Irony of ironies. Not to mention Gortat developed as Howard's backup. But Howard is certainly a more capable player. He is a bit of a dinosaur if you expect his scoring and scoring efficiency to translate into wins. And he's not the great defensive athlete that made him arguably the top interior defender in the NBA in his prime years before the back problems. It'll be interesting to see if he and Wall work well together - both on and off the court.
They really needed to give him a player option for next season? Obviously a team option would have been far more preferable. Who were they negotiating against...? Ernie, do you know how to negotiate?
