Are any of you sold on Maye? I only saw him live once this year - vs UVA and he wasn’t great.

I just watched his highlight reel. Great arm, strong runner but all I ever saw was clean pockets and first reads. Though his left handed TD throw was pretty sick.

Thoughts?

I think he reminds me of Big Ben. His main issues are his foot work and his awareness . He gets significantly less goo when the pocket isn't clean or he has to make an advance read but a lot of that can be drilled out of him if the raw talent is there. He's a hearty 230 and 6-4 I wanna see his combine numbers of gets closer to 6-5 and 240 that's even better.

The only thing going against Caleb right now is height. He's 6'1. If he were 2 inches taller, he would be the unquestioned top pick. Maye just fits the prototypical mold that you look for in a QB. The one drawback I have on him is that he's got a little bit of that gunslinger in him, and quite honestly, in reading the scouting report on him, he sounds like a taller Sam Howell lol where he tries to force throws, takes sacks, etc.

Coaching can clean some of that up, but while I would like to take Williams, I'm not giving up the farm to move up 1 spot for him.

Amazing if this happens. To go from Snyder, RR, and the Martins to a possible Peters/Cunningham/Johnson led franchise...just wow.

Peters is the guy. Niner fans are pissed right now lol. Get Ben Johnson and this may be the greatest offseason of the last 30 years.

I wanna see what we do in the draft. I really wanna see us trade back and get us set up for the future and have assets. I am a bit sus on if it will happen because that isn't really how SF works but they are really good in trade and are really smart with asset management.

One thing that really worries me is how they missed the boat on trey lance completely. That worries me. I don't believe in kleb Williams at all. Maye is iffy, Daniels should be a top ten pick.

One interesting thing will be if Jim harbough joins up, does he make a push to draft his boy JJ.

I believe trading back is the correct move. This draft is deep with edge rushers and lineman and D backs.

There are also really interesting skill prospects that are gonna be underrated for several reasons.

I would trade back several times and get as many future assets as I can. I'd trade Allen and terry and start fresh.

That's great and all but who is your starting QB next season?

Depends on how the trade backs go.

But I go full QB competition
We have Sam under a better HC, situation and hopefully a better team and offence. So that is an option.

It depends on how the trade backs go.

I have a few targets.

Daniels if he falls past 10 but in a little bit sus about his age and his ability at the next level.

JJ if we higher harbough at the back of the first or early second.

Cameron Ward somewhere in the 4th or 5th. He has Dak Prescott all over him, he's in that mold.

Joe Milton in the 6th or 7th or undrafted. His numbers and miserables are and were better than every statistics that got will Levi's talked about as a top ten pick and drafted in the second.

So keep Sam and go with one or two of those low draft capital guys and move on. Sign a vet for competition purposes and insurance and move on.

There's pretty much zero chance Howell starts next season. And they aren't going to trade back. They are going to take the best talent at #2, whether it be a QB or Harrison Jr.

I'd break it down like this:

60% chance Maye or Williams starts
39.5 other
.5% Howell starts

Agreed. I think there is a close to 0% chance they don’t grab a QB. I think Williams is a generational talent so I’m hoping he’s the guy but I’m pretty sure Chicago will take him or atleast trade out of that spot to someone who will.

If the new regime thinks Maye could develop into a Super Bowl caliber QB, then don’t over think it. Take him. If they like both Maye and Daniels, try to trade with NE and take who they don’t take.

I don’t think Penix makes it to round 2.

Past those four, I see ever other QB as a round 1 reach. Though I agree with Gamby, at the end of the day, history might show McCarthy or Ward as the best of the bunch.

I do think Harrison is a franchise turning wide out - think Megatron, Fitzgerald, etc - So if the brain trust likes Cam Ward, I wouldn’t be upset with MH as the pick.

Every time I do a simulation I come out with a serious haul. Think QB, OL, 2 stud LBs and an edge or TE. We’re in a really good spot and finally have a great talent evaluation team at the helm. Good times are ahead. Mark my words.

That "someone" trading up for Williams could be us. With our cap space, we could afford to come off a few picks and still build a good roster around a young QB who'll be on a rookie deal for several years. And it might not cost as much as you might think when you consider who's picking immediately after us:

Patriots - Needs a QB, but I don't see them trading up for one after hiring a defensive coach.
Cardinals - Already have a QB
Chargers - Already have a QB
Giants - Could be better at QB, but with other holes I don't think they spend the necessary picks
Titans - See Giants
Falcons - Most likely to trade up for a QB IMO, but could they afford the package for #1

If there's not a lot of competition, maybe we can get away with an offer that's not the 3+ firsts that often get swapped in deals like this. And if the Bears are leaning towards staying the course with Fields, they might be able to trade back twice - extract picks from Washington to move up to #1 for Williams, and then Atlanta could offer a more affordable package to move up to #2 to take Maye. At that point, Chicago has 8+9 and a slew of other picks to build out their roster. They'd even have the ammo to get back into the first for a QB if they really wanted one.
