Re: Political Roundtable Part XXV
And this makes sense if you think about it... more women are completing there undergraduate studies than men. College educated women tend to be more liberal. Men without a college degree tend to be more conservative.
I think we are moving off of race and to political ideology... I think the chart above would be near zero if you asked a conservative male if it was okay to marry a black liberal.
My two cents.

Ask a conservative white male if they thought a potential black partner was likely a Democrat or a Republican and what do you think their answers would be?
Politics are obviously a part of it but they're still more of an overlay than anything. Embedded in a lot of these politics are crucial issues that matter to people and reflect what they truly think about other people. Anyone arguing that women shouldn't be supported through child care measures with broader measures placing more responsibilities on men and sees that as unjust is very likely going to wind up with the idea that men are inherently better than women at a lot of things (whether they want to admit it or not) because they don't acknowledge the disparity in roles, for example. Anyone who argues that we just need to treat everyone as equals and can ignore the past and that racism isn't really that bad is likely going to see whites as superior (again, whether they admit it or not) because the aggregate outcomes are never in doubt. I see political values as becoming a certain degree of a shield to protect people from admitting what they really think. It's always been that way. It's just becoming more front and center to the discussion right now. "I'm not racist. I just don't want my daughter marrying someone who believes that blacks are discriminated against and something should be done about it." What does that even mean, really?
And the flipside, you can see how those kinds of beliefs would invariably drive anyone who didn't hold them to not want to marry them as they would be quite likely to be put into a situation with a rather significant power imbalance. Republicans have been centering around white males for that very reason.
Bucket! Bucket!

Cohen's opening statement was devastating to Trump and he has coporberating evidence.
Republican questioners are mostly just plain embarrassing, unable to come up with 5 minutes worth of questions. Looking forward to hearing AOC's questions

Mitigation is going to be important with respect to global warming. Not just reducing CO2 emissions but how to handle the inevitable warming.

This is pretty hilarious.
Better yet.

Michael Cohen wrote:Mr. Trump directed me to find a straw bidder to purchase a portrait of him that was being auctioned at an Art Hamptons Event. The objective was to ensure that his portrait, which was going to be auctioned last, would go for the highest price of any portrait that afternoon. The portrait was purchased by the fake bidder for $60,000. Mr. Trump directed the Trump Foundation, which is supposed to be a charitable organization, to repay the fake bidder, despite keeping the art for himself. Please see Exhibit 3B to my testimony.
Better yet.
We would also be remiss not to mention another incident, also via the Post, in which Trump showed up uninvited to a ribbon-cutting for a school opened by the Association to Benefit Children to serve children with AIDS. He was not invited because he hadn't given any money to the cause. Nonetheless, he arrived and stole a seat up front from one of the most generous donors, presenting himself as one of the great benefactors of the charity. When the ceremony was over, he left without a word—or, of course, giving a dollar.

A lot of Republicans making fools of themselves. Cohen had a pretty powerful speech before the first recess warning republicans that they are doing exactly what he did and it will end badly for them just like it ended badly for him.
Then there was this beauty
Republican Congressman: You said you looked in boxes for these records. Why aren't these boxes in law enforcement hands?!?!
Cohen: These were the documents returned to me after the raid.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

You can’t divorce race from the equation as long as the Republican Party still play on white identity politics. If Republican and Independent voters stopped letting fear of non whites drive their voting, you’d get better politicians and policies that are in their interests

Couldn't find any polls that support that statement. The graph above doesn't. Maybe I don't understand the statement.
Interesting that you couldn't find any links on the subject... here is one:

Got it. Since the poll graph was about interracial marriage, I imagined that was what you were asserting.
The article you linked shows the disapproval is higher among Republicans than among Democrats (50% vs 30%). Maybe its tied to which party holds the presidency.

Could very well be... I guess my assertion here is that our prejudice is slowly moving away from race and toward political stances. Or we are moving back toward racial AND political prejudice. I saw the results of interviews from a large company that showed that their employees were more prejudice based upon political stance and language (how well they spoke English).
But I would say my assertion is half baked. And I think it is much more complex than what we are thinking.
