Wiz in: Pau Gasol
Wiz out: Dudley, Humphries,
Why for Wiz: Gasol is really good even at 36. With how he's looked, even with a decline he'd be a player better than Nene has ever been for us, and likely healthier too. Playing him at the 4 next to Gortat would create a really intelligent and skilled front court tandem for Wall to play PnP and PnR with. Convince him to opt into his contract in order to play with KD. With his bird rights, you'd then be able to extend him the following year for whatever price. If nothing else, Ernies loyalty in this regard is well known. Wall/Brad/KD/Pau/Gortat is possible under such a scenario.
Sota in: Humphries, Heinrich
Sota out: Kevin Martin
Why for Sota: Adreian Payne can't keep getting away with it. Instant improvement for them via Hump and they want to give more minutes to Bazz/Lavine/young guys. Kirk is filler.
Chicago in: Dudley, Kevin Martin
Chicago Out: Gasol, Heinrich
Why for Chicago: Kirk is done, and staying married to Gasol given all of their young PF options seems very treadmill like. Yes, Gasol is good, but the idea of extending him long term is concerning. Open up minutes for the youth while adding some guys who can still help you try to make a post season run this year without the contract concerns.

Swapping Dudley & Humphries for Gasol would be a cataclysmic win for the Wizards. Gasol is having a terrific season. And it would weaken Chicago.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXX
Most likely it would--and if you're Chicago of course you want to keep Gasol but you have to be realistic. They are going to have the opportunity to have a lot of cap space with Gasol and Rose departing. Keeping Gasol on board for the long term is a hinderance to Portis, Taj, Mirotic---the trade would be an opportunity to let those three PF's duke it out for that starting position. I don't think the book is completely written on Taj yet.

Not sure if serious.
You really think you can get a first round pick out of a 26-year-old journeyman with an expiring contract who has played a total of 180 minutes on a bad basketball team?

Half serious, half joking. I think he is a solid C, but I was wondering how much is his worth. A 2nd?

He has virtually no value. The big issue is that he'll be available this summer as a free agent. Why pay anything now when you can get him for free in 6 months? I suppose a team in dire need of a backup center rental might give up a late 2nd round pick for him, but it would have to be a serious contender who really thinks an upgrade at backup center will be critical. That's not Washington. Maybe someone like the Clippers.

RFA rights are only a difference maker when the salary cap is restricting teams from bidding and you want to exceed the cap to retain. That's not going to apply much next year when about 28 teams will have more than enough money to bid on Plumlee. Yeah, he has RFA rights, but would anybody use them to retain a guy like Plumlee if the competing bid is $10M a year?

I would do Blair for Plumlee straight up. I would maybe a top 55 protected second in like 2020 or something. But I would 100% do a Blair for plumlee swap.

What do you guys think about this.
WIZ TRADE: NENE, Beal, 2017 unprotected, 2019 top 3 protected.
DEN TRADE: Faried, Hickson, Barton.
They get two highly unprotected first rounders, and a potentail star SG to go with their new PG. We fix our front court issues and we don't lose our KD dream either. Plus we not only fix our front court issues, but we find a cheap beal replacement. Is Farid the Stretch 4 we always wanted, no but he makes the team better, faster, and less soft and he can be moved easily if need be.

The problem with Faried is that while he provides solid rebounding and is decent offensively, he's pretty poor defensively and is a terrible foul shooter. You're getting a good player with alot of holes in his game who gets paid a pretty penny.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXX
12 mil a year for a career 19 PER player is going to be literally impossible to do moving forward though--that's the point more than him being any ultimate problem solver--just getting a ton of high quality depth for cheap
if you could have gotten IT from Boston on his ridiculous contract and Faried for his, along with paying Wall the old max of 16/17 mil...it's just going to be hard not to be incredibly deep, which is the only thing you can really strive for when you can't get actual superstar talent to join you

Agree with everything, except the salary part. He's not cheap, but his relative cost is about to drop even while his actual salary rises. He's getting about 16% of the cap this year. He'll be around 13% of the cap next season, and then around 12-13% through 2019.
Sure would've been nice if the Wizards had just drafted him. And Barton.

This is an indescribably bad trade. Beal plus two unprotected 1st rounders for guys who are, at best, average starters in this league?
I like the idea of a Beal for Barton + filler trade. But leave it at that. No picks. No Faried.

Its not really a trade, but cut gooden and sign Christian Woods? Might as well gamble on a healthy body with upside then a calf-less sack of trash.
