Not sure what this has to do with the Dwight Howard thread, but sure, I think coming off a torn Achilles, he needs to prove himself. Maybe he can join the DC Go-Go to do just that.

Mac is 25. He never really established himself in the league. It would be a longshot for him to be on an NBA roster again -- though it could happen & I hope it does.

For that reason, I was impressed that we picked up his option despite his injury rather than just letting him go. I.e. it was a humane thing to do & made me think well of Ernie/Ted.

They picked his option for the 2017-18 season though IIRC.

We traded him during the 2017-18 season after picking up his option, I believe.

He is an unrestricted free agent right now. He does not show up on Atlanta's cap or as one of their cap holds.

Yup. The original question was when was the last time Ernie gave someone a team option on their contract.

Oh. Sorry. Yes, Mac was a good example. But you typically only have that kind of leverage when dealing with rookies or minimum salary walk-ons trying to make it in the league.

I don't think Mac had a team option. He had a nonguaranteed contract that became guaranteed after he was injured. I dont believe you can cut an injured player to avoid a guarantee. At that point they would have had to pay his full salary whether they cut him or not. AND since they were trying to save money they kept him on the roster so they wouldn't have to sign AND pay another player.

Personally Id take Dwight, Hassan seems to be a bigger personality problem than Howard.

Dwight. I feel like he's got something to prove. Whiteside has talent and athleticism but I feel like he is lacking in the awareness department and doesn't work on his game hard enough.

This is the best team Dwight has been on, and with the best PG.

this video is sad. the only thing i want to see him him do is hold a weight above his head and move it side to side with coordination.
I remember along time ago he had serious damage to his shoulder from liting to much weight? It looks to me that he can't fully extend his arms when rolling the dumb bell. He has so much muscle that he has lost the ability fully extend his arms and perform fine motor movements. I would expect him to use very light weights and perform quick coordinated movements, like twirling a weight in tight small circles above his head arms fully extended. that seems like alot more valuable use of time that this crap with core strength exercises.
High repetition with light weights like 10lbs, whatever the weight is a basketball, that's what you should be using with arms fully extended so you start to develop touch. you have no touch because you don't work out with light weights above your head. 300 reps with a ten pound weight in tight circles.
and No your arms can't not be bend when they are above your head.

Dwight is also a plus defender. He may not be an elite defender like he was back in Orlando, but he's still above average. Spoelstra can't even keep Whiteside on the floor when it matters.

Remember that Dwight had some serious back problems during the middle of his career. My guess is that his trainers have really focused on him working his core as much as possible to protect his back. Most of those exercises involved core work and stability work. Seems reasonable to me.

Gut feeling, Wall and Beal are going to hate Howard by the 3rd game of the season after he continues to post up and call for the ball while wall and Beal are waiting for him to set a screen. They are also going to love getting trapped in pick and rolls while Dwight stands out by the 3pt line waiting to take a jumpshot instead of rolling.

I really hope we get the Dwight that wants to win and be a team player. It might get ugly

He's slimmed down and is still in incredible shape for a big guy that age.
Howard could honestly play another 5+ seasons if he changes his approach to the game.
