They can totally be ignored. Winning over Trump voters is not at all necessary for democrats to win elections.

A real economic message appeals to ALL citizens.
It's not a strategy, though. It's a fact. The democrats do not necessarily need to win over Trump voters to win elections. They need turnout.
It's true that having a strong and clear economic message is a winning strategy, but people have massively overreacted to the 2016 election. If the Dems simply run a non-Hillary candidate, they'll be fine.
The big issue going forward is gerrymandering and voter suppression, not messaging.
