I thought it was because he couldnt play

This was a career boost for Oubre.

I'm not going to parrot the condemnation of his game. Last season Kelly was part of the top 5-man unit along with Porter and Gortat.

This season EVERYONE but Beal seems to suck.

Would any one trade John Wall for jabari Parker at this point? Like just in the interest of getting out of that super Max? Saves us what 12 mill next year alone? That's like a low fever starter or two decent bench guys. Or like the entire wnba eastern conference .

Aside from the Wizards FO incompetence this mess demonstrates (they have zero idea who Dillon or MarShon Brooks are), the conversations leading to nothing likely took the place of, or will get in the way of, any conversations about the guys we really do need to move: Wall and/or Beal.

I was holding out hope, for example, that when 12/15 hit, we'd see Wall heading to the Lakers (or anywhere -- &, no, that is not a criticism of John Wall).

In fact, it's even possible that the acquisition of Ariza was aimed at being able to include him in a Wall trade. Off the table now.

This is quite sad.

Yes. I'd trade Wall straight up for Jabari Parker. Parker has a team option next year so effectively he is an expiring contract.

What’s our rotation now?

Wall. Sato
BB. Brown
Otto. Dekker
Ariza. Morris
Bryant. Mahinmi

Wow. No scoring from the second unit.

Beal better be prepared to play 40 a night

We are a little thin on wing shooters. A good trade to balance the roster might be to send either Morris, Green or Dekker for a spot up shooting wing.

Scanning the league for similar-sized expiring contracts, I'm not coming up with much. Morris to Cleveland for Burks almost works, but we'd be taking on an extra $3M in salary. We can include Dekker to balance the salaries, but Dekker can't be traded with another player until February 6th.

Another deal that at least matches salary-wise would be Jeff Green to Portland for Stauskas. I think we're losing out talent-wise in that deal though.

Dekker to Toronto for Delon Wright would be fantastic for us, but I don't see Toronto doing it. Dekker to Portland for Seth Curry works.

This is a really good question. I think it starts with a couple of other questions. And it starts with a psychoanalysis of Brooks.

Is Porter hurt? Can he play 30+ minutes a game right now? And what about Wall's heal and Knee(s)? I think we have to assume Howard isn't coming back (pun) this season?

Assume we will continue to not see Mahimni, Brooks realizes his limitations? Will Brooks realize our only rim protector is Bryant and he needs to play big minutes? Will Brooks realize we are struggling primarily on the defensive side of the ball and should play Brown big minutes?

My take is that Porter is hurting worse than we know. And that goes for Wall as well. So, that doesn't bode well.

I also think that Brooks doesn't get it, and that will lead to big minutes for Green/Morris. Basically the minutes that we want to go to Brown/Sato.

If I had a choice Wall and Porter would be instantly healthy and Brooks would be suddenly woke:

Wall/Beal/Sato (2 on the floor at all times)

Ariza/Porter/Brown (2 on the floor at all times)

Bryant/Morris (with Bryant playing 30 minutes per game)

So we traded Kelley and rivers for ariza? What are the chances we trade ariza to the Lakers to get under the tax?

High.

I think they'll keep Ariza for the next 8 weeks up until the Trade Deadline. If the Wizards have righted the ship with Ariza in the lineup and end up going something like 15-9, then they'll probably just keep him and try to get a 7th or 6th seed and a small chance at a 2nd round berth if Howard gets back healthy.

If the addition of Ariza doesn't change much and we're still floundering alongside Orlando and Miami as the 8th-10th seed, they can flip him to the Lakers for KCP and save $3M in salary. Maybe they get a 2nd round pick in the deal as well.

Not gonna happen right now. Zero chance.

The acquisition of Ariza means they're going "all in" for this year - at least up until the Trade Deadline, at which point they might re-assess. If they're all in, they're not trading a good cheap vet like Green. And we all know how much they overrate Morris' ability.

I think the Wizards have the next 8 weeks to figure it out. The good news is that we might see a fire sale at the Trade Deadline if they don't get their act together. There aren't many "sellers" in the current trade market, so if EG steps in and shops Ariza, Green, Morris, Dekker and Wall around, there might be some demand.
