It must be debatable since they weren't very good :) However, lots of experts made them the pre-season favorites to win the world series based mostly on the starting pitching.

Hitting was also a big problem, mostly due to injuries. Rendon, Zimmerman, Span and Werth missed so much time, and when they came back they were pretty bad for a while. By the time they (not including Span) got back to their old selves, it was too late.

Yeah, the pitching/defense really under-performed last season -- at least compared to expectations. Interesting that they were third in runs scored and seventh in runs allowed.

The problem with the Nats hitting is that its VERY streaky. They'll score 10 runs one game and score a combined 3 in the next 3 games. The averages look good but overall they aren't a great hitting lineup at all. Way too many streaky hitters who strike out a lot.

The pitching was a huge let down though for sure. Even Scherzer had that two month stretch where he was mediocre at best, but everyone else regressed if not regresed significantly(although Strasburg when he returned from his DL stints was dominant).

Definitely streaky like you said. They were an all or nothing team, striking out way too much. They were the 26th or 28th (depending how you measure) worst team out of 30 for striking out. Michael Turner had the worst strikeout ratio. His replacing Span really reduced the number of Nat base runners. Desmond led the team in total strikeouts. He has a great team-player reputation but I think it's time to go in another direction. Hopefully, Trea Turner is ready to take over. Regarding Michael Taylor, not sure of Nat plans for CF. Maybe give Brian Goodwin a chance?

I just don't understand why people say pro wrestling is homoerotic.

Wait'll you taste the lip smacking, finger licking good Monte Stew. Simmering in its own juices. Good eating.

Get that out of your head.

I'm not sure how I'm going to be rich and/or famous, but I hope it involves me making a beautiful woman (who might just happen to also be very well off as an actor) happy--for life. Just the two of us.

I've seen the rough side of life.

Yet, I will continue to dream.

On Sunday, April 29, 2012, I posted:

Kirk Cousins reminds me of Drew Brees. He looks fiery and serious and sincere. Boogie Gousins has swag. I've always liked his style, even when he loses it. I thought he would be okay and I'm glad to see him having a good NBA career. Nice tie. But about KIRK Cousins ...

Donovan McNabb might be on to something in his views about Shanahan.

Why draft Kirk Cousins unless you want to breed instability and create a QB controversy if RGIII stumbles? I think it would have been best to get a veteran backup and not have two rookies in camp.

It took about three years but guess what:

Kanell: Kirk Cousins Could Become Next Drew Brees

Dec 3, 2015 6:46 PM

Danny Kanell believes Kirk Cousins could become the next Drew Brees.

“I think Kirk Cousins could be the next Drew Brees,” Kanell said Wednesday on ESPN Radio’s “Russillo and Kanell” show. “Tell me why he can’t.”

Brees turned the ball over as much as Cousins during the early part of his career.

Kanell attempted to explain why he thinks Cousins could follow a similar trajectory.

“I’d go in every morning on Kool 105 in Denver with J.J. and the Coach and we would talk about games,” Kanell said of his days as the Broncos’ backup quarterback with a radio gig in 2003. “We had just played the San Diego Chargers and Drew Brees was the starter and he looked awful. And we’re in there laughing about how bad he was, like, ‘Man, can you believe that guy’s a starter? How does this guy get it done? He’s got no future.’ And I was crushing him. I feel really stupid about it now, but, there’s a growth process and I think you’ve seen enough from Kirk Cousins, the ability to win games and those sort of intangibles that coaches talk about. I think he’s got ’em. Every coach that I’ve talked to, and [Michigan State Coach] Mark Dantonio was one of them, who has spent time with him, has talked about his ability to lead others and raise up the play of the guys around him. And when I look at his skill set, I see a very similar skill set to Drew Brees. Drew Brees was not the most athletic guy, he wasn’t the biggest, prototypical quarterback that you would look at, it just took a guy like [Saints Coach] Sean Payton to believe in him and say, ‘All right, you’re going to be our guy. You’re going to be our franchise.’ ”

I thought so about three years ago.

AFM, I'm not sure how seriously to take anything these days. :)

Lord knows I contacted the Wizards about a year about Paul Millsap, well before he was drafted.

OTOH, Lord knows they darn near made me have a heart attack when they DID call up Morris Almond. :o

Another idea I possibly came up and posted about before it happened was Brevin Knight/Jahidi White.

NOTE: Anybody can Google these deals or PM me for any details. I'm just musing with a friend, considering the absurdity of life, having a good time. :D

One other from way back in the day, when I posted on AOL IIRC, was Robert Pack/Don MacLean. (Not quite as convinced on this one but if memory serves me I posted about it and not long after it happened.)

As for handwritten notes; I once contacted Billy Hahn when he was an assistant under Gary Williams. I wrote about Darius Miles, and how I thought he'd be a great Terp. (Turns out he didn't need NCAA ball to get paid! I will spare the side story but I'm happy for him!)

My longest letter and best response was from former Bullets GM John Nash. I really liked LaPhonso Ellis, and also like Gugliotta their draft year. Nash wrote me back a nice, lengthy response. I really wish I saved that. I do have a lot of old memorabilia and that letter was really nice. That was before the Internet, before social media exploded, before draft sites like Draft Express proliferated, and before this era where so many people are so well-informed.

AFM, you keep sending those handwritten notes to Abe, and I will keep dreaming of the day Halle Berry discovers me. :D

I believe she'd like me as a friend. Life is crazy. I may be considered as much, but I'm not without charm. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.

RIP Scott Weiland. I can't say I was a fan, but 48 is too young - even for a "rock star". I liked STP's early music a lot but didn't care much for his singing and lyrics. Still, he was a meaningful part of the beginnings of the grunge sound that helped popularize some great bands.

I really want to go to the Monday Night Football game but I won't get home till like after 2 AM and it's going to suck going into work the next day. Plus we always do TERRIBLY on home nationally televised games, and I'm nervous...

Same Scott? I wasn't familiar and only learned more about Stone Temple Pilots after comparing in sound to Pearl Jam.

Starting a new RealGM crew. Handsome Boy Modeling Crew. This is completely separate from Double Bottom Line Life Crew. If you'd like to join, send me a PM with a head shot so I can judge your aesthetics. Have to be below 40 years old (this rules out most the board).

Nervous as hell about Skins-Boys tonight. I think we're the better team but I fully expect another D.C. letdown on the big stage at home....

Hilarious how people really thought anything had changed, the Slurs still stink, and they'll stink for a whole lot longer if they give Cousins a big deal this offseason.
