If you say something one season and it is contradicted the next, then you are guilty of forgetting.
tontoz, you have me there.
Personally, I think you're a time bust and a hater at that. Not worth discussing anything with, ever again.

At the end of last season you were saying that you though Wall would be a superstar. Just yesterday you said you thought he would be a bust until 3 weeks ago. At least you got your bases covered. No matter how Wall turns out you can say you were right.

From now on, anyone on realgm that has the same agenda as tontoz, I suggest you put me on ignore.

Wow... all star weekend is so lame... If wall wasnt involved, I'd have absolutely no interest in this.
I hope wall tries and goes fast... It looks really bad that these guys are trying to act cool and nonchalant when they are representing these kids for a scholarship...

Definitely. People who value their time can probably themselves 6+ hours by skipping the whole thing and just watching the worthwhile 10 or so worthwhile minutes of highlights on YouTube on Monday.

I am skipping it, but what's Wall doing today?
When I was coaching rec league, our team somehow scored an appearance at a Nike sponsored event at the All-Star weekend, an ill-conceived continual running of half court offense while a miked Ray Allen narrated, even though he barely paid attention to what they were doing, and they really had no idea what they were doing, since no one told us (we thought they would be playing a game). I guess it was OK, they all met Ray Allen, Michael Finley (a really nice guy), a few others, and were the first in town with some ridiculous new Nike shoe as a reward, but for about 15 minutes of court time, we all stood around for like five-six hours. That thing just drags on and on.

CCJ, I'm very interested in talking about the idea of basketball. I'm not too focused on the games, and I barely notice the players at all.
Can't always reconcile an internal sense of consistency with an external appearance of inconsistency. Both are subjective views, and both can be correct. You and Tontoz should just move on to the next subject. Or, as my bus driver used to say, "Don't sweat the petty stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff."

Your bus driver was cool, monte.
That driver could have given a sex ed talk that would have been practical and to the point: "If you don't want to go to the free clinic, you better put a hat on jimmy before you get in it."
(I have moved on.)

Re: Discussing Other NBA Games 2.0
That dunk contest was absolutely pathetic. It's all about gimmicks and they suck.
There was so much wrong here, it's almost impossible to list.
Almost....
1. No judges (fan vote)
2. Terrible, no-name players
3. The winner (Jeremy Whatshisname) had probably the worst dunk in contest history
4. The winner (Jeremy Whosywhatsit) won with 29% of the vote
5. The gimmicks sucked more than usual -- glow in the dark dunk?!
6. The copy-cats couldn't even cheat right -- Paul George actually used up all of his damn stickers with about 5 or 6 failed sticker-on-the-backboard missed dunks
7. STOP JUMPING OVER PEOPLE. IT'S NOT INTERESTING AFTER THE FIRST 50 TIMES
8. Stopping the clock for contestants who are running out of time defeats the purpose of a time limit
9. Kenny Smith was the worst MC possibly ever -- nothing insightful or even entertaining added, just being loud and obvious
10. P-Diddy needs to go away and stay there
11. Of all the dunks to try and repeat, maybe don't do the Ceballos infamous blind-folded slam -- no one thinks he did it and no one thinks Budinger did either
I know it's popular to say because once said, it's usually followed the next season with a great performance, but if the dunk contest isn't dead, then it sure is playing a damn good possum.

That post that i dug up (trust me there are others where he commented about wall's improved play last season) wasn't actually the point. The point is CCJ was talking out of his ass when he said that up until 3 weeks ago a lot of people were calling Wall a bust. When i asked him who was saying that he posted a bunch of links as evidence. Problem was they were bogus.
One of them was a thread that was started before Wall was even drafted. Another was a sarcastic thread, "john wall a bust?". Another was a poll taken i Jan of last season when Wall was playing horribly after coming back from injury. Not only that the poll had hardly any participation.
Yet there was CCJ continuing to argue even after he admitted that he never even read his own links. That is why i decided to clown him. It seems to me like CCJ WANTS Wall to be a disappointment so that he can run around saying "I told you so" ad infinitum.
It is funny how CCJ can remember the predictions he made about obscure college players but can't remember what he was saying about the franchise player of his favorite team.

Wow. Wade is an ass.
Gotta give Kobe some credit. He is the anti-flopper. Gets his nose broken and tries to pretend like it is no biggie.

Re: Discussing Other NBA Games 2.0
Not much to add there millertime. I pretty much turned it off after Evans missed what, 3 or 4 consective dunks?
The gimmicks have to go, this timed format has to go and most importantly let the fans determine the participants if players like Lebron don't want to participate.
Chase Buddinger, are you **** kidding me?
Just the lineup alone made me not even want to tune in.

Kobe got a concussion and a broken nose... and he might not even miss a game. This is a guy who has 4 times played all 82 games, every year plays well into the playoffs, plays for his country in the offseason, plays in every all star game, still glides on the court like a top athlete 10 years younger. Maybe he's made a deal with the devil, but this guy is going to set a bunch of career records by the time he's done (He's already got some.) - and he deserves all the accolades he gets as a player.
And I am so tired of Lebron and Wade pretending they got hit in the eye. Seriously, the NBA should institute a rule that whenever a player does that, they should be given a technical foul.

Re: Discussing Other NBA Games 2.0
This is the first time since 1980 that I didn't watch the actual All-Star game. The ONLY reason I watched the Saturday night stuff was because my son wanted to watch. The ONLY-ONLY reasons we watched the dunk contest was because a) we'd already seen the Bourne movie that was on another channel; and b) my son wanted to see just how bad it was going to be.
Here's the real problem with All-Star weekend -- the players don't give a **** about it. Magic LOVED All-Star weekend. Couldn't wait to play in the game. He wanted to win. He wanted to put on a show for the fans. He wanted to have some bragging rights over the other top players. Isiah was the same way. And so were so many other players back in the day. It meant something.
Now, it's a nuisance. Playing in the game, doing a few dunks -- that disrupts precious rest.
And so, we get guys jogging through the skills challenge slalom course. I thought it was nice to have the players competing for scholarship money for kids. But I kept wondering how those kids felt when they saw the players going half speed through the course.
We get absolute nobodies in the dunk contest. When the ABA held the first pro-level dunk contest, they did it at halftime of their All-Star game. The participants were guys PLAYING in the game. The actual stars. Somehow they were able to summon the energy to play a game, throw down a few dunks, and then play some more. Yet somehow, today's stars are too delicate and fragile to do three dunks on Saturday night and then play shortened minutes in an exhibition game the following day. Despite the fact that all of them are supremely conditioned and flying in charter jets.
I'm all about TEAM most of the time. But in these exhibitions, I don't want to see Jeremy Evans -- who I had never heard of before they introduced him. I don't want to see Paul George or Chase Budinger or Derrick Williams. Let's see Lebron, Blake Griffin and Dwight Howard. Sure, throw in Javale or even Paul George as the red shirt Star Trek guys. But you gotta have some stars in the event.
All-Star weekend used to feel like a celebration of the game. And I think the enthusiasm of the stars helped make it that way. Now that the stars view the game as a chore, it's not fun for me.
