Ernie is trading the #3 for Kwame Brown, he's a savvy veteran these days

Classic Ernie!
"We acquired a savy veteran for a player who was not in our plans. He is not an especially good shooter, but does the little things and has great experience. At the same time we manage to stay in a good draft position which will bring us a player."
(just a parody.. hopefully !!)
Your Ernie impression needs a lot of work.
"Thank you all for coming.
We're very excited to be able to add Josh Childress. He's someone we've liked for a long time and we think he can help our team a lot going forward. He's very versatile -- he has good size and length and can defend multiple positions. He's a smart player, and we really value that -- he's a team first guy with high character."
Okay, I'm making myself angry...

That's my favorite caption.
Hey, it's either Childress or Tyrus Thomas.

Re: 2012 Draft, Part VI (Draft Week is Here!)
I started this "wisdom of crowds" thread, so let me just knock over these 3 silly comments:
Group Think = everybody in the group thinks the same thing. No, you don't see that here, do you. So what does it mean to deny what you see and say boards like this are filled w/ group think. It means nothing.
Sorry, but there being no consequences if opinions turn out wrong would be more likely to increase the spread of opinions than to constrain it.
Actually, that's exactly what I did say -- everyone tends to fall in line w/ the boss. That's group think; the GM can't do it on his own.
Now of course you are right that none of us here could get "one of those jobs" -- like being owner or GM. And I take it that means that if one of us says Kenneth Faried is going to be a better NBA player than Chris Singleton, he must be wrong. After all, the person saying it would not be hired over Ernie for Ernie's job.
Of course, that's not what you meant by what you said is it? So what does what you said mean? I know. It means nothing.
gesa2 wrote:Not to defend EG in particular, but chat boards suffer from Group Think at least as much as GM's in the NBA I would think.

DCZards wrote:Thank you, gesa. You saved me the trouble. In fact, I'd argue that boards like this one suffer more from group think because, unlike GMs, there's no consequence if our opinions turn out to be wrong.

hands11 wrote:I totally group think with you both on this one.
I would add that when people say a GM they are really taking about a entire team that includes the owner, scouts, coaches, etc. I'm sure any one of us could get any of those jobs easy.

I'm reminded of that quote in someone's sig that compares Ernie to a used-car salesman.
I have a feeling Ernie would be the worst used-car salesman in the world. Perpetually starving and broke like Gil Gunderson from The Simpsons.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Yeah, uh, Ben Gordon isn't good enough from stopping you from picking someone. He's been **** the last two season.
I saw Gordon's game when he hit his first nine threes last season. He's got some basketball left, for sure.

I too think that he's a better player than he's shown the last two yrs, but I don't think he justifies passing over a guy you really want.
CHA is probably targeting T-Rob though, so this is most likely moot.

More and more i feel like Barnes will be the pick. I think i need to start preparing my rationalizations now. I dont think I can do it spontaneously like LyricalRico.

I understand that at the combine, some measurements were not disclosed.

Right. In fact WE included our #46 pick... which is a long shot but could of yielded a player like local products Hollis Thompson, Henry Sims, Kris Joseph, or someone like Scott Machado. Or we could of potentially packaged the 46 with the 32 and moved into the late 1st round!

Perhaps that explains EG's man crushes on Harrison Barnes and Austin Rivers.
It can't be what they did on the court. I don't want to take this too far, Ruz.

If you take out the unreal expectations people had of Barnes going into college, its not really a hard rationalization. The UNC system seems isn't built for a star player. How many times have we seen UNC guys be better pros than college players. Barnes can shoot the rock and has the athleticism to run the floor w/ Wall. He's not great off the dribble but he could be effective in the pump and drive game and also will be a post up mismatch if he gets any minutes at the 2.
Also look at Beal. A lot of people on the board are fully on the Beal bandwagon but couldn't he be Barnes a yr from now if he went back to school. Beal's benefitting from projections on what we think he'll be. Its possible he meets those expectations, but its also possible that if he had went back to school you wouldn't see it there and his stock would be down next season. Its difficult to become premier scoring wing for a big program.

Re: 2012 Draft, Part VI (Draft Week is Here!)
I'm going to say this until the draft. If the WIzards are not picking MKG I want them to move down for 6 & 11. Dion Waiters and Perry Jones are possible and other than getting Anthony Davis nothing would make me happier at the end of the draft.
Add those two players with John Wall and that team has a very bright future.

Rivers' second workout says to me the Wizards are considering a trade.
I think any deal would have to involve Andray Blatche.
I could see Ernie doing something crazy bad like what was mentioned before. Blatche and the #3 for Childress and #10. Then he could draft Austin Rivers.

As far as I can tell, Rivers did NOT have a second workout. He is in NY now, getting ready to appear in the Green Room on Thursday. Rumors are that Rivers has a lottery selection promise.
Note, per Bullets Forever/Youtube video workout, Rivers did not shoot well for the Wizards in his first/only? workout.
I still say the Wizards like Rivers and Barnes.
