Re: The Washington Nationals Thread
I kinda expect Robles to tear through AAA to start 2018 and reach the majors mid summer like Rafael Devers did in Boston. One of three scenarios happens then:
1. Robles plays up his trade value even higher by moving from lottery ticket prospect to elite young player, he is used in a deadline deal for someone like Chris Archer.
2. Harper remains a 4-5 WAR player instead of his previous 6-8 WAR self, is shopped around because of Robles emergence.
3. Robles emergence boosts Nats to next level everything comes together in 2018 (cubs lose Arrieta/Davis, Dodgers lose Darvish, Bellinger takes a step back) Harper gains incentive to re sign when team finally wins it all.
I think option 3 is most likely. Robles is the real deal. Soto is also going to fly through the minor league ranks. The team is in a good spot with the Harper situation

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

No way they trade Robles or Harper because they want to win the WS. If they lose him, they lose him for a pick and that's it. So Robles is the fallback plan if Harper is gone for 2019 and then Soto comes along probably in 2020. How about let's win a playoff round first. That would be nice and I'd like to get Arrieta, who knows how to win in the postseason. However, I hear he wants a 7-year deal so f-ck that.

Re: The Washington Nationals Thread
you don't want Jake Arrieta, he turned down that massive deal from Chicago already. Guy is projected at about 2.7ish fWAR. He's washed, maybe a year or two of being averageish, nothing more. his awful mechanics were never going to age well.

Re: The Washington Nationals Thread
I wanna see them move Soto for a Realmuto and have Robles in an everyday starting role. Go all in this year. You don't let a MVP candidate walk for a comp pick.
sign Alex Cobb though, not Arrieta.

I'd prefer to just roll with what they have now.
Especially considering the Nats feel Soto will eventually be better than Robles.
Yeah.....

Yeah.....
The Nats are in it to win the WS now and for years into the future. They're the best set-up organization in MLB. Because of that... they can afford to keep Harper without worrying about next year. And as we've seen with the Machado trade negotiations, you're not going to get a ton for a 1 year rental. They're better off keeping their options open. Honestly, I'm doubtful it makes sense for any team to pay him $400 million/10 years - especially with his injury history. And with arguably the 2 best OF prospects in baseball... the Nats are set up perfectly. And they'll be able to replace guys like Murphy when it's time and re-sign Rendon and Turner when the time comes.

By and large I agree with this. Realmuto is tempting though because he brings so many diverse tools to the game (decent backstop, decent arm, unusually fast and athletic for a catcher, good average, better than average pop and WAY BETTER stats away from Marlins Park). Plus he's young, controllable for a few years and a good candidate for an extension.
Soto may end up being really, really good. On the other hand, trading prospects for virtual sure things (present value) is often a good gamble.
The Nats lineup with Realmuto would be scary good -- speed, pop and BA up and down the line.
