But again - wouldn't a JV pick mean the end of McGee? Neither is a PF, so by taking Valanciunas, you are saying you don't think McGee is the C of the future. Or you are picking JV simply to have him as a trade option down the road.

I'm not saying either position is wrong, I'm just pointing out that you can't be pining for Valanciunas AND at the same time saying you like McGee as this team's center for the longterm. Both of them cannot coexist IMO.

guess i was right he did have great hands unlike b. haywood and it took him 3 full years to get teh weight needed to hold his position in the post and now he one of EG greatest decisions as a GM.
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

I think that was one of your better analysis WizD.

I don't think we know what skills either Jonas or Javale will have in the future. If one or both develops a jump shot, you can play them together.

OR if Jonas is sitting at 6 and one of these contenders is pining for him, could EG find a way to work something out? Too bad they are all offering up PGs (Parker, Maynor.... no thanks...)

I would take Jonsa for the sole purpose of being back in the lottery next year and then winning 60 games in 2012-2013:)

Nate, I don't think people hated the McGee or Booker picks on the level of the Pecherov pick. Also, I still remember the Juan Dixon & Jahidi White picks making me nauseous.

If we have a chance to move up and grab Williams (and to a point Kanter)? You do it, no questions asked. It's foolish not to.

Another episode of an NBA team falling in love with the "next Nowitzki". The kid can't shoot, he's stick thin...........he's 30% better than a lot of skinny eastern euro stiffs littered across all the benches across the EU. Best case scenario is Jonas Jerebko in 2 years. That's fine, but not worth passing on trading up.

Also if he's our replacement for Blatche........how will we ever secure a rebound vs a real team? Our bigs have the strength of high school seniors. Also, neither of them have an outside shot. So we're now going to rely on guys who can't bang in the paint getting to the bucket for their points? Huh?

Here's our amazing haul since 1997. Looking at this, I suspect we probably do get Vesely (sigh).

Courtney Lee will be freaking stud. From a BPA he's a good pick. Rebounding guard.

Chalmers would have been a no brainer. Winner who defends at PG.

Hickson will have success at the next level.

I'm not down with Arthur, but he'd have been way better than McGee.

RYAN ANDERSON would have been way, way better; and I wasn't a fan of him being the pick.

Hendrix is the player they should have picked.

Trading the pick (and I'm hoping they do trade McGee!) would have been a better option.

AT THIS POINT I'm hoping they drafted McGee for a team like SanAntonio.

Wow...pretty interesting stuff here from CCJ, who's usually right on most stuff when it comes to the draft. Weird how CCJ defends McGee now, but dumped on him when he was drafted, and Ruzious defended McGee then, but dumps on him now. LOL (btw not attacking either poster, just pointing an interesting development).

But TBH, McGee was a HUGE project when he was drafted. I think we owe Javale some credit for being worth the time and energy...he's LIGHTYEARS better than when he was drafted.

Who cares about 1997? That was different ownership and management. The only thing that's remotely relevant is the EG era which looks like this:

John Wall
Kevin Seraphin
Trevor Booker
JaVale McGee
Nick Young
Dominic McGuire
Oleksiy Pecherov
Vladimir Veremeenko
Andray Blatche

Most of those picks (with the notable exception of Pecherov) turned out to be the best available player in that general pick range. Nobody in the next 5 or 6 picks was better than Blatche, McGuire, Young, McGee, Booker or Wall respectively.

Anyone have any idea what happened to the Grizzlies pick we are owed for Juan Carlos Navarro? The specifics of the trade with the Griz were the following:

The Wizards receive a top-19 protected first round pick in 2008, a top-16 protected pick in 2009, a top-14 (lottery) protected pick from 2010-2012, a top-12 protected pick in 2013 or a second-round pick and cash considerations if they have not received a pick by 2013.

But the Grizz were some how allowed to trade this years pick to the TWolves:

T'Wolves receive the Grizzlies' 2011 first-round pick, via the Jazz (Ronnie Brewer trade) (top 14 protected in 2011, top 12 protected in 2012, top 10 protected in 2013, top 9 protected in 2014 and 2015, if pick is not conveyed to the T'Wolves by 2015, the T'Wolves will instead receive cash considerations from the Grizzlies) (Al Jefferson trade 07-13-10)

Does this mean we will get the pick next year or did something else happen to this deal?

It was given back to them when we traded for Javaris Crittenton.

It was returned for Javaris Crittenton, a fine idea at the time that only looks better with the benefit of hindsight.

I agree that is what most of us are expecting and/or hoping for.

Other outcomes are possible though.

Me neither. From what I heard, mgmt was reasonably satisfied with KS's
progress last year. Unloading him after just one year would be premature.

I hated the Crittenton trade at the time it was made, by the way. Most here liked it.

I remember a lot of people hating the acquisition of James, some referring to him as the worst player in the league. Others didn't like giving up a draft pick for essentially a stopgap move with perhaps a small glimmer of upside (I think some people said Crittendon was a good defender).

I thought it made sense. Unfortunately, when they told him he needed to develop his shooting skills, he uh... misinterpreted.

I have an extra VIP pass to the draft party tonight at the Phone Booth.

Am willing to donate it to the 'right' fellow Wiz Board RealGMer.

who's interested?

That was EG's gangsta trade. He was looking for more street cred.
