even if Bynum had a marginal chance of getting his health sorted, it never would have happened in DC.

Great deal, he'll look great sitting at the end of the Cleveland bench in civilian clothing.

Bynum is an awesome trade for the Cavs. All they're missing is a SF and they'll go for LBJ next offseason. Nobody in the league would beat Irving/Waiters/James/Bennett/Bynum. The only chance the Wiz have is to make a play at Cousins or Monroe when Okafor's contract runs out and trade Nene for maybe a good, younger PF on a more manageable contract and maybe a bench player. I think the backcourts of these two teams already hint at an awesome rivalry, but if we can strengthen our C and PF spots then it really evens up and if possible, both teams are young enough to stick together for a while and it'll make the West look so goddamn old, slow and backwards.

Great move by Cleveland. He might end up being useless, but if he's healthy and in shape, he's one of the top bigs in the game. And they limited their losses. Their roster would look a lot more balanced if they had picked Porter instead of Bennett - unless Bennett fools most of us and can play the 3 well.

So, Milwaukee is basically using Ridnour as their fallback if Atlanta matches their offer sheet for Teague. Bucks fans appreciate Ridnour as a backup, but they're not going to be happy if he's their starting PG... or if Wolters wins the starting job. If all else fails, they have Ish Smith - who if I remember correctly was Teague's backup at Wake Forest. If Atlanta matches, there's talk that Milwaukee uses their money to sign Kirilenko.

Mavs looking into Oden. Dang, getting desperate.

I'd trade them Okafor but they don't really have much to offer. I don't know what would work.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I think the Mavs Plan C(or D, E whichever one they are on) includes bringing back Beaubois and Brand. Adding them to a healthy Oden, and it looks like they might be a play-off team.

They probably overpay for 1 year to keep Beaubois and Brand, but I think they have Bird Rights on both. I think the reason nothing has happened yet with either is they have small cap holds.

And it's a lotto ticket if he doesn't get on the court- the draft lotto that is. Maybe going into the 2012-13 season and draft you could say they'd be crazy filling their roster with a bunch of injuries that may or may not heal this year.

But going into the 2014 draft- maybe not so crazy.

Looking at what other teams in the East did like Cleveland, Atlanta & Milwaukee makes me wonder if the Wizards are really a lock like some folks are saying they are. The depth in the front court and at PG worries me. I think all things being equal (read: health), the Wizards would make the playoffs but that turns out never to be the case.

For anyone who thinks the Zards are a lock for the playoffs, I have some nice warm beachfront property in New Orleans for sale.

I'm not sure if it's a good deal or not. Wojo words it like this:
Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Bynum's deal will include $12 million in guaranteed money over two seasons and $6 million in Year 1. The Cavaliers hold an option for Year 2 worth $12.5 million.

So it's $6M in Year 1 and a $12.5M option in Year 2. But since it's guaranteed for $12M over the course of 2 years, it sounds to me like there's a $6M buyout for Year 2.

Is that such a great contract? It's locking in a $6M cap hit next year even if he never gets healthy and plays well again.

I haven't seen that elsewhere, but if that's the case it changes things a lot. If sports history tells us anything, this won't work out well for the Cavs. You think we have angst as Wizards fans? This is the city that has endured, The Drive, The Fumble, Jose Mesa, Art Modell, and The Decision. Nothing works out for Cleveland and their fans are more tortured than you could possibly realize. I have a good friend who is a Cavs fan who couldn't bring himself to watch a minute of these most recent Finals -- can you even imagine that?

I do like that this sets the stage for a renewal of the rivalry between the Wizarda and the Cavs. But unlike many of our favorite chicken littles, I don't see a clear advantage for Cleveland.

Irving has been better than Wall so far, but Wall has shown more upside. His best is better than Irving's because he's a much better distributor and a much, much more willing and disruptive defender.

I'd take Beal over Waiters by a significant margin. And while I was impressed by the Jarrett Jack signing, Mike Prada's excellent breakdownhas given me a healthy amount of pause as to its wisdom.

I think today I'd rather have Nene and Okafor than Bynum and Varejao. Bynum just missed an entire season and still hasn't been cleared for play. He's 25, but his knees may be 65. Varejao has played 81 games combined over the past three seasons. Tristan Thompson is an improving young big and represents an area where Cleveland has a clear edge -- that infamous 2011 draft. Zeller and Bennett give the Cavs more of an edge down low.

The Wizards have strength, depth, defense, and shooting on the wings with Webster, Porter, Ariza and potentially Rice. Cleveland has....Karasev? Big advantage, Wiz.

It's a pretty even matchup that depends heavily on health. Both squads will have some flexibility to add talent going forward.

I do have my doubts on Mike Brown as a fit there. Their hope is that he can turn horrid defensive team back into a good one. He's going to have to work very hard with that backcourt troika for sure. Then there's also the question of how good the offense will be even if the defense does improve some; Brown has a bad reputation as an offensive coach. I don't think it's going to be easy to integrate all of their new pieces into a cohesive. efficient offense. I am betting the Wiz have a better year.

I would of much rather taken a chance on Bynum with your cap money rather than resigning Webster. This team has no vision/creativity. We drafted Porter. We have Ariza. Webster is more of a luxury

*sigh*

Webster was signed with the MLE, which Cleveland easily outbid. People keep focusing on the $6M guaranteed number with Bynum, but don't forget that if he's healthy he'll actually make $12M. So it's basically a 2 year, $24M contract with a $12M buyout. Wiz (and most other NBA teams) couldn't have beat that, so please stop the mindless anti-Ernie drivel after every other team makes a move.

I think you guys are over-thinking things - something I never have a problem with. Having that 6 mil buyout option is a good thing for Cleveland - not a bad thing - especially since most NBA contracts are fully guaranteed. V and Thompson are very good hard-nosed players to go with Bynum up front. Where they skewed up is picking Bennett. Porter may or may not be a better player than Bennett, but Porter would be a much better fit for them than Bennett, because they have nothing but journeymen at the 3. If they picked Bennett because they think that gives them a better chance to get Lebron, I think they f'd up. Picture Cleve with an in-shape Bynum and Porter instead of Bennett. That team would have a chance to develop into the 2nd best team in the East. And they could still move one of their bigs for a 3, so they have a chance to build a contender.

The only way the Wizards would have had the ability to make a competitive offer to Bynum would have been to deal Okafor or Nene for cap space and get Philly to agree to a S&T for Bynum.

Between Beal's ankles, Nene's foot, and Bynum's knees, I'm sure the Orthopedic Surgery community of the DMV agrees with you, Jay.

Agreed - they will be in a dogfight for the last to spots... and they need to be healthy from the get-go to even be in the fight.

That's the point. They have one of the best 3 guard rotations in the league. If Bynum stays remotely healthy they'll have a fantastic four man rotation that does a little of everything, defense, rebounding, low-post scoring, stretch-4. Add in Lebron and we're talking about a juggernaut.

This will make me hate Cleveland and Lebron even more. It'd be like Duke NYY Dallas and Seattle Seahawks all rolled into one. Three years ago Cleveland had Lebron jersey burning parties and cursed him to death. Now the entire state is going to get on their knees like a bunch of bitches to get him back.

How funny will it be if Lebron pulls a 2010 game 5 in Miami this playoffs (intentionally tanking) so Miami doesn't win the title. By not winning the title he'll be "justified" in going back to Cleveland.

The fragility of Cleveland's lineup gives me some comfort.

Oh, and Kyrie Irving isn't really a PG. Neither is Jarrett Jack. They are both scoring guards that occasionally pass. Will they be able to feed the guys upfront and keep them happy?

Cleveland isn't any more fragile than Washington. Beal missed serious time with like 4 different injuries last year and still hasn't been able to resume basketball activity. He's on the fast track to Larry Hughes like fragility. Do we need to even mention Nene or Booker? Webster's had an injury riddled career as well. Not only that, but Wall missed 1/3 of the season last year. If he's out a week Washington goes into automatic tank-mode.

The only difference between Cleveland and Washington is that Bynum's injuries are scarier than anyone's on Washington.
