His TS% last year was .628 -- way way above average.

Unlikely as it may seem, Rui has turned himself into a pretty good player -- way to go, Rui!

PIF... Lets walk through this.
Through 4 years and almost 6k minutes Rui had a TS of 55%. Then last year he had a tremendous shooting year and had a TS of 63%. He is now at...you guessed it... 55%. And that is with him shooting 60% on 3's.
His other numbers (Rebounds, Assist, blocks, steals, usage, fouls, FTr, etc.) are all the same.
His drop in turnovers are helpful I guess, but the offensive rebounding and 3pt shooting are clearly unsustainable.

Again, he is still the same guy. Really good shooter and man defender, but his poor passing and team defense highlight his poor IQ/awareness.
But I wish him luck. I always really liked Rui

:) No need to make too much of this exchange, but overall this year Rui is playing very well again. W/o doubt this on a small sample, but that cuts both ways.

Last year may have been the exception that proves the rule -- of course. But... let's hope not.

The below makes more sense in this thread:
Kanyewest wrote:It seems like Deni had a good game according to this article. https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/basketball/news/trail-blazers-deni-avdija-records-double-double-in-victory

(Moved from trade thread)

Deni's still not getting his shot to drop, but he had a strong game on the boards.

Small sample size, but all the key players we have moved off of over the last year (Deni, Gaff, Rui, and Beal) are all looking pedestrian or worse.

Beal looks about the same statistically. Still overpaid but he's shooting 50 % from the field and 41% from 3. He's already missed 2 games but the Suns are 2-0 without him.

Rui looks somewhat solid with some questionable IQ plays, he's playing with a good supporting cast and JJ Reddick appears to be doing a good job. One of the assistants there is Scott Brooks.

I was thinking yesterday that the Trail Blazers roster is pretty much a terrible fit for Deni. The best high volume 3 point shooter on the team is Simons at 31%. Deni could be a good buy low candidate for a contender like Denver/Phoenix if Portland decides to move on.

I never could understand why he was released. His NCAA play at U VA was stellar. He is a rim protector who can score efficiently. He's easily better at this point of his career than Sarr.

Kid's made himself a nice career -- after going undrafted in 2018. Well done!

6 years of development and Mo always competed hard early-on, god I hope Alex develops some fire….

I never thought Mo would stick in the league, fouled too much. Sometimes bigs take longer, need to take that into consideration with Sarr, who has a lot more natural talent than Mo.

Some OG former Wizards stuff:

Who remembers Coach Gar Heard?

(The Phoenix Suns shot heard around the world guy)

Gar Heard hated Juwan Howard.
https://vault.si.com/vault/1999/11/01/12-washington-wizards-lots-of-very-expensive-talent-just-doesnt-add-up-to-a-very-talented-team

Wes Unseld (Abe Pollin) made all the wrong moves from 1996 to 1999. Gar Heard wanted Juwan to play SF initially.

I remember he benched him.
