President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Re: The Washington Redskins Thread
From D-line coach Tomsula...
About Lanier-
"When I met him in February he was 271 pounds and not very strong," Tomsula, said. "I mean, the other day I saw him at 291 pounds and saw him squatting 600 pounds. So that's what I see with Anthony Lanier. Obviously a big, long, really good athletic guy, so I'm excited about the whole group."
600 lbs is over 2x his weight. I wonder what Allen squats...
And speaking of Allen-
"Coming in, I mean there is a big curve here and I'm not going to throw him to the wolves," Tomsula said. "... You know, everybody wants to see him walk in and sit in that spot and go. I mean, we're not going to do that. We're going to let him learn and understand what we're doing and then go after."
I hope they both see the field this year. I even have hope for Ioannidis, although the article doesn't mention him.

It would be so DC sports if Cousins reverts back to his old self and tanks his value. That's pretty much the only thing missing here.

At times I feel Murphys Law applies to all things involving the Skins. Seems as if it started when Jack Kent Cook passed away and his son lost control of the team. Tent Green went to KC because the team couldn't make him an offer since no one was in clear control. It feels like Cousins will end up going to SF or LA, but I'd be surprised if he's here after this coming season.

I was one of the ones pushing hard for a Cousins trade early on. Especially if it was going to bring back multiple picks. It infuriates me to no end that Allen has his head so far up his you know what that he never realized what everyone else with a pulse already knew... Cousins had no interest in a LTD in DC.

Not only that, but Cousins is a choker and won't win anything of significance in his career. Sorry...that's what he is.

Re: The Washington Redskins Thread
You can't develop a team with a QB who clearly doesn't want to be here - and with all of Cousins' double-speak, he certainly has NOT made it clear he wants to be here. What's the point of having him one more year? Trade him now even if all you can get is a first rounder. I'm tired of both sides in the Cousins debate. Allen's messed up 2 years in a row, and Cousins is good - but not good enough for all this BS.

Re: The Washington Redskins Thread
Prior to training camp starting this Thursday, Gruden spoke of the depth this year leading to some good players being cut.
“... we’re going to cut some very good players,” Gruden said. “Just look at the position battles that we have across the board: corner, safety, outside linebacker, inside linebacker, tight end – I mean my goodness our tight ends are phenomenal right now – offensive line we have great depth, running backs you’re going to see good running backs, receivers we’re eight, nine, 10 deep right now. It’s fun.”

The problem is his biggest suitors are teams that have non incentive to rush to acquire him: Rams and Niners. Sean McVay needs a year to see if Goff is trash or not, the niners have no problem being bad another year and accuring a high pick, and Cousins just has to perform well enough for just one more year to buy himself a ticket to being able to negotiate with other teams (unless the redskins want to pay him 36 million next year).
Long story short the Skins have no leverage for a trade. The primary competitors are motivated for football and personal reasons to stick it to the skins.
The real question is why they don't just offer Cousins a strong market value deal (something a little better than Carr got) so they can at least get away from the negative press and put the pressure on Cousins for any interviews.
Cousins will probably perform a little worse this year. The TD numbers I expect to be around the same with higher interceptions. I think it's worrying his TD numbers were so small given his weapons and how often we threw it, but his market value is what it is.

So no excuses for not winning a playoff game this year?

Apparently, Doctson stole the show in the 1st day of camp, and Pryor's looking real good. Cousins' stats aren't gonna drop. And he'll probably do much better in the red zone with these guys. One thing Jackson and Garcon were not good at was being red zone targets.

Notice he did not mention DL or QB depth. I think an injury at either position has the potential to be used as an excuse.

I also heard that Kendal Fuller reportedly looked like a different player. It'd be a nice change if the skins were to draft an injured player that healed and played to their potential. Malcom Kelly's failed recovery still haunts me.
*I drove by Richmond today on the way to Myrtle Beach, SC. I was so tempted to peek in at training camp but knew I'd never get to the beach if I stopped.

Re: The Washington Redskins Thread
Keith Marshall out for the 2017 season after injuring his knee on the first day in Pads at camp. Missed last year with the elbow injury. And missed time in college too.
Sad for him, Gruden had just spoken about Marshall flashing in camp & how people were sleeping on him. Then that same day, Marshall tears a patella tendon in the same leg he injured in college I think.

I hope so, I'm still having PTSD from those fade patterns to Doctson last season.

Can't wait for the first preseason game on 8/10
I knew a guy who played nose tackle in school and his hands were so fast. He had one favorite move.... 3 slaps to the centers head. Lol he'd have someone try to fight him every practice. Wonder how the OL likes this...

"During one-on-one drills, rookie Jonathan Allen shined the brightest, using a blend of speed and power to beat blocks and overpower offensive linemen. Second-year pro Matt Ioannidis displayed great improvement from last year as he won his matchups with Brandon Scherff three different times Sunday. Ioannidis bull-rushed the third-year Pro Bowl guard into the backfield and into the quarterback twice. Last year, Ioannidis didn’t have the strength to contend with Scherff or many of his other veteran teammates." From Mike Jones, the Washington Post
First unofficial depth chart has Ioannidis listed as a DE behind Hood, McGee, Allen & McCain

Re: The Washington Redskins Thread
The two things that stood out to me the most about Trent Williams's comments on Jonathan Allen were that he stressed repeatedly how fast a learner Allen is, and that he brought up how strong Allen already is. Those two things point to Allen being way ahead of the game for a rookie, and that there is a good chance he's our best DL this year. Interior DLs don't usually win the award, but I think he's a legit candidate for DROY.
I think it's worth noting how unusual it is for rookie defensive players to come in with NFL level strength. Alabama's probably running a pro-level S&C program and Allen is also special. Fully grown and has his man strength by 22.
One of my biggest pre-draft concerns about Allen when he was being projected as a top 3 pick was a lack of physical upside. He's on the small side for an NFL interior defensive lineman and his frame is maxed out. Probably not going to get much faster or stronger like most of the other young prospects and so I don't expect him to be able to grow into the most dominant player at his position. But I'm not sure it really matters if the execution is clean and he's ready to contribute at a high level from day one. Especially not when he's certainly a value pick at 17. Successful defense follows from clean execution on the LoS.
The FO has **** up the QB situation this offseason, to the point where I would probably fire Allen for this mess. But the interior of the defense should be so much better this year because of the new pieces.
